Who was Crocodile, sitting opposite Sandy?
Back then, he had challenged Whitebeard — the strongest man in the world. Although he lost, Crocodile always considered himself just one step below that level.
As for Sandy, the guy sitting in front of him with only a 300 million Belly bounty, Crocodile wasn't afraid of him at all.
At that moment, Crocodile was merely curious about the strange transparent film. But before he could react, a sharp pain shot through his stomach!
"Ah—!"
BAM!
Before anyone could react, Crocodile was swept away by Sandy's leg, which was coated with Armament Haki. He crashed through the door of the passage and flew far away.
Sandy hadn't intended to kill Crocodile. The relationships in this world were way too complicated.
Just look at the original story — Crocodile helped Luffy escape from Impel Down.
During the Marineford War, when Luffy was being pursued by Mihawk, Crocodile blocked him once.
When Ace was about to be executed, Crocodile saved him. And when Luffy was chased by Akainu, Crocodile stepped in again!
Letting him go this time might actually pay off in the future. This kind of weird "fate logic," Sandy had to believe even if he didn't want to.
After flying a long distance down the passage, Crocodile finally reacted.
Wasn't he a Logia user? How the hell did he get kicked like that?!
"Cough, cough, cough…" Crocodile spat out blood and glared in the direction of the room where he had just been negotiating with Sandy.
He wasn't scared. He was pissed.
Who was he, Crocodile?
He'd always aimed for the top of the pirate world. To be kicked like a rookie by some guy with a 300 million bounty? If he didn't get payback, he might as well retire!
Crocodile steadied himself and turned back to take revenge.
Meanwhile, inside the room, Sandy used Observation Haki and sensed Crocodile's return.
He acted fast, using his ability to swap everyone out of the Sea Stone cage.
Smoker stepped forward and asked, "What's the deal with your ability? This small cage is made of Sea Stone…"
Sandy rolled his eyes. "You guys hurry to the capital of Alabasta. Crocodile's plan has already started!"
Luffy looked confused. "What about you?"
Sandy replied, "That guy's persistent. Anyway, you guys hurry up and go. I'll stop Crocodile."
Facing a war involving a million people, Luffy didn't hesitate. But Smoker was still unsure.
Sandy shot him a sharp look. "Brother Smoker, wake up! Are the lives of so many people not more important than your dumb theories? Resolve the crisis first! Don't bother Luffy and the others until this is over!"
Smoker growled back, "Don't talk to me like that. I'm older than you, brat. By seniority, you should be calling me 'Brother'!"
"Okay, Brother Smoker, then I'll trouble you," Sandy said with a shit-eating grin that made Smoker want to punch him.
At that moment, Crocodile arrived. Smoker knew he wasn't a match for him, so he left with the Straw Hat Pirates.
Crocodile's face was dark. "Who are you? What's your purpose?"
Sandy smirked. "Are you really a pirate? Pirates should be free, without a fixed home. But look at you, wanting Pluton to rule the world. Hah! That's hilarious."
Crocodile's eyes narrowed. "You seem to know a bit too much."
He prepared to attack.
"Wait," Sandy said quickly. "There's water all around here. Are you sure you want to fight here? How about we go to the desert and have a proper match?"
Crocodile sneered. He was a Sand-Sand Fruit user — and Sandy wanted to fight him on his own turf?
"Since you want to die," Crocodile said, "I'll grant your wish."
Soon, they arrived in the open desert.
Crocodile looked down on him. "Today, I'll bury you here. Consider it your honor."
Sandy shrugged. "If you don't leave Alabasta, I'll knock you out and hand you to the Navy for your bounty. You're worth quite a lot, right?"
Crocodile laughed coldly. "Hahahaha! Brat, who do you think I am? Desert La Spada!"
A massive sand blade formed and slashed toward Sandy.
Sandy twisted his body and yawned, "Oh, so powerful."
Veins bulged on Crocodile's forehead. What the hell was this brat doing?!
Rage boiling, Crocodile extended his right hand and formed a small whirlwind in his palm. "If you've got guts, take this!"
"Space Field."
"Ah—!"
Crocodile felt the sharp pain again. Before he could react, he was kicked away.
Inside the Space Field, Sandy was basically cheating. He could ignore distance by swapping positions and kicking the enemy from point-blank range.
If it were Doflamingo, maybe he could counter it — that guy had a better grasp of similar abilities.
Crocodile got back up, wiping blood from his mouth. "What did you do to me, brat?!"
Sandy rolled his eyes. "Haven't you figured it out yet? You're being crushed by me."
But Crocodile wasn't stupid. His real goal was Pluton. There was no need to waste time fighting this freak. The Straw Hats were already heading for the capital.
Crocodile smirked. "Crushed by you? Hahaha… careful, kid. Bite your tongue with talk that big. Desert Girasole!"
"Shit!"
Sandy immediately jumped back. He knew that name. A whirlpool in the sand? No thanks!
A massive quicksand vortex appeared in the desert. All the surrounding sand rushed toward the center — a terrifying sight.
Sandy stared at the quicksand, completely baffled by the mechanics. But in that split second of distraction…
Crocodile's presence vanished from his Observation Haki range.
Sandy stood there, blushing with frustration.
He'd been played.
"Bah! What kind of Shichibukai runs away like that? Shameless bastard!"
This wasn't Sandy's fault. Crocodile was just too damn shameless.
