Chapter 9 - Is the pain unbearable?

I pushed him away instantly, angry to have him sneak into my bed like a thief, but he pulled me in tightly, forcing me into his embrace and his brow furrowed as he opened his eyes.

"Stay put if you don't want to be punished." he grumbled, his breath warm against my skin as his nose brushed mine.

My chest tightened, every nerve in me screaming to move away but his threat made my body freeze. I knew he wasn't joking.

I obeyed quietly and parted my lips slightly, forced to gaze at him. His dimmed eyes stared back, possessively and I felt like an ant helplessly sucked into them with no choice to resist.

His plain v-neck shirt revealed his exquisite collarbone and instead of the fierce, cold aura he had the first night, he was warm.

There is no way anyone could refute him in this way.

"I'm uncomfortable." I said after a few seconds.

He pulled away slightly, barely giving me space to move and I adjusted. He placed his hand gently on my back then lowered his head and closed his eyes again.

I continued to stare at him, bewildered as he slept and then a knock came on the door.

"Xavier," Clara's voice came from the door, sounding urgent.

I froze instantly, expecting Xavier to stand up and go to her but he remained quiet, seemingly unbothered.

Perplexed, I decided to get up first but heard a soft whisper in my ear, pulling me back.

"Don't move."

"Miss Clara, what are you doing here?" i heard Stephen's voice behind the door as well.

"I thought Xavier was back." she responded.

"The Alpha has given instructions that no one is allowed near his room or this one, please leave."

Fading footsteps followed and I exhaled. Seeing Xavier so unbothered, I decide to get some more sleep and closed my eyes.

When I woke up again, it was already dinner time and Xavier was also gone from my side. I got out of bed, relieved to find the door opened.

I wasn't sure if everyone else had eaten because it was dark already and the lights were off but I felt very hungry and couldn't go to sleep on an empty stomach.

Even if it's just some snacks, I might find them in the fridge I saw earlier while at the dinning.

I made my way down successfully and grabbed a cup of ice cream and chocolate, deciding to take them to my room quietly but heard a voice that seemed to be in pain.

I turned towards the sound of the voice and found it outside the house. I hesitated a bit but heard another shout of agony and hurriedly opened the door to see who it was but came face to face with a Lycan.

Its eyes were brown, and it growled at me.

"What…"

I couldn't get the words out of my mouth before it launched itself at me and I made a run for it, turning to the other side of the house.

The Lycan chased after me, closing up the gap between us easily and caught up with me just before I could reach the other door in front of me and landed it claws on me.

the claws cut into my legs, causing me to fall, and then it came all over me, biting my arms and ready to rip out my heart.

I fought back, but was already overpowered by it and couldn't shift but the Lycan suddenly stopped, and glare at me before walking away into the dark.

I fell flatly to the ground, with blood oozing out from my body and lie there in the dark, my breath slipping away.

"Raina," I heard Xavier's rushed voice called, and I tried to respond but was too weak to.

He ran up to me, with Stephen and Clara behind him.

"Raina," he said, lifting me up from the floor, scooping me up in his arms.

"Did she really try to run away?" I heard Clara chipped in, and tried to explain but I was in much pain to say anything.

"Ask the doctor to come over here." Xavier yelled, as he ran inside the house, up to my room.

"What happened?" he asked, trying to stop with bleeding with a towel and I let out tears instead of words.

My vision blurred from pain.

"Xavier, maybe she got tired of being locked up and tried to sneak out?" Clara's persistence voice came again and I shook my head weakly.

"It's my fault for asking you to let her out of her room this afternoon, or she wouldn't have thought of doing something like this." she continued, like the victim.

"No…" I mumbled but it seemed no one was listening to me.

"It's not your fault." Xavier replied.

Stephen also entered the room, but he was alone without a doctor, and Xavier furrowed deeply.

"Where is he?"

"Ah, I forgot to inform you earlier but I let him leave because I was feeling better." Clara answered, and I hear Xavier grunt.

"I really sorry Xavier, I didn't expect something like this to happen."

"It's fine" he said, and asked her to leave then instruct Stephen to get a bowl and the first aid box.

They both stepped out of the room, and Stephen returned soon after with the box and the bowl of water.

"You can leave,"

"But Alpha…"

"Now!"

Xavier turned to me, placing the towel in the water and his jaw clenched as he pressed the towel against my wound, his eyes dark and I couldn't make out whether it's from fear or fury.

I yelped in pain as the cotton touched me, trying not to scream and endure the pain instead.

He carefully dressed my leg and arms, then cleaned the bruise on my face.

I opened my eyes slowly, my body still trembling and Xavier's eyes fixed on my every move. It was like he was watching my heart beat.

Tears fell from my eyes, and he immediately reached out to pat my hair.

"Is the pain unbearable?" he asked and I scoffed in between my sobs, finding his question ridiculous.

How can the pain be bearable when my arm was nearly torn apart from my body.

I sniffled, my sobbing becoming louder, and I heard him gave an annoyed sigh.

"Why did you try sneaking out then?" he muttered, seemingly upset.

"I wasn't…" I tried to defend myself but his fingers brushed along my jaw and I paused.

He lifted my chin quietly, his gaze focusing on me and before I could grasp what's happening, he pressed his lips against mine, forcing his way into my mouth.
