Chapter 9 - Chapter 7 – Media Storm

June 28, 2016 – 24 Hours After the Leak

The clip had passed 3 million views.

No caption. No context.

Just 47 seconds of erasure.

Analysts scrambled.

Podcasts speculated.

Old heads dismissed.

Young fans mythologized.

"He's a fluke."

"He's a ghost."

"He's the future."

But no one had heard him speak.

Not publicly.

Not yet.

The Request

Timberwolves PR offered Elias three options:

1. ESPN sit-down.

2. NBA TV feature.

3. Local press conference.

He declined all three.

Instead, he walked into the media room alone.

No handler. No script.

Just a mic.

The Statement

He stood at the podium.

Looked at the reporters.

Then spoke.

"I didn't leak the footage.

I didn't ask to be explained.

But since you're all watching—

here's what I'll say."

He paused.

Not for effect.

For clarity.

"I'm not here to entertain.

I'm not here to trend.

I'm here to test the system that drafted me."

"If I fail, bench me.

If I break, cut me.

But if I hold—

then maybe it's not me that needs fixing."

He stepped back.

No questions.

No follow-up.

Just silence.

The Aftershock

The clip aired on every network.

Analysts froze.

"That wasn't a rookie."

"That was a recalibration."

The league office issued a statement:

"We support all players using their voice."

But they didn't know what Elias's voice was yet.

And that terrified them.

Back in the Locker Room

A teammate approached him.

"You planned that?"

Elias shook his head.

"I just stopped waiting to be defined."
