Chapter 5 - Martial artist

"Magic?" Claus responded. "That's no magic, it's martial arts."

'Martial arts? What's that? This world is getting interesting, maybe I could find out more later.'

They were both taken to a place called the temple in the Flaming Dragon Clan. But it seemed more like an orphanage to Siyash.

Located at the side of the mountain, a little isolated from the town, the large estate had a large tiled courtyard and a large single building.

The sight of it made Siyash wonder how much it would take to construct something as grand as this back at his homeland Dotham.

When they got in there were other kids sitting around on mats, about ten of them.

They all had different reasons for being here because this was no ordinary orphanage because it had a special requirement for entry.

And that was the approval from the owner Mr Zhang, a bald monk, who put on a robe. He welcomed them both with a calm unreadable expression.

The other children also had robes with a similar design to Mr Zhang, the youngest one looked five, while there were a few teenagers like Siyash.

Claus had emphasized his luck after they were accepted by Mr Zhang, that if he were a year older which would be sixteen, he would be out on the streets.

Thinking about this. Siyash remembered the child with the bread from earlier and wondered why he was accepted into the orphanage but the child wasn't.

Although Claus had mentioned there were certain requirements to be accepted by Mr Zhang, Siyash was left clueless about the details.

Claus assured them about their safety in Mr Zhang's care. But there was a bit of doubt in him especially because of the recent attacks on Siyash with no traces.

During their first night, Mr Zhang assigned a single room to the siblings, but Siyash let Pippin sleep on the bed, although she tried convincing him it was futile.

Through out the night Siyash pondered about the event from that occurred and he realized he needed to understand this world of martial arts.

Getting out of their rooms the next day, they arrived at the temple hall and spotted a familiar face.

"I told you guys you'll be fine and I'll be back to check on you." Claus smiled.

"Since you're already adapting I'll be taking my leave."

"I have a few questions." Siyash blurted, stopping Claus.

Pippin went along with Mr Zhang to get acquainted with the other kids while Siyash and Claus went into Mr Zhang's library, a spacious room filled with good looking books and well polished furniture superior to that in Siyash's new home.

Claus gestured for Siyash to sit opposite him as he relaxed behind a desk in a single armchair.

"So what was it you wanted to ask?"

With his fragmented memories Siyash wanted clarification and from someone he could confide in.

He asked about martial arts, explaining that it was strange for a fighting method, and it looked more like an exercise, and punching someone meters into the air sounded like pure fiction.

"Hmm, I'm starting to see you as an alien," Claus muttered.

'Yes, that's what I am.' Siyash sighed inwardly.

As Claus explained everything to him in terms he could understand, Siyash's interest in this world grew, and that made him realize the difference between this world and his was bigger than he imagined.

Those proficient at martial arts were known as martial artists, like those in his world, proficient at magic were labeled Mages.

However, there were rankings for the distinction.

He found out, not everyone focused on martial arts to the level Claus was. And martial artists belonged to a different community from the government and military, having their own unique rules.

Although they could still associate with others. Claus explained the reason for the division was for more freedom, such as killing, and Empire's often hired martial artists for their services.

"You know the basics about martial artists, now let me explain how they're classified. The world is considered as one piece despite the scattered islands, but it's all divided into three factions.

"The light faction, the dark faction, and the demonic faction."

He illustrated better with a map, and the several factions were not all stacked together, they spread across different regions.

"Now, in these factions, there are families, each with a unique style of martial arts that they pass down to loyal members of the clan."

"And we, the flaming dragon clan, are a part of the dark faction."

Claus also explained that clans, although being in the same faction, didn't mean they were friends, and Clans Operated solely.

Also, the faction a clan belonged to depended on their source of martial arts energy. It didn't mean those in the light faction were good and the others were bad.

This topic got Siyash's interest, especially because of his own powers being a mage, as a researcher, he seemed to have more questions, but Claus seemed to be in a hurry.

"Now I want you to take this as important, As martial artists, we cultivate our powers and perfect our techniques, and there are masters among us, one's so powerful they can destroy a city, with one punch."

Siyash was surprised at what Claus had said in his world, which was comparable to a tenth rank mage.

"Now martial artists are classified into three stages, the beginner stage, where martial artists are ranked from one to six, the middle stage, from seven to nine, and the Lord stage, from ten to twelve."

"If you ever become a martial artist, only then would you understand how frightening these stages are and the large difference between each rank."

"Now that you've understood, if you ever hear someone use the term Lord stage, then you should never upset them, no one will be able to save you."

The tone of Claus's voice changed dramatically when speaking about the last part.

After this, it occurred to Siyash what they meant by he had no family name, he wasn't a martial artist, nor was he related to any clan or empire.

He wondered how much strength he would have had if he transmigrated into the body of a powerful martial artist.

"So what stage are you?" Siyash curiously asked.

Claus smiled with pride as he answered.

"I'm at the initial stage, a rank two martial artist."

Siyash was impressed. If that was the power of a rank two martial artist, what would those at the Lord stage do?

Something else bothered him.

"The one that attacked us earlier, was he a martial artist?"

Claus nodded yes.

"But why would martial artists attack our family with no name twice, could they be hired?"
