Chapter 11 - Past affection

---

The one capable of things that many could not, she became the talk of the school due to her punctuality and dedication that day. Those who were near her were confused, as it was not her usual behavior, until she reached that point. She remained silent as if unaware that she had become the center of attention for the whole school because of her actions.

---

It wasn't only the students; even the teachers who entered the first periods to teach were surprised to find her there. She was unusually attentive and focused on lessons. Even though it was known that she usually ignored what was being taught, letting it pass in one ear and out the other, today she remained engaged.

"Teddy, my friend, I am so surprised at that girl today. She is calm and very focused in class. Even when answering questions, she participates, unlike before when every exam she scored zero or one, and in class she always held the last position, never moving up except for one friend surpassing her."

"First, let me give you the scoop, shosti. Yesterday, when I was leaving and I said I would go down where Teacher Anna was, you know she was unwell, I decided to pass that way. I found her among a group of women dressed as if they were intimidating someone. As I passed, I realized the topic was about standing firm, I had never seen a child with such confidence and bold speech."

"Your problem is that you're new here. There was a teacher named Agatha who taught Civics. One day she argued with her, and it escalated; the teacher used words until it turned into a fight. The girl is stubborn, especially defiant, and hit the teacher severely, showing no fear. She was suspended from school, told to return with a parent, punished at school by her father, and still did not show that boldness again."

"Don't tell me the girl is that daring. I thought it was only boys her age, until a teacher tried to confront her," another commented.

"And she wrestles like a boxer. Teacher Agatha had to request a transfer; she couldn't continue working there. Her reputation was ruined, and she was moved to Nzasa to teach. That girl stays far away, because if you can't handle her, she can embarrass you, and you might end up leaving in shame. I wouldn't even let her sit nearby or get used to her. I remember that day she was scolded by her father; I froze, I didn't recognize her when she was punished with that man she was called to, both of them were thrown around by the elder."

"Mh, my friend, that's enough. I wouldn't even approach her if that's how she is."

---

These were discussions among female teachers during break, talking in the office. The main topic was Siyawezi, and much was revealed that some had no prior knowledge of, especially regarding that girl. He was clearly famous due to his pranks and other incidents.

---

While they discussed, Rama was sitting under a tree with other youths, each holding a bowl of cassava. They continued eating as the bell to return to class had not yet rung, talking as they ate because silence was unusual for them. Once the food was enjoyable, Frida arrived, greeting the others, then handed Rama a soda and left.

"Ramso, let me know your healer, seriously, that child doesn't listen anyone about you at all. That's why I know who gave you that restriction," one friend said, making others laugh loudly, implying that the girl had misbehaved, which explained her behavior.

"Mwita, stop messing around, why do you take cute over there at Marks? Every holiday, the children there are brought food," Rama teased.

"Ramso, I also wanted to say the same. Anitha, that child blind to him, never punished by her brothers unless a parent intervenes, but they failed to stop her," another confirmed.

"You, Amos, just stay quiet. When we were in seventh grade, even the cakes from home for Jeni's family were delivered. Here she is, studying far away, but when she returns, she has to come to you. No joking around," Mwita added.

"But let's put jokes aside. I forgot to mention yesterday Manje called me to his office; he wanted to question me about Frida and then threaten me. I pressured him and warned him not to act unless he wanted serious consequences. That teacher, you know, is strict, the children fear him, we heard about it from the base. he continues with her standards even here. I tell you, when I reach eighteen, I'll assign heavy duties."

"Friend, I know you'll seriously confront that teacher. You'll be given a chance to return, but she trusts that child completely. he won't delay punishing you," Mwita said.

"You guys, relax. Let him act foolish with those like Siyawezi, who defy authority, but not here."

"(laughing) And my child, that girl accepts you so easily; even if you tell her today to sleep at the gate, she agrees. You have no knowledge of her, and you've blocked all ways for her," Amos added.

"Better I take the law into my own hands than eat that garbage. From the sixth grade at the main Pagale near the dam, She took ten people on her side like nothing happenei. I washed her immediately; we've been there long but you don't know how it went with that girl… It started in fifth grade; I met her in a neighborly exam coming from Kizuiani. I understood her and tried my luck, but I received all kinds of abuse. I struggled and suffered. Then another Saturday she came to the school, and on that exam day, a sixth-grade hooligan had arranged her, she left with him; my heart hurt. Years passed, and in sixth grade, after leaving the dam, I went to chase her when she was being fuc*ed that Saturday; from that day I completely distanced myself and had no dealings with her."

"I see she's come on her own now, and you set your rules like a republic, you will nwver touch her," Mwita said.

"That child, if she exposes herself here, I don't know how I'd react. Those who grab her, I see are very reckless. She tried to attract me many times but she failed. Someone told her he'd help her and requested her baggage, but it was not released. The man struck and harassed her, yet did nothing. Then I heard the story and laughed a lot. But when the pursuer came, he encountered a gang and got beaten severely. That's when I realized these hooligans really respect her, she handled the situation like a boss," Rama explained in detail about Siyawezi.
