Chapter 1 - prologue — One-on-one meeting (I)

[the sole writer of this nightmare. The one who created all these problems. Chaos shall rise upon humanity, crushing the once-important laws. Survival is to break free from the power controlling you. Who knew something so ordinary such as words and sentences were so powerful?

-Fated by death]

Pwa!

The sound of a crumpled-up piece of paper hits the wall, falling down onto the ground. The dark room is filled with scribbling noises, trashed works, the faint light of the computer and an unknown writer.

"What the hell is going on with my creativity these days..."

I sighed, picking up the pen that had rolled on to the ground, putting it back into the pencil holder. Maybe it was just the huge amount of work at the office. While I was sitting there, thinking of what to write next, I could feel a buzz from my phone laying next to the lamp. I groaned, looking over, I picked up the phone.

"Ugh. Damn it…Please don't get me rejected again."

It was the notifications sent from a book publishing company I applied to. I closed my eyes, preparing for the worst. I read the messages.

-Mr. Han Gyungho, thank you for choosing our company…

My eyes lit up as the message came to an end. Putting down the phone, I let out a relief sigh.

"Finally. I did it."

The book I've been spending so much time writing was accepted. I've finally been acknowledged by someone, I could cry out with joy right here.

I went back to my computer right away, preparing to unload a couple ideas down the blank canvas. It was finally my time to shine!

I've been writing for 5 years straight as a part-time author, desperately reaching out to companies one after another to upload my novels, as well as managing a job that has been my main income. Sadly, I've failed multiple times until now. Who could've known such a person like me could ever get to do things I enjoyed and make money at the same time.

Looking at the name of the company, it didn't look like such a huge hit with the public, but I'm not the person to complain here. I got accepted. I smiled, changing the tab on my computer to the project I've been writing.

"I've been working on this novel for almost a year now, about time I got accepted..."

I smiled, thinking about all the ways I'll be celebrating this. Then it finally hit me. I can't write more if I don't continue working on the company's office projects… I've left too many projects overdue lately, I'm surprised they haven't even fired me yet.

"Crap! I haven't even drawn a single thing."

Looking behind me, crumpled papers were lying everywhere. I groaned.

"All this mess as well..."

Maybe this was the downside of overworking myself. I stood up, stretching my arms and sighed.

"Let's do this."

I smiled tiredly at the huge mess in my room.

At least my main job pays enough to survive each month. Before I could even go outside and grab the broom, a message popped up again from the laptop screen. I went and reached for the light switch, then back into my chair.

"Argh.. the light is blinding me!"

I looked at my desk, gasping. I didn't even notice it was this dirty because of all the time I've spent in the dark.

"Ahh!! What the hell?!"

Pushing all my projects off and onto the ground, I reached for the computer mouse and clicked on my Z-Mail. I looked at it, surprised.

"One-on-one interview… holy shit."

My cursor traces and highlights the words as I read it thoroughly. Everything is happening so quickly, I can't tell wether all of these things are real or just some obscure dream of mine.

I can't imagine that after a long day working to come back home for more work was this rewarding… We'll be discussing more about my works and how much they'll be paying soon, I must prepare.

After the wave of excitement was over, I looked back down at the ground.

"Almost forgot about this…haah."

Aside from the pile if garbage that was already there, now I have to pick up my documents that I pushed off the table. What a pain in the back. I sighed, walked out to grab the broom.

For the next few days, I was preparing for the meeting, buying new clothes and cleaning up my apartment. I was like a brand new person, I haven't looked like this since the first day I joined the company I worked at…

"This is insane, I can't even recognize myself anymore."

My name is Han Gyungho, an average office worker with a dream of becoming a novelist. I'm 26, single and have the lamest life ever according to some people. They aren't wrong to think that. It's not like anything interesting had happened, at least for after I stepped foot out of univers—

"Urgh!"

I stumbled backwards and fell down onto the hard concrete floor of the street. My hand still holding onto the folders I sorted out for the meeting, I stood up, groaning. This damn bastard.. who does he think he is?!

I turned around, expected the guy to be kneeling down to help or at least checked if I was okay. The punk was no where to be found.

"What the hell?!"

I sighed, brushing it off and continued walking. I can't be late to something so important today anyways. I took a day off from my office job to go to the meeting with this person…

I checked the clock I received as a gift from last year's Christmas. Looking back straight at the road I was heading down. I'm almost there.

To other people, becoming an author might not be that interesting or special, nothing much to look forward to. But, to me, this was a once in a lifetime chance.

Who could've known a mere meeting could lead to such a chaotic future to deal with?

What a shame.
