Chapter 2117 - Selfless True Immortal?

True Immortals, whether they are of the type that reaches immortality through the five paths of Heaven, Earth, Human, God, and Ghost, will greatly benefit from their insights into Heaven and Earth and their realm advancement if they can gain the favor of the Will of Heaven and Earth, besides their own cultivation path.

The more favor from the Will of Heaven and Earth they receive, the more convenient their cultivation becomes, and the more smoothly many things proceed for them.

However, the amount of the Will of Heaven and Earth is finite, at least until the merging of the two worlds and the Heaven and Earth Ascension is complete and before a third world is integrated into the new Daming World—this Will is limited for the current True Immortals.

Thus, if new True Immortals emerge, regardless of whether they are strong or weak, they will inevitably share a portion of that Will of Heaven and Earth; this is an inevitability, an essence of True Immortals that no one can stop.

Therefore, in order not to let their share of the Will of Heaven and Earth diminish, aside from suppressing other True Immortals to obtain more of this Will, preventing the advancement of new True Immortals might not be a bad strategy.

For Pei Xuanjing, not only is he a True Immortal on the Dao of Spirit Immortals, but more importantly, he holds a position akin to that of the Emperor of the South Pole Eternal Life, one of the supreme deities. As long as he doesn't lose his authority, he has a baseline of the Will of Heaven and Earth that he doesn't worry will be encroached upon.

...

But it's different for other True Immortals, especially those who do not follow the Dao of Spirit Immortals. The Will of Heaven and Earth they receive is not fixed, even that which pertains to the essence of being a True Immortal is not guaranteed.

After all, the concept of twenty-six True Immortals sharing the average favor of the Will of Heaven and Earth and the concept of two hundred and sixty True Immortals sharing it are fundamentally different.

In such circumstances, it is natural for those who became True Immortals earlier not to wish for more newcomers to ascend to True Immortality and share the benefits that come with it.

"In the past, the supreme strong had a limit to their lifespan, and only the strongest forces among them would cultivate successors to ensure the unbroken lineage of their sect forces," Pei Xuanjing said with a smile on his face. "Even in those circumstances, the top forces would suppress the first-rate forces, not allowing them to easily have supreme strong seeking advancement, and even secretly control the number of their own supreme strong."

"Now, what about the present? True Immortals have become beings of immortality, so why let more people vie for interests?" Pei Xuanjing felt certain people would think this way.

Pei Xuanjing never underestimated human nature, nor did he overestimate it.

What are True Immortals? What is immortality? True Immortals have desires, they are not saints and still possess mortal hearts. It's just not known who will take action, when they will tear off their masks, or whether they will establish a set of hidden rules?

All of this, Pei Xuanjing does not know.

"If in the past, those who failed to become supreme strong remained as mere ants, then in the current World, only True Immortals can be the chess players, with all others being at the whim of others," said Pei Xuanjing, his expression indifferent and devoid of any emotion.

It must be said that after becoming an immortal, Pei Xuanjing's state of mind indeed underwent some changes. If it had been him before, when faced with such a situation and a disposition he disliked, he would have immediately acted and strategized, trying to break and change it.

But now, Pei Xuanjing has become more indifferent. The idea in his heart of opening the way to immortality for all beings, allowing everyone the chance to become immortal, has not changed, but he no longer has the same sense of urgency.

Immortality granted Pei Xuanjing an ample amount of time, and also a touch of indifference. It was unclear if this hint of apathy was a transformation in the nature of life itself or a consequence of the corrosion from the authority of the gods on the Dao of Spirit Immortals.

Pei Xuanjing did not notice any of this, he simply watched the changes of heaven and earth in silence.

At this moment, many a True Immortal had successfully transformed, and although they were yet unable to roam the world in their true forms, they could certainly begin to traverse heaven and earth as avatars, making their voices heard and starting to plunder the Creation Profound Mysteries Between Heaven and Earth.

Boom!

Within the Demon Domain, numerous True Immortals of the Demon Race took action.

Even though the lineage of the Nine-headed Golden Lion was severed by Pei Xuanjing, the power of the Lion Emperor had become unfathomable. An avatar of a golden lion soared into the sky, roaring angrily before dashing towards a convergence of Creation Profound Mystery.

