Chapter 1 - Shadow of Yesterday – Chapter 1: The First Shadows

The city was drowned in utter darkness, rain pouring relentlessly, and winds howling through the abandoned old buildings. Every faint light on the wet asphalt seemed to try to reveal the city's hidden secrets, while simultaneously exposing every terrifying shadow lurking in the corners.

Ha-Rin sat at her small apartment desk, surrounded by old books and scattered notes. Her dark eyes glimmered in the dim light, every small reflection calling to her. She saw the world differently from others: ghosts, moving shadows, and cryptic messages from the past were part of her daily life, despite the deep loneliness she felt.

Suddenly, the desk shook violently, and a shadow passed across the wall as if moving with its own will. A chill ran down her spine, yet she did not step back. Her eyes scanned every corner of the room.

– Who's there? – she whispered, her voice soft but firm.

From the darkness emerged Ji-Hoon, a police officer and a longtime friend of her deceased father. His steps were steady, his voice deep and commanding:

– Ha-Rin… being here alone isn't safe.

– I know… but they're back, – she replied cautiously, eyes fixed on his movements.

He took a step closer, his sharp gaze assessing her:

– Ever since your father passed… all this started, didn't it?

– Yes… no one believed me… except sometimes my father, but he left, leaving me alone in this world.

Ji-Hoon smiled faintly for the first time in years, a soft yet genuine smile:

– If I have to protect you, I'll be here… not just as an officer, but as a partner.

Ha-Rin felt a strange warmth in her chest, but it did not weaken her caution:

– A partnership… is that it? Fine, we'll work together. But remember, I don't accept anyone underestimating my courage.

Ji-Hoon looked at her seriously:

– I wouldn't ask it of you otherwise. But I promise I'll be by your side, no matter the shadows we face.

The next day, the first signs of danger appeared at school. One of her students, Joon-Hyun, was acting strangely: invisible sounds, vacant stares, a shadow moving behind him for no reason.

Ha-Rin approached him gently, her hand trembling slightly, yet she kept her composure:

– Joon-Hyun… do you see something?

– Yes… a shadow… someone… behind you… – the boy answered fearfully, his eyes wide.

Suddenly, the lights went out, books fell from the desks, and the wind howled inside the classroom for no reason, filling the air with silent terror.

At that moment, Ji-Hoon entered, his sharp gaze dominating the room:

– Stay away from the windows! – he shouted, his voice low but firm – This is not a game; this is only the beginning.

Ha-Rin felt a mysterious energy surrounding the room, every part of her body screaming caution, but also sensing an unseen force protecting her… something she had never felt before.

– Is this… my father? – she whispered to herself, stepping closer toward the faint shadow.

After school, Ha-Rin and Ji-Hoon met Min-Joo, an old friend of her father and a scholar of ancient symbols, and Soo-Jin, a girl capable of detecting energy.

– There is a greater force… not just ghosts, – Min-Joo said, placing a map full of cryptic symbols on the table – It's a dark energy trying to take over the city.

– So… we have to face it? – Ha-Rin asked, determination shining in her eyes.

– Yes… but with caution, – Ji-Hoon replied, watching her with concern but also reassurance – Every step must be calculated.

– Tonight, the forces will move more intensely… this will be your first true test, – Soo-Jin added, her eyes glowing in the darkness – Be ready.

Night fell, turning the city into a maze of shadows. Every dark street seemed to harbor independent life.

Ha-Rin and Ji-Hoon led the team, every step calculated, every attack measured. Ghosts moved from every corner, their cries blending with the roar of the wind.

– Stay back! – Ji-Hoon shouted as Ha-Rin advanced toward a raging shadow.

– I won't let you control everything! – she replied, a faint smile on her lips, her eyes gleaming with determination.

With each movement, each scream, their bond deepened: trust, caution, mutual reliance… and feelings blossoming amidst the terror.

Suddenly, they were hit by a massive wave of dark energy. Ji-Hoon raised his hand to protect her, his eyes shining with concern:

– Protect me…

Ha-Rin didn't retreat. Instead, she grabbed his hand firmly, their eyes meeting in a long moment of silence filled with passion and trust:

– We won't be afraid anymore… our combined strength is enough to face anything.

With their unity, Ha-Rin released a white beam of energy, dispelling the shadow's power for the first time, and the city trembled before calm returned.

– I've never seen such power… – Ji-Hoon said, embracing her – You're extraordinary… and the greatest partner I could ever hope for.
