Chapter 6 - Anonymous Gift

Sophia woke up the next morning feeling extremely weak, as if she had gone on a marathon race. She could feel pain in some parts of her body, and she wondered why she was feeling so tired.

She dropped herself out of bed and got into the bathroom to shower. After she was done, she dressed and was about to leave for her office when she saw a note on her table in the living room.

The notes were held in a shining silver necklace, and she wondered what it was for. Slowly, she picked up the necklace, raising it in the air as she tried to study its elements.

The silver was shining and beautiful, and she could not help but admire it. She picked up the notes too and opened them to see the writing that she did not recognize.

It was written in a falling language, and she wondered what it was.

She took out her phone from her bag and took a picture of the short notes that were written on that paper, scanning her phone to get the meaning. After about a minute, the interpretation of that text came onto her phone, and it sounded rather strange to her.

"That necklace is going to protect you from people who want to hurt you. It is not a guarantee, but at least for now, it will keep you safe. Do not take it off", the notes read.

After reading this, Helena felt fear run through her veins as she wondered what it was and who must have left it there for her.

The events from the previous night began to cloud her memories, and the fear kept increasing in her. She did not know who it was that left the necklace for her, but then the person had stated it was going to protect her, and she did not have an option but to try it out.

It was still mysterious to her, in just one day of discovering something so strange, she had already had so many strange experiences that were making her shiver, just like the clients who came to her for therapy.

Finding Emma was still the thing that bothered her, and she wished there was a way she could get a lead on her.

Slowly she dropped her bag on the table and wore the necklace around her neck. It felt so much like a normal silver necklace that would shine brightly in the rays of the sun, and just as she stepped outside her door and locked it behind her, the necklace was shining like she expected.

" This is too beautiful to be so mysterious," she said as she approached her car that was parked in the garage.

She got into her car and drove down to her office where she already had some clients waiting for her.

She was a very popular psychologist, and many people had scheduled sessions with her every week. She has won several awards since she became the youngest psychologist who was referred to as an expert in her field.

Her standard was high, and she always had results for every therapy session that she gave. Yet this last one with Emma seemed too strange for her to ignore. She felt as if it had gone so much out of normal, and there was only one way for her to solve that issue, and that was to join forces with Emma to fight whatever it was that was tormenting her.

When she reached her office that morning, she placed a call to Emma, but there was no response. She called over five times more, but Emma did not take the call. She sent a lot of text messages, yet none of them were responded to.

Her fear that Emma might be hurt increased, and she wondered what she could do in such a situation. It was at that moment that she called Detective James and asked him if he had gotten a lead on the clients that she asked him to look after.

"Believe me, Sophia, after what happened last night, this case has become more complicated than I expected. I left my house quite early this morning for the police station and realized that this is not the first time such cases have been reported," Detective James said from the other end of the phone, and Sophia was surprised when she heard that.

She was silent for a while before she asked James in a calm voice. " How is it possible that a series of cases related to that has been reported, and you know nothing about them? Is it that none of them have been brought to your decks to investigate?" she asked him with curiosity obvious in her voice.

James was a renowned detective and considered one of the best in the city. He had done many investigations, and he was very good at his job. Hence, Sophia could not believe that such a case had been reported and James knew nothing about it until now.

" Believe me, Sophia, I am as surprised as you are right now because all of these cases seem to be stopped, and I wonder why the police would not want to look into cases like this and would not send them over to him instead and" and James spoke as he held his hand on the waist standing outside the police station that morning was speaking to Sophia on the phone.

From his expression, one could tell that he was quite worried about the discovery and the way he spoke. He was ready to take up the case whether the police officer reported them directly or not.

Sophia, who did not want to put him in a difficult situation against his will, finally found her voice and asked him in a rather reluctant manner.

" What are we going to do now, James? I mean, this is quite bigger than I expected, and my clients are in danger," she announced. Sending tension in the air.
