The evening sun cast an orange hue onto the city of New Babylon. Reminding its residents that the day was about to come to an end, guiding them to their homes and families.
New Babylon was a massive metropolis. A city that was relatively new, located in the west coast of America, It was a port city in California that began development in the late 80's. But even though it was a newer well planned city, It still had the one problem that haunted all major cities in the world. Rush hour traffic. All the major highways in the city were all jam packed with frustrated drivers at this time, already tired from a day full of hard work.
Highway 10 was one such place. Right now it was filled with cars that were almost packed bumper to bumper. The air around it was a symphony of pollution, noise and impatience.
But the vibe in a food truck stuck in this traffic was completely different.
Victor Pride sat in the drivers seat of the Food truck he had just bought with a big smile on his face. It was as if the traffic around him did not exist. His mood was the best it had been in the past 3 years and no amount of traffic could change that.
He had finally done it. 3 Years. 3 years of boring lectures, stressful assignments and busting his ass off at a part time job that would probably qualify as torture. And this was the result. A food truck and a degree in Computer Science.
He drove his truck with a big smile on his face all the way to his destination, An empty parking lot near the outskirts of the city. After parking it in a spot hidden from view, he got out and walked around it to give it a once over.
The truck was brand new, just off the lot. It was completely white with no designs on it. It was a standard model with all the basics in it. Like a fryer, stovetop, freezer, etc. All top quality stainless steel. It looked beautiful.
Purchasing it was a huge gamble. This was why he had not informed his friends and family about it. If they found out that he had spent all his savings from the past 3 years to buy a food truck, they would slap the shit out of him. They would probably think that the stress had finally got him and that he had gone crazy. He would too if he was in their place to be frank.
Afterall, Victor was a typical nerdy computer science grad. The only thing he knew how to cook was instant noodles, cereal and coffee.
But here he was. While all his friends were celebrating their graduation today and partying somewhere, He had taken a taxi right after the ceremony and went off to buy this truck.
But he was not crazy or stupid. Probably.
He had a reason for buying this truck. And as he stood in front of the truck, the reason revealed itself.
[God Of Cooking System]
[Active Quests]
[Quest - Purchase a Restaurant]
[Reward - Ramen Noodles]
This screen was the reason Victor had purchased the food truck. It had appeared before him a couple months back. Initially, he thought that he had gone crazy from reading all the system novels. But over time he had come to realize that it really was there. A screen stating that he had received the God of Cooking system. When he had chosen to accept the system, this was the first quest that he received.
At that point he had 2 theories. Either after years of consuming brain rot videos and novels, he had finally lost his last braincell. Or this was real and he had actually gained the system.
All he had to do was complete the quests and he would receive top tier rewards. Just like the novels he had read.
But He did not rush into it. Always wait and consider for at least 10 days before taking any major decisions. This was what his father always said. This piece of advice had saved him thousands of dollars overs the years. He always waited before purchasing the latest phone and after a couple weeks, the hype would die down and he would realize that he did not actually need to upgrade.
So he did the same this time as well. He waited. And in the meantime he did something that was just as important. Having a plan B. So while he waited, he completed his program and got the degree.
And now here he was. Either he had received a system and would become a God of cooking, just for the measly price of 30k. Or something was very wrong with his head. In which case, considering the price of the good old freedom healthcare, the 30k would not have done much for him. So it was not a loss.
Hopefully this would work and the truck would be considered as a restaurant. Even if it was a mobile one. Otherwise this would have been a waste and who knew how many years he would have to work before he could purchase an actual restaurant in New Babylon.
*inhale* *Exhale*
Setting aside these negative thoughts, Victor pushed down his nervousness. It was time.
[Quest - Purchase a Restaurant]
[Reward - Ramen Noodles]
[Choose Food truck as Restaurant?]
[Yes] [No]
"Yes!" Victor exclaimed. It had worked.
[Restaurant Selected]
[Quest complete]
[Customizing Restaurant]
"What?"
Before he could realize what was happening, the truck was covered in a bright white light. When the light faded, he could he a completely different truck in front of him.
It looked as if the ramen stalls that he saw in anime and movies had a baby with a food truck.
"Damn. I guess this confirms it. I am not crazy after all."
The truck was now dark brown in colour. It had a large window on one side with a counter at the bottom of the window sill. There were 4 Wooden stools below the counter. A small awning was extended above the window. It covered the counter and some space behind it. At the end of the awning were 4 small red curtains. They had the words 'welcome' and 'ramen' written on them in gold. 2 lamps hung on the sides of the window, providing candle light to the customers. It felt warm and cozy. Like a small space for you to have a warm meal in peace.
The Truck had had an aesthetic that made it feel new and old at the same time. There were no crazy designs on it. Just the name at the top of the window and on the other side of the truck. It was written in bold letters.
The name he had chosen for his restaurant was "The tase of Ambrosia".
"A taste of the food of the gods. Sounds pretty cocky, hopefully the taste can match the name."
