Chapter 2 - Prologue - The Crownlands Before the Fire

For generations, the Crownlands had thrived under the rule of King Aric Velthorn, a sovereign both wise and fierce, whose reign spanned forty winters. His was a kingdom of balance—strength tempered by justice, ambition guided by counsel. Under his hand, the sixteen kingdoms of the realm coexisted, each distinct in culture, environment, and resources, yet bound together by the king's authority and the ancient covenant of the throne.

But peace is fragile, and even the greatest of kings cannot escape the shadow of mortality.

King Aric had ruled from Valenor, the heart of the Crownlands. Its grand palace gleamed with polished stone and intricate spires, home to scholars, knights, priests, and emissaries from every kingdom. From here, he governed not by fear alone, but by alliances, trade, and respect. Under his guidance, the sixteen kingdoms flourished.

King Aric's reign had held this intricate balance together, keeping sixteen kingdoms in harmony despite their differences. Trade flourished, alliances were maintained, and peace endured.

But with the king's death, that fragile order shattered. Ambition, fear, and divine whispers would sweep the Crownlands into a war unlike any seen before. Each heir, each kingdom, and each Quark would play a role in shaping the fate of the realm.

The stage was set, the flames of destiny awaited, and the throne of ashes would call to those bold enough to claim it.
