Chapter 4 - Hikaru

Hikaru was four years old now. He would have loved to claim everything was going to plan and he was well on his way to greatness. However, the exact opposite was going on.

"Stupid new life!" He grumbled to himself as he kicked a pebble across the street.

It hadn't taken him long to realize the world he was born in was not the one he came from. For one thing, his body wasn't normal at all. Across it, in spots that didn't hinder his movement were tiny mirrors. Yes. Mirrors of all things.

That wasn't even the worst of it. One glance at the television had told him everything he needed to know. No matter what time he turned the TV on, he would always be reminded of one truth he desperately wanted to avoid.

Even this morning, he saw Him on the TV. A giant of a man, with a body so muscled it would have made the best bodybuilder in his previous life green with envy. He had spiky blond hair and an impossibly wide smile. And most noticeable of all his features, was his attire.

It was unmistakably a superhero costume.

The man he had seen on the news was All Might.

Damn it. Damn it. There go my dreams of using my computer science skills to gain fame. No one cares about some nerdy ass engineer!

Kicking the pebble again, he attempted to calm himself down. Not all was bad. Yes, his idea of becoming a computer scientist was dead, but when one door closes another opens. He could see it, a fast track to fame and glory. Becoming a hero.

All Might was not the only one with superpowers, nearly everyone had some sort of ability. Quirks, they called it.

From what he could guess, Hikaru knew his quirk had something to do with Light. His mother had the ability to make herself into a human flashlight. His father, on the other hand, had a more subtle quirk. He could form lenses over his eyes that allowed him to adjust his sight to this will.

With the mirrors on his body, it was pretty damn obvious his quirk was some sort of combination of the two. The quirk doctor had told his parents his quirk had not fully awakened yet, which was good news. If all Hikaru had was some mirrors spread over his body, he might as well have kissed his dreams to be a hero goodbye.

MHA wasn't a show he knew much of, in fact he didn't even know how the show had ended. The years it had taken for him to regain his bodily functions had further impacted the information he retained.

Hikaru still remembered who the main character was of course. Deku. Green-haired kid with freckles and the confidence rivalled only by his stubbornness.

Hikaru had admired Deku's passion and determination. It was likely the only reason he had bothered watching the show in the first place. However, as much as Hikaru admired him, he found him just as annoying.

A brat chosen by the greatest hero in the country, personally trained by him for MONTHS, and he STILL couldn't muster the ability to speak up properly for YEARS. It was downright embarrassing. Was this anger justified? Not really. Was he being jealous? No shit.

Still though, Hikaru knew his opinions to be correct no matter what motivated them.

Hikaru found himself more drawn to the brat's childhood friend. Katsuki Bakugo. Violent kid with a violent quirk and an even more violent ego.

Despite his flaws, Hikaru could understand him. Praised since childhood for his strength and talent, what other choice did he have other than to live up to those expectations?

Bakugo's arrogance came from his competence, and so long as that remained true Hikaru would tolerate him.

"Hikaru! Be a dear and come home!" His mother called out from his house.

Hikaru sighed and began walking home.

Since the moment his parents had suggested the idea, Hikaru had fervently refused to go to school. Despite his refusals to go, his mother's patience had finally reached its limits.

He sighed again.

Oh, divine chalk stick! Save me from my plight!

Hikaru felt something slamming into his back, causing him to stumble forward.

"Cheer up kiddo!" His father told him excitedly. "I'm sure you'll love it there!"

His father looked completely different from others he knew. Not because of his quirk, but because of his race. Brown skin, messy dark hair, and tall build. He tended to stand out.

"Yes father..." Hikaru answered him, unconvinced.

"Father?" He replied, raising his eyebrows. "Where did calling me dad go? Mad, are we? Hmm? What's next? Going to call me Daichi Amateru next? Oh, the pain!"

He clenched his heart dramatically.

"Stop teasing our son you manchild!" Hikaru heard his mother yell from afar. "Hikaru get your LAZY BUM over here before I do it myself!"

Both men paled upon hearing that and rushed home.

Hikaru's mother Akari was the sweetest person he knew, unless someone flipped her switch. Unfortunately, the trigger of that switch was rather loose.

"I'm coming mom! No need to yell!" Hikaru said, sprinting towards her.

Akari's face softened upon looking at her son.

Grabbing hold of his arm, she began fussing over his appearance. She had long since given up on taming that hair of his, but she refused to let him become as messy as his father.

By the time she was done, Hikaru looked like a neater, slightly lighter skinned, and smaller version of his father.

She clapped her hands excitedly at her son. "Now who's ready for his first day at school?"

"Meeeee" He answered, dragging the word unenthusiastically.

"Is that attitude I hear?" Akari said sharply, a small scowl covering her face.

Hikaru straightened up immediately. "My very being trembles with delight at the chance to meet new friends and conquer new horizons! Please forgive my prior rudeness!"

He then stuck a pose, causing his father to burst into laughter.

"Now that's what I wanna see!" He said, picking his son up.

"Well then, see you later dear!" Akari said, lightly kissing both men.

"Goodbye mom!" Hikaru said, forcing a smile to his face.

Please no annoying kids. I hope they all just ignore me. Or wait. What if they bully me? Then I'll have an excuse to leave!

Before he could continue that trail of thought, an image of his mother showed up, beating up any child that dared to bully her son. Hikaru shuddered at that.

He prayed, for the sake of the kids he would meet, none of them try anything stupid.
