Chapter 47 - She's Back

Chapter 47

The Werewolf Realm

Clara's POV

It's been months since I left the pack.

Months of hiding.

Months of rebuilding.

Months of trying to erase the name Clara, the Luna everyone hated—the villain who killed a weak omega.

Dad suddenly called me back, saying the pack needed to gather because war was approaching. Apparently some old demon named Roosevelt was awake again and planning to destroy all realms. From what he said, even the Alphas were panicking. Information was being exchanged between councils, packs, and even creatures from other realms.

Yes—other realms.

My father talked about beings I'd never even heard of.

Honestly, the whole thing sounded insane. But one part of me was… excited. Happy, even.

Because I wasn't returning with the same face.

I left for the human world months ago and paid a ridiculous amount of money to completely change my appearance. It was expensive. Painfully expensive. But now that my face was healed, settled, and perfect?

Worth it.

I needed a new identity anyway. I couldn't return as Clara—the disgrace, the murderer, the Luna-wannabe everyone despised.

And as far as I'm concerned?

I still believe I can be Luna. Why not?

Levi won't even recognize me.

I changed my scent, my features, everything.

And did I mention?

My new face is gorgeous.

Gorgeous enough that I almost scared myself the first time I saw the mirror.

As I drove toward the pack, my phone rang. Dad.

I clicked the call.

"Hey, Dad."

"My love, how are you?" he asked gently.

"I'm fine, Dad."

"Have you arrived? This will be our last time communicating until everything settles. Make sure—"

"Yes, Dad, I'm here. I'm literally driving into the pack now." I cut in.

"That's good. I've spoken with Elder Mark—the one who left the council because his daughter ran away after he tried to force her to marry Axel, the Silver Crest heir… who is now dead."

"Yes, Dad, I remember him. How exactly is he going to help me with my identity?"

"He's going to be your new father." Dad replied calmly. "Since you're carrying his daughter's face."

My hand jerked on the steering wheel.

"Wait—WHAT?! I'm carrying WHOSE face? Why? How?"

Dad sighed like I was the insane one.

"That's the only way to keep you safe. We can't introduce you as my daughter if you look like someone else."

"Dad, I understand the danger, but you didn't tell me the humans made my face look like an actual person! What if she comes back?" I yelled, parking the car on the side of the road to avoid crashing from anger.

I was screaming at my phone. At Dad. At the universe.

Dad sighed again.

"Clara, dear, calm down. Listen. You look exactly like his daughter. The old Luna wanted her to marry Levi, but the girl refused—said she wanted to 'marry for love'." He scoffed. "So dramatic. So stupid. But forget that. You must act exactly like her. Her habits, her voice, her personality—everything."

"But Dad—"

"I'm not done, Clara." His tone sharpened. "You are the one who wants to become Luna again—even with a war coming. And I will support you. But you need to control that temper of yours. One slip-up—one omega you hit because you're irritated—and everything collapses."

I groaned loudly.

"Yes, Dad. I understand. And I appreciate your support," I muttered.

"Good. Good. I sent you Elder Mark's address. Be polite. Change your… cough harsh character."

"My character is not harsh—"

"Love you, dear."

Beep.

He hung up.

I stared at my phone, baffled.

He really just—

Whatever.

I chuckled and pulled back onto the road.

---

Forty minutes later, after driving through what felt like the edge of the world, I finally reached Elder Mark's house.

A plain gray house with a black roof. Nothing special. The flower pots outside were dead—withered, neglected. Depressing.

Seriously, does this man not know what water is?

I clicked my tongue.

Everything was going to change now that I was here.

I rang the bell, and a maid—an omega—opened the door. She gasped dramatically.

"Miss Marcy… is this really you? I can't believe—"

Before she finished, a woman ran toward me—probably Marcy's mother.

"My daughter! We've been waiting for you! Your father is inside."

I froze.

Oh the hell no.

I wasn't ready for this level of acting yet.

The omega reached for my luggage.

Instinctively I said, "No, it's fine, I can carry it myself—"

But then I remembered.

I wasn't Clara.

I was Marcy now.

"My lady, that is my job," she said softly and took the luggage anyway.

Good. I was sweating already from pretending.

Marcy's mom—my new mother—ushered me inside.

The moment we stepped in, Marcy's father rushed to me, eyes teary.

The man HUGGED me.

I stood stiff as a tree.

"I'm so sorry, dear," he cried. "I didn't mean to force you away. The pressure must have been too much. Thank the Moon Goddess your uncle found you in the human world. I'm just so grateful you came home."

Wait—

Dad told this man I was his DAUGHTER.

Now things were officially complicated.

I forced a sympathetic smile.

"I'm sorry I made you worried, Dad."

He froze.

"Dad?"

"Yes, Dad," I repeated with a small smile.

He broke into tears again.

"You stopped calling me that after the marriage talk…"

I almost slipped there. I improvised quickly.

"I've decided to let go of all that. It's in the past, right?"

He kept talking about regrets, mistakes, love, blah, blah.

Thankfully, Marcy's mom stepped in.

"Let her rest, dear. She's had a long journey. Go freshen up. I'll prepare your favorite meal."

I nodded.

"Yes, Mom."

Her face lit up with joy.

I walked to my new room—Marcy's room—and collapsed onto the bed.

The mattress was soft. Comfortable. The room smelled like vanilla and lavender. Way too delicate for me.

I stared at the ceiling, breathing deeply.

A new identity.

A new face.

A new life.

And a lot of scheming to do.

A lot of secrets to bury.

Because if I want to become Luna again…

I'll need to play this role perfectly.

And I will. I always do.