The Tiger King, Fox King, Sky Wolf King, Peacock King, Peng King, Yin Rabbit King, Celestial Ape King, Tuo Dragon King, Rat King, Tree King, and Elephant King, the rest of the eleven True Immortals of the Demon Race, did not hesitate at all. Following the Lion Emperor's action, they each split off avatars, heading towards the human domain to plunder the Creation Profound Mysteries of the human race.

Faced with the actions of the Demon Race's True Immortal avatars, the True Immortal powerhouses of the human race naturally would not show weakness, unwilling to allow the Demon Race to rampage thus. They too took action.

The first to act was naturally the leader of the human Righteous Path, the Xuantian Sect. The original plan of the Xuantian Sect was to channel all its sect's resources to birth two True Immortals. Unfortunately, one of the old fossils finally fell short of lifespan and did not succeed in becoming an Immortal. Only the Master of Xuantian, Daoist Xuantian, achieved ascension. An avatar of this Daoist Xuantian decisively rushed towards the Lion Emperor.

The second to act was a True Immortal from the Sword Sect. A streak of sword light slashed out from the Sword Sect, swept across the vault of the sky, and aimed straight for the avatar of the Lion Emperor.

The Witch God Sect Leader, Ancestor Celestial Master, Worry-free Honored One of Buddhism School, Universal Light Arhat, the True Immortal of Xuan Du Guan, the Taisu Goddess of the Taisu Sect, Blood Fiend Ancestor, the Demonic Ten Thousand Spirits Sect, Profound Yin Sect, and the venerable Master Tianji of the Sky Mechanism Pavilion did not hesitate at this critical moment, without any hesitation, they struck.

It was impossible for the human and Demon Races to coexist, any side with power would decisively and without hesitation eradicate the other. Now that the Demon Race had initiated aggression into the human domain, not a single True Immortal of the human race hesitated, for this was a matter of principle, and those who violated it would find it difficult to bear the wrath of other True Immortals, even if they themselves were Immortals.

Pei Xuanjing would not hesitate in such a situation either, as a Divine Dao Incarnation flew out from Shenxiao Mountain and headed towards the avatar of the Celestial Ape King of the Demon Race.

The Celestial Ape King, purportedly of an ancient divine beast lineage within the Demon Race, possessed strength and Divine Abilities in no way inferior to the Lion Emperor. However, due to the Ape King's temperamental and erratic nature, he was not favored by the other kings of the Demon Race. Ultimately, it was the Lion Emperor who ascended to the throne of the Demon Race.

Nevertheless, with his formidable power, the Celestial Ape King was a figure in the Demon Race who answered to commands but not to summons, and his compliance with the decrees of the Lion Emperor was not guaranteed.

Having witnessed the strength of the Lion Emperor, Pei Xuanjing was especially interested in gauging how formidable this Celestial Ape King truly was.

After all, in Pei Xuanjing's view, should there be a life-and-death Great War between the human race and the Demon Race in the future, the Celestial Ape King would undoubtedly be one of the major concerns for the human race. If there were a chance to eliminate the other's avatar, it would be a favorable opportunity.

The Lion Emperor, ever since his ascent as a sovereign of the Demon Race, had never faced any significant calamities. One could say that this attempt at ascending to True Immortal, which was interrupted by True Monarch Shenxiao Pei Xuanjing with a sword slashing across the skies, disrupting his bloodline regression process, was the greatest catastrophe he encountered in thousands of years. It was precisely because of this that his years of arduous cultivation and scheming were rendered futile, and his transformation into a perfect nine-headed Golden Lion failed.

However, as a Sovereign, the Lion Emperor possessed not only the overbearing arrogance of a Sovereign but also a Sovereign's restraint. Now that he had become a True Immortal, he had enough life span to amass power and plan for the opportune moment to seek vengeance, especially when facing an adversary with unfathomable depths like Pei Xuanjing.

The opponent's sword strike gave him a sensation of death's breath; even though at that moment he was almost successful in ascending to True Immortal and had acquired the characteristics of a True Immortal's immortality and indestructibility, he still felt the presence of death. This forced the Lion Emperor to cease his transformation and choose to block that sword strike.

