Chapter 7 - Scavenging

Quests exist? Discarding that thought i slowly sit up. Spikes of pain lancing though my abdomen along my new seam.

If it wasn't clear before Cleave is not a healing ability. At best it's able to glue me back together, but each cut has an upkeep cost. Force is constantly flowing out of my center and into each and every cut. I'm not certain how many I can sustain, but the cleaner cuts I stared with seem to cost less then this new one.

"You did it! I alway believed in you soldier! Now let's get moving and gather up those supplies!"

Ignoreing Ghosts fax joy while shakily standing up and walking over to the mantis corpse. I swear I might just be a little shorter now.

Holding the knife I begin hacking at one of the matisis syths, I need reach, I don't want to get that close to something so dangerous again… so I'm going to make a longer weapon.

"What are you doing? What ever it is stop it, we need to start gathering supplies and prepare to fight our way down this tower."

I feel her grab my shoulder and try to pull me along. But I grab hold of the mantis, to stop myself from moving." No."

"No.No? What do you mean NO!…im the scout you're the soldier remember? That's what we agreed on."

"I said no, I don't want you scouting for me I don't want your help anymore."

SLAP!

I grunt as I'm smaked upside the head but I don't look at Ghost instead I continue focusing on harvesting one of the syths."I don't trust you Ghost… you chose to not tell me about this thing being on the other side of the door, you chose to not help me fight it, you chose to attach me when I didn't immediately start following you! Just leave me alone. I don't want your help."

SLICK. With a small surge of Force along my knife's still slightly bloody edge I Cleave off the mantis's syth at the wrist. Leaving me feeling even more winded and drained. Yet I stil stand and face her." Leave me alone Ghost."

-

She doesn't leave insted she just yells at me, hits me and insults me. I'm actually starting to wonder if she's related to my aunt…I just ignore her while dragging my prize back to my room. Proping the syth blade against the vending machine before sitting down on my bed I pull out the parisite book. It's been vibrating in my center ever since the mantis died.

Presence went up? Plus concussed is gone, It must have taken longer than I expected to move the blade…my Force regenerates so slowly too. Then there's my health which is slipping into the gutter. And finally I've apparently gained 1% of a level? Is that what the denser Force siting in my center is? I almost wish I hadn't spent it staying alive when I got cut in half.

After a small 1 hour break I begin gathering the supplies from this floor in one of the bigger purses a nurse left in my room, it's basically a satchel.

Some rooms are empty and probably always have been. Some are glorified offices having been filled with someone's personal effects, while others are filled with gore and viscera from when the mantis got a hold of the rooms residents. Those are hard to look at and I can bring myself to enter them. Even still i find enough foodstuffs to last me a week if I ration. 4 if I stuff my self, probably 2 if I share with Ghost…I still have the vending machine to cut open as well.

Within the employee room for this floor I do find a bunch of spar clothes!

I can't help but smile when I look in a little hand mirror and see a familiar street urchin looking back, instead of a sickly patient.

Then there's the office. Ghost wasn't lying when she said there was a strange box inside the directors office." It's a blood treasure chest Ghost, it even has an emblem that looks like the mantis ware the lock should be!" I feel so tired and her constant death glare isn't helping.

"How would I know what a treasure chest looks like? It's weird shiny box that no one uses nowadays."

"Have you never read an adventure or a fantasy book? There full of tails of treasure."

" I had a life before my condition, responsibility's, and expectations to meet. I didn't have time to read silly old books!"

Irritated i walk up and open the chest. Inside we find two curious items? A small vile of clear…or is it rambow colored liquid? Tier 1-Minor Force potion- recovers a small amount of Force within a vessel. Then a crude yet surprisingly sharp crystalline rock Carving Rock- A tool commonly used by Deep Ork weapon smiths to carve wood, bone and soft stone.

"I want the potion."Ghost demands.

I ignore her and pocket both items. This provokes her to get in my way.

"Give me the potion."

I walk through her."you can't even carry it long term Ghost, besides I need Force for my ability remember. So unless you want to fight everything I'm keeping it."

She grumbles and punches me a few time. I'm starting to be glad she so weak. At least she can't hurt me in any significant way.

When we eventually get back to my room I start putting the carving rock to use by cutting up the vending machine. Like butter the plastic, aluminum, and my skin are easily cut by the Little Rock! Curiously as my blood covers it's edges I find myself having to force myself to not use Cleave as the sharp instrument almost begs me to help it cut things.

With the vending machine scraped, I've officially got enough food for two weeks…1 if I share with Ghost. Now I just need to turn the mantis syth into a viable weapon. Hopefully this Little Rock can help with that.
