Chapter 4 - Gremmy, Covered in Flags

"Well, you've been a great help, thanks."

"While words of thanks are nice, is there no return gift?"

"What the heck? You can conjure anything, so is a return gift really necessary?"

"It's a matter of sentiment, you know. Wouldn't you feel uncomfortable if you just borrowed and never returned?"

In response to Gremmy's words, Liltotto murmured, "That's true," then thought for a moment before replying.

"Right. When we fight the Shinigami, if I see someone about to kill you, I'll help you chase them down."

"If there's someone who can kill me, I don't think they'd be killed by you two, you know?"

Gremmy was extremely confident in his abilities.

"At that point, I'll just draw some aggro and run. It's not like I'd risk my life for a bag of donuts. Our lives aren't that cheap."

Seeing Liltotto's mischievous smile, Gremmy shook his head, maintaining his usual smile.

"Seriously, this Knight's Order, including His Majesty, is full of selfish people!"

"Those aren't words befitting a villain who was thrown into prison for being too willful. By the way, what do you plan to do after the war ends and you get true freedom?"

"Oh… I really haven't imagined that." Gremmy thought for a moment, then shrugged, pretending to joke.

"Maybe try cooking? If I just mess around, some unexpected flavors might turn out to be interesting."

"Don't make things whose taste can't be imagined from their appearance! After all, if you 'imagine' it's spicy, even strawberry jam will taste like bell pepper sauce!"

To these words, whose seriousness was hard to discern, Liltotto returned words equally hard to tell if they were serious or joking.

"I'll consider it. Next time I make some food, I'll imagine a high-calorie cake that'll make you fat in one bite."

Gremmy said with a chuckle.

"Well, I'll help you taste it then. I'll be looking forward to it, you scummy bastard."

Lily reached into the paper bag, took out a new donut, and replied.

When Kaiser snapped out of his free-spirited, wild thoughts, he noticed that Liltotto had planted another pile of flags on Gremmy. Now, he looked at Gremmy as if he were an old general on a stage, which was genuinely hard to watch, and he couldn't help but cover his face.

"What's wrong?"

Liltotto noticed Kaiser's unusual behavior and asked him.

"I'm wondering, why can Gremmy's true form only be a brain? Why can't he use his ability to create a real body for himself? The method could entirely reference Shaz Domino."

Kaiser, for once, was serious: "If one's life is merely a brain preserved in a jar, that's not normal, is it?"

If possible, he hoped Gremmy could live, even though his Schrift ability meant the dead couldn't resist, so dead people were more in his interest.

This was a method of using his ability that Kaiser had always kept hidden from others, because the dead couldn't resist the living.

Thus, he could share everything from the dead, just as Aaroniero's "Gluttony" was to devour dead Hollows, taking their abilities and spirit particles (reishi) for himself.

Even if the Quincy of the Wandenreich were preemptively subjected to The Antithesis (Schrift 'A') by Yhwach, stripping them of everything, as long as remnants were left and they weren't completely annihilated, Kaiser could still share some benefits from them.

Especially a unique brain organ like Gremmy's; even if it perished, it would still possess excellent performance.

Capable of enduring thousands upon thousands of souls and countless fragments of the Soul King, it was a 'Quincy's brain' that could withstand the chaotic, conscious tornado-like spiritual pressure torrent.

For some conspirators and pranksters, it was the optimal computational device.

However, with Liltotto serving as a bridge for their acquaintance, Kaiser and Gremmy did share a subtle friendship, albeit small. But at this moment, he genuinely didn't want Gremmy to die, which is why he couldn't help but offer advice.

Shaz Domino was a false 'V' created through experiments with Gremmy Thoumeaux's ability, with the ability 'The Viability'.

He could absorb surrounding spirit particles (reishi) to repair his body with extraordinary power.

Through each repair, he exchanged parts imagined by Gremmy with actually existing spirit particles (reishi) to gain a physical form, and was granted a '?' (stigma) by Yhwach as his temporary Schrift.

Shaz Domino's ability was also a superpower created and bestowed by Gremmy through imagination, so such a successful case could be directly replicated on Gremmy himself.

"To completely acquire a whole, physical body that doesn't need imagination to sustain it? There's no need for that. I am the strongest! Just by 'thinking,' I can kill all enemies; there's no need to engage in close combat with a body."

Gremmy first murmured, then felt a burst of amusement, and then loudly refused with extreme arrogance.

"Alright."

Seeing this, Kaiser said no more.

What can I say?

Kaiser could only respect others' destinies, let go of his urge to help, and avoid self-gratification.

To be so arrogant, one could only say he indeed had the capital to be arrogant. It's just that this child had too little experience and underestimated the cheats and intelligence-lowering tactics of the outside world.

Of course, Kaiser wasn't angry at Gremmy's ungraciousness. If in the future Kaiser happened to have the ability and was near Gremmy, he would still lend a hand.

Just ordinary friends, after all, not his biological father, nor a sworn brother in life and death.

As a friend, he merely offered suggestions, not told the other person how to do things or forced them to obey him.

Whether they listened or not was their business; he just needed to have a clear conscience.

Of course, when he had the ability and could help, he wouldn't hesitate to lend a hand to a friend in need.

After such pointless conversation, Kaiser and Liltotto parted ways with Gremmy.

On the way home, Liltotto suddenly asked, "Dead stud, do you have any ill intentions towards Gremmy?"

"Why would you think that?!"

Feeling his innocence slandered and insulted, Kaiser's face darkened, and he clenched his fists.

This was a rare moment for him to show his conscience; how could his sincerity be so defiled!

"Aren't you envious of Gremmy's overpowered ability?"

Liltotto scoffed, squinting at Kaiser, looking exactly like a mischievous little girl at that moment.

"Of course I'm envious, but that doesn't mean I have sexual desires for a brain!"

Kaiser felt his fists clench. He took a deep breath, suppressed the urge to body slam her, and gently pulled Liltotto off his neck.

"It's precisely because Gremmy is just a brain that he can freely create his own physical form. If he created a female form, beautiful and voluptuous, would you dare say you wouldn't have those kinds of thoughts and get a boner?"

Liltotto had a "I've seen through you" look.
