In the meantime, Lyra was in Oaklyn when the maid Kiera had sent arrived at the hospital.
"Mrs. Kiera wants photos. I just need to go in, take one picture, and get paid," she said to herself, barely lowering her voice.
She didn't notice a few people nearby glanced her way.
A gentle smile touched her face as determination pushed her forward, straight to the Mother and Child Clinic counter, where she asked for Dr. Ashford.
But frustration crept in the moment she was told the doctor was on leave.
"Do you know where she's staying? Could you give me her address?"
The nurse frowned. The girl's boldness caught her off guard. Asking for a doctor's address crossed a line.
From a distance, Jane approached the counter. The nurse quickly took Jane by the hand, pulled her aside, as she rubbed her temple.
"See that girl? She's been asking for Lyra. I've told her several times Lyra isn't here, but she won't leave. Now she's asking for the home address," she whispered.
