When they got back to Paris, they discussed the entire issue and how they would break the news to Maya. When they got to Maya's room, she only said, " I guess it's time for me to leave, she said . They realized she had packed her things already. An angry Mrs. Anderson asked Agnes what had happened when she left with her husband. Agnes explained to her that Jake was the one who broke the news to Maya and the entire school. Mrs. Anderson was mad, but she knew either way, Maya was going to find out the truth. They explained everything to Agnes and instructed her to deliver the news to the kids in a gentle, mild manner. When she told Jake Maya was leaving, he was overjoyed. He told Agnes that he could help Maya pack her belongings if the need arose. Agnes just shook her head and asked herself what kind of man Jake was going to be in the future. He was already a source of frustration at this point in his life. He'll do worse when he grows up. She said. When she broke the news to Maya, she wasn't overwhelmed; she was expecting it anyway. She just took in a deep breath and asked Agnes when she'll be leaving. Agnes told her that it would be in a week's time. Maya said that in that case, she would no longer be going to school. She was going to use that time to prepare herself and embrace reality. Agnes was shocked by how a 10-year-old could possess such a profound understanding and thought process. She looked at Maya, and tears ran down her face. " I will miss you, Maya, " Agnes said. "I'll miss your sweet and kind nature, promise me you won't change, and promise me you'll come visit me when you grow up a bit, " Agnes added. "I will," Maya said. "And I won't forget you and everything you've done for me, "Maya added as she hugged Agnes tightly. Agnes knew deep down in her heart that Maya would become a good adult. She just hoped that her new home would treat her right. One week passed like a second, and it was time for her to leave. Agnes helped her pack her things and kissed her goodbye. "Now go and be a good girl to your mom ". Agnes said. Jake just stood at the top of the building, watching Maya pack her things and prepare to leave. He never said goodbye to her. He just watched her leave. And then he turned back and went to his room, where he slept. Maya and her parents never said a word to each other throughout the journey from Paris to New York. When they got to her birth mother's residence, she was happy to see Maya. She hugged her and took her inside. She took all Maya's belongings and kept them in Maria's room. Then she took whatever belonged to Maria and handed them over to the Andersons. The Andersons said their goodbyes to Maya and left with Maria. Maria, who didn't know what was going on, kept quiet and followed the Andersons to her, so far as she was leaving that poor home. She was okay. Tris called Maya and told her that she knows she's coming from a wealthy home, and staying here is the opposite of what she's used to. But she should endure it because things were going to be better. The Andersons didn't give her any money or anything to be used for her care or to pay bills. Tris told Maya that she knew Maya had a lot of valuable items that they could sell for some cash. But she's not going to take anything from her. She's not going to touch any of her clothes. Tris told Maya that her dad had traveled to seek greener pastures, and she hadn't heard from him in a while. But she knows he'll come back home soon. It's just a matter of time. Maya nodded her head and told Trus she was grateful for taking her in and agreeing to show her love. Just then, Tris's firstborn, Malvin, walked into the room. When Malvin set eyes on her, he asked his mother if that was the princess who was promised to her. Her real child, Tris, realized the resemblance between Maya and Melvin. Tris was happy that she didn't lose her child because of poverty. The next day, Tris took Maya to the registry and changed her name from Maya Anderson to Mayla Smith. Meanwhile, back at home. Jake is introduced to his new sister, Maria, whose name was changed to Maria Anderson. Maria, unlike Maya, was arrogant and a nuisance. She was worse than Jake, and hence she and Jake never got along. Jake tried countless times to make friends with Maria. But it all proved futile. It was then that he began to miss Maya. He began to regret how he had mistreated her. He asked his parents if Maya would ever come back, and they said no. They told him Maria was his actual sister, and hence, he had to accept it and move on. At school, everyone found out that Maya had left and that Maria was Jake's real sister because of her behavior and the way she was mean. Everyone in the school started to hate Jake and Maria. They wished Maya were still around. Both the teachers and the students missed Maya so much, but they couldn't do anything about it. Back in New York, Maya couldn't go to a proper school because her mom couldn't afford it. She made friends with the kids in the neighborhood who went to school. Whenever they came home from school, Mayla would take their books and study what they had learnt in school. Whenever Tris saw her, she dreaded the fact that she was so poor that she couldn't even give her own kids a quality education. But regardless of everything, she was glad that Mayla understood her and was content with what she was given, unlike Maria, who would always cry over food and toys and would always make Tris's life a living hell. Not too long after, Malta's dad returned from where he had gone. He came home with little money and told Tris he had given up. He's not going anywhere in search of anything again.
As he stood up to go to the kitchen, he saw Mayla. He asked Tris whose child she was. Tris explained what had happened when he was away to him. But Mr Smith got angry. He told tris she should have allowed the rich men take the two girls away to give them a better life . " what better life can you offer this little girl Tris, " Mr. Smith asked You know we can't even afford to eat twice a day, when the opportunity came you should've allowed them take the girl away, when the give her a better life, then you can go and claim your child " he added. Tris told him that she equally wanted to keep her child, just as they wanted to keep theirs. Mr. Smith told her she was thinking of herself and not the poor girl with dreams and aspirations. They ended their brief conversation there, and Mr. Smith went to bed. Kayla heard everything. She knew she had to make her mom proud, at the very least. So, day in and day out, she worked and studied hard to have a better future. When it was her mom's birthday, Mayla sold her toys and got her mom a beautiful necklace. Her mom was more than happy and thanked the heavens for giving her a daughter like Mayla. She told Mayla she'll be great. All she needed to do was to believe in herself and everything would be fine. Years passed after this incident. Mayla, now 21 years old, works as a maid at one of New York's most famous hotels. It's a hotel known to be the meeting point of most of the world's wealthiest men. Day in and day out, she prayed that Luck would be on her side and one of the billionaires would show interest in her. Well. Luck was indeed on her side.
