Chapter 4 - NOTE: EXPLANATION

(This is just a small explanation to help you understand the world better. I recommend reading it, but you may skip it if you feel it's unnecessary.)

Following the Downfall, human survival ceased being a matter of politics or power but of systems.

When the Aegis Console went live worldwide, it did more than call forth monsters and dungeons it redefined all law, all values, and all notions of wealth.

The Currency: Soulmarks

Soulmarks substituted all types of currency humanity had ever known. They are pieces of digital energy harvested from defeated monsters, translated directly into usable form by the Aegis Network.

There are five recognized levels of Soulmarks, each dictating social status, authority, and sway:

Bronze Soulmark – Low-level unit gained from low-level monsters or regular quests.

Silver Soulmark – Acquired through mid-level dungeon raids or trading system shards.

Gold Soulmark – Exclusive to top-hunters and guild members.

Platinum Soulmark – An anomaly of the system or Regime-licensed expeditions only.

Obsidian Soulmark – The forbidden category. Rumor has it that its appearance is tied directly to Aegis itself.

Each Soulmark can be solidified or held in a player's interface, transferred account to account, or used to buy weapons, potions, and lodging in tolerated zones.

The Regime Government

Since the Downfall, countries fell apart and out of their ruins, The Regime emerged.

It's not rule of the people, but rule by oppression through domination of the Aegis Console. They oversee hunter registry, dungeon access, and Soulmark trade. All hunters need to have an official ID, synchronized with their system.

Unregistered hunters "Rogues" are treated as outlaws. They are pursued, killed, or enslaved under Regime control.

The Regime does say they "protect order," but the entire world is aware of their actual purpose monopolize the Aegis Network and force the system into submission.

And yet… within this broken world, there is one man who holds a system older than the Regime itself

the original prototype that they were unable to destroy.

Codename: Zero.