"True Monarch Shenxiao Pei Xuanjing, this Emperor doesn't care whether you are some old fossil reincarnated or a Fortunate One born of destiny. Since you dare to spoil my plans, then await the day when this Emperor will reclaim everything from you." A chilling murderous intent flashed in the Lion Emperor's eyes, almost as if it could pierce through the void in front of him.

The will of a True Immortal can shake Heaven and Earth, and at this moment, the Lion Emperor's fury, even as an Avatar, still caused the skies to change color, and the air around to turn bitingly cold.

If before, he had held Pei Xuanjing in high regard, considering him a likely Fortunate One heralding the revival of the Ancestral Land in the Great World, now the Lion Emperor no longer saw him that way. The terrifying power and foundation that Pei Xuanjing had displayed were simply not something that could be clarified by a few hundred years of Cultivation. Therefore, he speculated that his opponent might be one who had Fallen from the human race, an old antique who had the dumb luck to step into the cycle of reincarnation successfully and returned to the world with such accomplishments.

...

As for the existence of the cycle of reincarnation, the more powerful beings like the Lion Emperor became, the less they dared to deny it, because their experiences and insights undoubtedly hinted at the existence of the cycle of reincarnation from various aspects.

Especially before the height of the Tang Dynasty, the presence of the Netherworld Book claimed by many Ghost Emperors and Yama Judges of the Underworld during its zenith allowed for communication with the cycle of reincarnation and adjudication of all beings, making it one of the most formidable forces Between Heaven and Earth.

Of course, this was also why the Underworld collapsed in the first place and why the Netherworld Book was shattered—no Supreme Strong wanted a group of people sitting above their heads telling them what to do.

But whether this True Monarch Shenxiao is a Fortunate One or a reincarnated old fossil, the grudge between them is now irreconcilable. He must one day defeat his opponent to extinguish the hatred in his heart and avenge the obstruction of the Dao.

Both being True Immortals with long lives ahead of them, the question now was who would ultimately be the superior, the last victor.

Temporarily suppressing the hatred in his heart, the Lion Emperor knew that this matter could not be rushed. The pressing matter at hand was to plunder more Creation Profound Mystery to supplement his foundation, solidify his base, and ensure he could travel farther and become stronger on the True Immortal Path. Only by strengthening himself could he be assured of a greater chance of vengeance.

Even the Lion Emperor, however, had not anticipated the rapid response of these human True Immortals, nor that Daoist Xuantian of the Xuantian Sect and the Sword Emperor of the Sword Sect would come straight for him.

He had just arrived at a region within the Human Domain rich in Creation Profound Mystery and had yet to make a move when he saw Daoist Xuantian's lance sweep across the sky and the Sword Emperor's long sword tearing through space, with an intense killing intent bearing down on him.

Facing the attacks of two old adversaries, the Lion Emperor was unafraid. Even in the Strongest Realm, he could hold his own against two without losing ground.

Even though his bloodline regression had been halted and he had not reached the perfect state, he was by no means weak. It might as well be time to see how far these two old rivals had advanced in strength since their last ascension.

Roar!

The Lion Emperor's avatar grew against the wind, and in just an instant, it transformed into a thousand-zhang lion body, its golden-yellow color illuminating the sky. A beastly roar sent out ripples of golden waves towards the two old rivals.

Of course, Daoist Xuantian and the Sword Sect Sword Emperor were no pushovers either. Both were well aware of the Lion Emperor's tactics, with each wielding their long spears and swords. Sword qi and spear light filled the sky, slicing through the soundwaves.

All three had ascended to True Immortality not long ago. Even though they had acquired the essence of True Immortals and undergone the transformation, their divine abilities were still those they had deployed when they were in the Strongest Realm. They were quite familiar with their old rivals' divine abilities, so nothing felt unfamiliar or abrupt.

Of course, even if these were divine abilities from the Spirit Realm level Strongest Realm, when cast with the nature of a True Immortal avatar, their power was vastly superior to before. Even just at the beginning of their clash, the resulting fluctuations caused the stars to tremble and the sky to quake.

"Lion Emperor, this emperor is quite keen to witness the Forbidden Eye spoken of in rumors. I wonder if the Lion Emperor would be so kind as to show it," said the Sword Emperor, with a voice clear and loud, his divine sword sharp and unyielding, every strike potentially deadly.

