Emily's POV
I found Lily in her room, sitting on her castle bed. She wasn't crying anymore; that was somehow worse than the tears. She just sat there, her little hands folded in her lap, staring at nothing.
"Lily, baby." I climbed onto the bed beside her, pulling her into my arms. "We need to pack your things."
She didn't respond. Didn't move.
"Lily?"
"Is Papa really making us leave?" Her voice was so small, so broken.
My throat closed up. "Yes, baby. We have to go."
"But why?" She finally looked at me, her eyes red and swollen. "What did we do wrong?"
"We didn't do anything wrong." I cupped her face in my hands, trying to keep my voice steady. "Sometimes... sometimes grown-ups make mistakes. Sometimes they believe things that aren't true. And sometimes there's nothing we can do to fix it."
"But I love him." Tears spilled down her cheeks again. "I love Papa. Doesn't he love me too?"
The question shattered me. "Oh, sweetheart. Of course he loves you. He loves you so much."
