Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Manager's Secret

Back to Present Day

Hin-ko: "But that was the past."

Woon: "Happy to see you not dwelling on past matters."

Hin-ko: "I've changed for the better."

Later at Jin-na's Room

There's something suspicious about this Woon guy.

Jin-na writes in her diary:

He suddenly appeared in our lives, and ever since he came, my brother has changed. He used to go out everyday to a Dungeon, but ever since Woon came, he only goes out once in a while. I'm not complaining, but he used to have a passion for this Hunter stuff, and now he just treats it like a normal nine-to-five job. And around this guy, I feel this weird feeling. I don't know who he is or what he is, but I think I'm getting close.

Jin-na closes her diary. She looks out her window.

Jin-na: "It's getting late. I should probably sleep."

Jin-na goes to sleep.

The second she does, Woon appears out of thin air. He opens her diary.

Woon: "Haha, she's catching on, huh? Well, I better get rid of her faster than I expected."

Fast Forward: A Week Later

Jin-na is in class. The fire alarm rings.

Random Student: "Yo, Teach, is this a drill?"

Teacher: "No way! We have no drill scheduled today!"

The class descends into chaos.

Teacher: "Like we practiced, go in an ord—"

Before he can finish, students start to run for the exit, knocking the teacher to the ground and breaking his leg.

Jin-na rushes to help the teacher get up.

Teacher: "Leave without me, Jin-na!"

Jin-na: "No. I'm going to help you no matter what."

Using her fire-survival skill, Jin-na starts helping him out, and they manage to get outside.

Jin-na: "I told you I would save you!"

Suddenly, a student starts yelling inside the school.

Student: "HELP ME, PLEASE!"

Before Jin-na can re-enter, the teacher grabs her arm.

Teacher: "DON'T GO! I made a promise with your brother to keep you safe. Don't go, please!"

Jin-na: "Don't worry, I can handle this."

She says this as she runs back into the burning school.

Jin-na: "Where are you?!"

Student (Voice): "I'M HERE! I'M HER—"

Jin-na heads toward the voice, but instead, she sees Woon.

Woon: "Hahaha! I knew that would work."

Jin-na: "Wait, Woon, wha—"

Woon: "Don't act surprised. I read your diary. It seems you know my secrets."

Jin-na: "What are you?"

Woon: "That's a secret I'm not going to share with you."

Jin-na: "I'm going to tell my brother—"

Woon: "Don't bother. You're going to die today, long before you can tell him all of that nonsense."

Woon kills her with a clean, decisive strike.

Woon then disappears into thin air.

Hin-ko, after hearing the news, was devastated. He felt the true weight of what he had done to others by not saving that mother in the fire; the pain was now his.

He held the funeral, being the only one there along with Woon.

Woon: "I am so sorry for your loss."

Hin-ko: "Thanks, Woon," Hin-ko said quietly.

A Few Weeks Later at Hin-ko's House

Hin-ko was sitting alone, nursing a drink. "What is life, Woon? A sick, f**king joke?"

Woon: "Oh, be careful with that glass of liquor."

Hin-ko: "You know what? Get out. I want a night all alone."

Woon: "As you wish."

Woon left the house, leaving Hin-ko completely alone.

Hin-ko eventually made his way to Jin-na's room.

"I wish you were here with me," Hin-ko whispered.

Then, he noticed a book tucked away.

"What's this?"

He picked it up and opened it. The very first page read:

Hey! This is my diary. If you're not me, don't read it!

Hin-ko laughed, a hollow, painful sound. "She's the same after all these years."

He continued reading, the nostalgia slowly fading as he got to the newest entry. He read it once, then again, and a cold dread replaced his grief.

"Hmm, what's this?"

He read Jin-na's final entry and realized something crucial:

Jin-na had mentioned being burned, even though normal fires could not burn her due to her skill. The teacher mentioned they heard a student yelling "Help me," yet there was no other body found inside the school besides Jin-na.Jin-na's suspicion that Woon was acting strangely and felt like a monster.

Hin-ko slammed the diary shut. He put two and two together and instantly realized: Woon killed her.

"THAT DAMN BASTARD!"