As the strongest of the Sword Sect known as the Sword Emperor, his offensive capabilities were already among the strongest between Heaven and Earth. Now that he had ascended to True Immortality, a single swing of his sword brought fear to Heaven and Earth!

"Indeed, I've heard that under the Forbidden Eye of the Nine-headed Golden Lion, everything is annihilated, and the Myriad Laws cease to exist. It truly piques one's curiosity!" Daoist Xuantian's voice drifted, ethereal and uncertain, as if coming from all directions.

As for the Lion Emperor, he was seething with rage in his heart. If not for the Demon Race's interference, which caused another Supreme Strong of the Xuantian Sect to fail in ascending to True Immortality, the Xuantian Sect would now be a force of the Immortal Path with two True Immortals presiding over it.

But because of the detestable Demon Race, the Xuantian Sect had lost such an opportune moment. How could Daoist Xuantian not be furious? Hence, today he did not mind joining forces with his regular foe, the Sword Emperor, to slay the Lion Emperor's avatar first and claim some recompense.

"You both deserve to die!" Though provoked by the two, the Lion Emperor's anger did not outwardly show; instead, the killing intent he harbored intensified. The vertical eye on the forehead of the thousand-zhang lion seemed to be both open and closed, emitting a terrifying aura.

He could see that the two were trying to infuriate him, seizing the opportunity to slay his avatar and thus harm his true body. Yet wasn't it also his desire to use this chance to slay one of their avatars?

Last time, during his ascension to True Immortality, True Monarch Shenxiao Pei Xuanjing stood in his way, using his own and the Demon Race's numerous powerhouses' reputation to establish the opposition's fame. Now, he had to take action to show the countless demons of the Demon Race that the Demon Race's powerhouses were not to be bullied by just anyone!

Boom!

At that moment, the Lion Emperor's Forbidden Eye finally opened, emitting a terrifying presence.

The Forbidden Eye, a legacy of the legendary nine-headed Golden Lion's divine abilities, was finally about to descend once again between Heaven and Earth.

Last time, during the Lion Emperor's ascension process, although Pei Xuanjing's sword came cutting through the sky and prompted a hasty release of this divine power, the Lion Emperor just recently grasped this innate skill, so he was not able to unleash its full might.

After years of transformation, the Lion Emperor has now fully mastered this inherent divine ability, and even as an avatar, the power he exudes is enough to shake heaven and earth.

The Forbidden Eye, annihilating the Myriad Laws!

At this moment, when the Lion Emperor struck in fury and the Forbidden Eye opened, nine divine lights burst forth into the sky, aiming straight at the Ruins of Niu Dou, making all things between heaven and earth seem to vanish, leaving only this divine light in existence.

This was still the result of Pei Xuanjing interrupting the Lion Emperor's bloodline retrospection. If his bloodline had further advanced, achieving the complete Nine-headed Golden Lion Bloodline, with all nine heads combining into one realm, it would mean the conjunction of nine Forbidden Eyes, which would be even more terrifying.

...

Nevertheless, this fearful divine light pierced through everything as if transcending time and space, annihilating everything, and all divine abilities and skills vanished into nothingness under this divine light.

"The Forbidden Eye, is nothing more than this!"

"Such a Forbidden Eye, although divinely mighty, in this emperor's view is still just this much!"

The next moment, the voices of Daoist Xuantian and the Sword Emperor rang out.

As the voices of the two resonated, sword light and spear radiance also emerged simultaneously, breaking the divine light's annihilative façade, forcefully carving out their own domains within it, and holding their ground against it.

"Lion Emperor, Daoist Xuantian, Sword Emperor, these individuals' strength is not to be underestimated!" Pei Xuanjing, as an avatar, coldly observed the standoff among these three.

He knew that today the Lion Emperor would get no advantage, and the power displayed by Daoist Xuantian and the Sword Emperor was no less than that of the Lion Emperor; the two together would undoubtedly prevent the Lion Emperor's avatar from escaping.

At this moment, Pei Xuanjing was uninterested in their battle. He focused on the area, the Sanbao Jade Ruyi manifesting in his hand. In an instant, a thunder dragon formed from the gathering of Heavenly Thunder, and with a fierce swipe, it howled towards his opponent, the Celestial Ape King.

Zi Qi was rising, misty auras converging, the essence of weather dense in the air, surrounded by lush bamboo forests. In such a place, amidst the constant slaughter and plundering for the Creation Profound Mystery, it was indeed rare in the world to find such a tranquil and peaceful land.

