Chapter 25 - Shadow fang

MADDOX ~

I watched them wheel Nessa's unconscious wolf form down the corridor toward the medical wing, and all I could think was:

I should have seen it coming.

Should have calculated the probability that continuous trauma without any release valve would eventually result in catastrophic breakdown.

But I'd been too focused on external threats—the attack on Daniel, the border crisis, the political implications, to pay attention to the powder keg we'd created in our own home.

Strategic failure. Complete strategic failure.

"Maddox."

Kade's voice pulled me back to the present.

He stood in the center of the destroyed servants' wing, covered in blood, Nessa's, Helena's, his own from where she'd bitten his shoulder.

"We need to debrief," he said. "War room. Now."

I nodded and followed him, Rowan falling into step beside me.

None of us spoke as we walked through the corridors. Pack members pressed themselves against the walls as we passed, their eyes wide with shock and fear.
