For the next two weeks, Lana tried to perfect her energy bars in the lab. She did a video on the lab as well for a commercial but had no thoughts of change based on the limited time she had used it. Logan had provided a small bedroom for her and a set of bunk beds to one side for assistants. That was the only living accommodation provided. The scientist was supposed to use the other dome for those things. There were times when research was time sensitive so the scientist would need to be close at hand which was why the beds were provided.
Lana also purchased a chest to have all her stuff moved with her brother. There was no way she was going to rely on the military to stay out of her stuff, despite the contract. General Duke proved to everyone that day how shiesty he was, in her mind. Dobin would be in charge of transporting her things.
She had Logan design two locks, one for each end, that only she could open. She was keeping the kitchen that she used first, the smaller one. She had Logan expand the bag out so she could bring two outfits, her armored dress and boots, food for Caser in case hunting was out of the question, and a few other essentials. She had no doubt carrying the bag would be easy with the attributes of her two pant outfits which she was going to wear. The jacket and accessories had become an everyday wear, even in uniform as well as the new perch for Caser.
With the bullying out, Lana gave each of her people an additional 10,000 credits to ensure they could take care of themselves over the summer. She also gave Dilly 10,000 because she designed a perch for Caser to lay across on her shoulders that he could grip onto. She tested it out and could still do flips and such but the balance was a little off. She would need to practice it a lot more but she was happy with the results. Dilly didn't need to purchase any more materials. She had some left over from another project but Lana thought she deserved that amount for her ingenuity.
The day before had finally come and Lana was upset that she had yet to learn the secret of her energy bars. She packed up all the lab equipment and delivered it to her teacher, thanking him for allowing her to work so diligently. She then ensured she had everything out of the lab and hit the clean and pack button. She did the same with the luxury kitchen and carried both back to her dorm room and packed. The team ate breakfast in the canteen one last time the next day, then Dobin took his sister's trunk, which thankfully had wheels. She was the first to arrive in Logan's room where she watched them leave through the teleporter through Logan's window. They would go to the Earth station then off to a faction.
Vorden was the next person to arrive with Layla shortly afterward. She was surprised to see Lana there. "just in case you can't consume food pills, I got you," was all Lana needed to say and she smiled.
Vorden stated, "Quinn was asleep last I saw him."
The friends just talked quietly while Logan tinkered until Quinn arrived. Logan hit the button to open his door just as Quinn walked up having seen him on the hidden camera.
Quinn was shocked to see others, having only expected to see Logan. He intentionally failed to mention the trip to the others. Quinn stated he thought they were all going home. Logan informed him they were not; that he chose to tell them because Quinn had refused to. Everyone was vested in this trip for their own reasons and their connection to him.
Vorden informed him Fex and Peter where their friends as well. That they had the right to make their own decisions, whether they should do this or not.
Layla was angry she had been omitted since she was now one of Quinn's turned. She wanted the strength to help him then was not included. Lana agreed she had the right to be angry.
Quinn looked at Lana, waiting for her explanation to be there but none was provided, just an obstinate stare. He then told the others he understood but he was just looking out for them. Quinn then realized it was the same as when they helped Fex take Peter away, when Vorden had felt he had betrayed Quinn. Then he looked at Vorden, "But Vorden you can't copy…"
Vorden stopped him, "You gave me these," and pointed to the swords on his back. "I got this."
Quinn reviewed the plan so he was sure everyone understood the danger in front of them.
Logan stopped him and opened the door again and Cia fell into the room with a thud. Lana let out a very soft growl at her appearance and Vorden put his hand on her shoulder. Logan assured everyone the room was buttoned up like an aircraft, she didn't hear anything.
Cia stated she wasn't trying to eavesdrop, she just wanted to be with Layla and ran to her side.
Layla stated she thought Cia should come and she would take care of Cia. Quinn was shocked because Cia was not a friend in the past to anyone there. It was why he wiped her memory.
Logan then stated having her ability would help Vorden, to which Vorden agreed. Quinn asked for a show of hands of who thought she should come. Everyone raised their hands, even Lana though her nose was wrinkled to show her extreme distaste at the idea.
Logan was getting ready to hand out vampire-scent spray bottles when he realized Cia had no clue what was going on. He gave Layla time to explain it to her. Cia stated she didn't care. She just wanted to be with Layla and jumped into Layla's lap.
Quinn joked that Cia was interested in Vorden before. Vorden replied that it must have been the Pure training. Lana didn't appreciate the joke.
Logan then handed everyone a bottle of spray stating two puffs every 5 hours and not to be late or they could end up dead. They fully understood that specific assignment. He had a spare bottle in a chest he was bringing with him. He then gave everyone a mask to use for communication. He had made Quinn a costume which ended up being deemed the Night Demon and had a bunch that were declined to be used as Quinn's mask. Logan made a special one for Lana once he found out she was coming. Hers was a black cat with tentacles that wrapped around her head. He explained some contingency plans he had come up with in case of separation and a few other things. He was carrying supplies such as food and water pills and the portable teleporter to return to the base once the mission was accomplished.
Logan then opened the teleporter and entered the code after making sure there were no further questions. The portal was green but they all knew it was not a green-portal planet they were going to. These vampire teleporters were different than those used by humans. Theirs used codes to go from point to point where the human teleporters went to one destination only. This meant multiple teleporters were needed so a person could travel to all the places they desired to go. Logan was excited to learn why the difference existed.
They decided the order to go through was Quinn, Logan, Lana, Vorden, Cia, and Layla. There was contention with this order and Vorden and Lana had a silent argument over it. Lana didn't want Cia touching him for obvious reasons but Vorden didn't want her behind him. Layla was a ranged weapon user so it made more sense for her to be in back. She could also see in the dark like Quinn. Vorden also thought Cia was expendable. He never liked her and just wanted to use her ability. To the others it looked like a strange staring contest but eventually Lana relented and let Vorden have his way. To him, this put her between the three boys and it was the safest place for her.
Quinn looked everyone in the eyes and stated, "No one and I mean no one is dying on this trip. We are going to save lives, not sacrifice ours. Understand?" Once he got nods from everyone, they lined up.
They put a hand on the shoulder of the person in front of them and walked through.
