Chapter 14 - Talk With Kakashi

Kakashi wasn't on duty tonight, so naturally, he wasn't wearing his cat-shaped mask.

He looked over at the sound and saw Satoshi slowly walking towards him. "Oh, it's Satoshi. Why aren't you resting so late?"

Kakashi felt a bit embarrassed. He hadn't expected to be badmouthing someone only to run into the person himself.

Amidst his shyness, a hint of surprise flashed in his heart. Perhaps it was due to his lack of focus, but he hadn't noticed Satoshi's arrival. Years of war experience made him involuntarily gasp. If this were on the battlefield, he would likely suffer a great loss.

Satoshi stopped two steps away from Kakashi and said, "It's my night shift tonight. I have to look around."

Kakashi let out a sound of surprise. "Does the Konoha Military Police Force's work also include patrolling the cemetery?"

Satoshi thought for a moment and said, "Why not? If someone revives, Hokage-sama needs to be informed immediately."

A crow flew over Kakashi's head.

That boring joke wasn't funny at all.

"Ahem." Satoshi cleared his throat, covering his inner awkwardness.

He looked at the Memorial Stone and, as expected, Obito's name was written on it.

Satoshi felt that Kakashi was actually a very tragic person. When he was young, his father committed suicide because he couldn't bear the village's gossip. His good friend Obito "died" in front of him, and he personally killed Rin. And later, his respected teacher Minato also died.

If any of these experiences were placed on a modern person, it would be a miracle if they didn't jump off a building.

And Kakashi later managed to overcome it with the help of Guy.

He didn't know whether to say Guy's psychological counseling ability was amazing, or Kakashi's resolve was strong.

Satoshi asked knowingly, "Is he a friend of Kakashi-senpai?"

Kakashi's fingertips brushed the stone surface. "Buried here is my dearest friend, Obito."

"During the Third Great Ninja War, he lost his life saving me. We didn't even find his body."

Kakashi stroked the scar over his left eye. "At his dying moment, he gave me this Sharingan, asking me to live well with his beliefs."

At this, Kakashi lowered his head.

Even after many years, he often woke up from nightmares. The deaths of Obito and Rin became an indelible nightmare for him.

Satoshi was silent for a while. Actually, your friend Obito didn't die, he has always been silently watching you from the shadows.

Perhaps sensing the atmosphere was too heavy, Kakashi immediately changed the subject, "Why do you carry a fishing rod when you're on duty?"

"Oh, this?" Satoshi demonstrated it to Kakashi. "This is for Naruto."

Kakashi took the fishing rod and looked at it. He knew the brand, it was expensive, very expensive. Let alone Satoshi, even he wouldn't bring himself to buy it.

A dangerous thought popped into Kakashi's mind. "Stealing from villagers is a serious crime. You should return it to him quickly."

Satoshi squinted at Kakashi and asked, "What nonsense are you talking about? As a member of the Konoha Military Police Force, I always prioritize protecting villagers. Would I do something so unconscionable?"

"That unscrupulous merchant swindled all of Naruto's living expenses, so I went to reason with him."

Kakashi raised an eyebrow. "Reason?"

He didn't think Satoshi was someone who liked to reason.

His so-called reasoning was probably a harsh threat to the boss.

Satoshi continued to spout nonsense. "After a heartfelt exchange, the boss voluntarily handed over this one as compensation for Naruto."

Kakashi couldn't listen anymore.

You're bragging here.

Do you think you're the Hokage? And he voluntarily gave it to you? That boss must have been beaten so badly his own mother wouldn't recognize him.

Kakashi had already guessed most of it. He thought about scolding Satoshi a bit. But Satoshi was stubborn, saying that if he didn't believe it, he should go ask the boss himself. This left Kakashi speechless.

Your rogue attitude really is...

"Kakashi-senpai."

"Hmm?"

"Please deliver the fishing rod to Naruto."

Satoshi pinched his brow and said, "Every time I interact with Naruto, Hokage-sama and Danzo-sama seem to have some objections."

His tone carried a hint of sadness, which made Kakashi feel a bit annoyed.

Satoshi was indeed very kind to Naruto. At least, kinder than him.

But why did he have to be an Uchiha?

As a squad leader in Anbu, he had taken on many missions targeting the Uchiha.

At the same time, he also knew that the Hokage and others did not truly trust the Uchiha.

But are there no good people in the Uchiha clan? His friend Obito was even given the title of a war hero.

Kakashi's mind was a bit muddled.

"Satoshi..."

Satoshi interrupted Kakashi, "Kakashi-senpai, I need to go on patrol. Also, read fewer adult novels, it's not good for your health."

"Hey, no, I didn't..."

Kakashi still wanted to explain, but Satoshi had already waved his hand and left.

He stood there, looked at the fishing rod, and then at the tombstone.

After thinking for a while, he took out a note, wrote a few lines carefully, and then went to Naruto's doorstep.

After quietly placing it down, he left just as silently.

At the same time, in the Hokage Building.

Hiruzen used the Telescope Jutsu to clearly witness everything that had transpired.

"Satoshi, what an interesting little fellow."

Hiruzen took a puff from his pipe, having a completely new assessment of Satoshi. In his opinion, Satoshi was somewhat different from other Uchiha.

He felt that when Satoshi used Ninjutsu, he resembled his teacher Tobirama, and his thinking was like his close friend, Kagami.

If that were the case, could he also, like them, think about problems with the mindset of a Hokage?

Hiruzen felt that if Satoshi could achieve this, he might become a bridge between Konoha and the Uchiha.

The next morning, the weather was clear and cloudless.

After Naruto woke up, he chugged a large bottle of milk and then haphazardly stuffed some food into his mouth.

His living expenses were gone again. He'd have to go to the back mountains to pick some small mushrooms to eat.

He just wondered how Satoshi was doing. Had those strange, menacing-looking ninjas caused him any trouble?

But Satoshi was a good person, so he shouldn't be bullied, right?

Naruto pushed down the doubt in his heart, grabbed his small basket, and opened the door.

He had barely taken a step when he tripped and fell to the ground, his backside making intimate contact with the hard surface.

"Ouch! Who left trash at my doorstep!"

Naruto clutched his backside, picked up the fishing rod, and was about to throw it away.

Wait, a fishing rod?

Naruto's eyes widened.

He found a note attached to the fishing rod.

Naruto, this is a gift for you. Also, fish soup is delicious.

Satoshi.

Naruto was incredibly touched at that moment, his eyes instantly welling up.

During this time, he had felt something called warmth from Satoshi.
