Veyona was immersed in conversation with Ferro over dinner when Kiera stepped into the dining room. She took a seat as a maid brought her plate.
Veyona frowned, her mood instantly souring at Kiera's arrival.
Ferro lifted his head toward his mistress. "Kiera, it's been a while. You're back all of a sudden."
Kiera helped herself to the dishes, her eyes never lifting to meet his. "A lot's been going on out there… just business stuff."
"That brothel of yours? Any untouched girls there? Let me have first pick." he said dryly.
Veyona nearly choked. Her expression didn't change, but something hardened behind her eyes.
She was well aware that her husband harbored such disgusting desires, but even with a grandchild on the way, he hadn't bothered to change.
She sighed inwardly, thinking back on how Ferro had shaped Dante.
Her appetite vanished instantly. She set her cutlery down, dabbed her lips with a napkin, and rose from her seat.