This territory belonged to several Independent Practitioners, with three at the Seventh Level of the Spiritual Realm and two at the eighth. Though not considered the most powerful in the world, their abilities were extraordinary, and as they did not establish their own force, they had not attracted the attention of other powers.

Especially before the ascension of Heaven and Earth, when one monk of the Eightfold Spirit Realm ascended to the Supreme Strong Realm, he acquired a sufficient status. Even harder to believe was that another monk of the Eightfold Spirit Realm, after the ascension of Heaven and Earth, gained the Creation Profound Mystery and the opportunity to ascend to the Strongest Realm.

The original five brothers had now become two Supreme Strong and three monks of the Eightfold Spirit Realm, standing guard. Even as independent practitioners, during this time when no True Immortal had emerged, even many ancient holy lands were no match for them, granting them more Creation Profound Mysteries.

No cultivator doesn't desire to become immortal. After plundering a massive amount of Creation Profound Mysteries, these independent practitioner brothers went into seclusion, hoping that their eldest brother would refine these mysteries as swiftly as possible, not ruling out the potential of achieving True Immortality in the future.

Indeed, if there were no accidents, refining these vast Creation Profound Mysteries would highly likely give rise to a True Immortal, allowing these five brothers to roam freely between heaven and earth.

However, unpredictable are the winds and clouds, and human fortune can change overnight. An innocent man bears the guilt of possessing a precious jade. The moment they seized a large amount of Creation Profound Mysteries, their smooth sailing was doomed to end.

The transformation into a True Immortal was completed, and as numerous True Immortals began walking between heaven and earth, seizing Creation Profound Mysteries through avatars, it spelled disaster for the strong cultivators of the world. Their seized treasures were like a commoner bearing jade, like a child holding gold in a bustling market, becoming targets for many True Immortal avatars.

At this moment, the vast Creation Profound Mysteries seized by these five brothers became their death warrant, drawing the attention of an avatar of the Demon Race's True Immortal, and thus the Celestial Ape King's avatar descended upon them.

"Thousands of years of arduous cultivation, originally thinking there was no hope of ascending to the Strongest Realm in this lifetime, let alone the elusive immortality of a True Immortal. By a twist of fate, ascending to the Strongest Realm, the chance to become immortal seemed within reach, yet it's still too late, there's no time left," lamented the eldest of the five brothers, his eyes filled with unwillingness and rage.

"Who would have thought, after thousands of years of waiting, what awaited us was not the opportunity to reach the peak, but a death curse. Having exhausted immense hardships and strategies, seizing so many Creation Profound Mysteries, we still lacked time in the end. Time, just give me time, and I could have reached the True Immortal Realm, achieving immortality in this world. How unbearable, is this the will of Heaven? I truly cannot accept this!" The second brother, also a Supreme Strong, was equally filled with anger, his expression changing and his face clouded with gloom.

Thinking of the hardships the five brothers endured as independent practitioners, the extent of the sacrifices made for growth was unimaginable. Especially for stealing these Creation Profound Mysteries, how many schemes they had plotted, yet they ultimately fell short of the last step, oh how unwilling.

The other three brothers too were full of unwillingness, with angry expressions. The youngest of them spoke, "Big brother, let's fight with them, it's just an avatar of a True Immortal, it's not the descent of a True Immortal itself, we might still stand a chance."

These five brothers, born of the same mother, with exceptional heart-to-heart coordination, their combined formation technique had dominated the world for a thousand years.

Now that they had two Supreme Strong and three monks of the Eightfold Spirit Realm, joining forces might make it impossible to fight a True Immortal, but it might not be impossible to triumph over an avatar of a True Immortal.

"Nonsense!" scolded the eldest, "The might of a True Immortal is insurmountable. Next, I and the second brother will join forces to buy time while you three take the disciples and flee as quickly as possible, striving to escape with your lives is of the utmost importance."

He knew clearly that True Immortals were invincible. Not to mention their own potential inability to withstand a True Immortal, even if they could, after repelling one, other True Immortals would come, and death would be the only outcome.

So rather than that, it was better to sacrifice himself and the second brother to seek a glimmer of survival for the other three brothers and the disciples.
