Travis's consciousness felt like another being entirely—a separate entity with a mind of its own. His hands calculated and snapped almost autonomously, severing heads from stiff necks until there were none left to look up again.

"All of this could have been avoided if you had just left us alone," Travis repeated, the words hanging like a curse over the lizard people. They had judged too quickly. No one had expected him to make that move, let alone overpower mages trained for years in combat. Even he found it strange.

"You won't win! I will never allow you to leave in peace!" The female leader who had given the command now seethed with hatred. She turned to a human who had not yet been touched by the blood rage and ordered him to finish what they had started.
