Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 — A New Beginning and dungeon Key

The door clicked open, and a young beautiful nurse entered carrying his lunch tray. She froze the moment she caught sight of him body especially his ans.

"M-Mr. Sung…" she stammered, her eyes darting away as a deep flush crept up her neck. She set the tray down on the bedside table a bit too quickly. "You, uh… seem to be recovering very well."

Jinwoo gave a smooth, confident smile. "You could say that. It's mostly thanks to your excellent care these past few days."

Her blush deepened. She fiddled with the edge of her clipboard, shifting her weight nervously from one foot to the other. "Ah... it was just my job, but... you really have changed, Mr. Sung."

She bit her lower lip, taking a deep breath to gather her courage. "Um... since you are being discharged tomorrow... I was wondering... could I possibly get your number?"

Jinwoo paused, looking at her properly. She really was beautiful with sexy hot body —soft features, bright eyes, and a sweet, attentive demeanor that had made his grueling hospital stay much more bearable.

The old Jinwoo would have panicked. He would have stammered out an excuse, felt unworthy of her attention, and missed the opportunity entirely, completely paralyzed by his own insecurities and lack of status.

But the old Jinwoo was gone.

This new Jinwoo knew exactly what he wanted. Power, survival, and a second life with absolutely zero regrets. If he was going to conquer this world and build the life he deserved, that meant never passing up a beautiful woman who caught his eye. He was going to live on his own terms, and he wasn't going to apologize for it.

"Of course," Jinwoo said smoothly, his voice calm and magnetic as he reached for his phone on the bedside table. "I'd like that."

He unlocked the screen and handed it to her. Her eyes widened slightly in surprise, clearly not expecting him to be so composed and straightforward. A bright, genuine smile quickly spread across her face as she tapped in her contact information.

"Here," she said softly, handing the phone back to him. Our hands brushed for a second, and he noticed her pulse quicken. "Please... let me know if you ever want to grab coffee, or just talk."

"I'll definitely do that," Jinwoo promised, holding her gaze effortlessly until she finally turned and practically floated out of the room, her cheeks glowing red.

As the door clicked shut, Jinwoo looked at the new contact saved on his screen. A deeply satisfied smirk touched his lips, and he tossed the phone lightly onto his bed.

'No more hesitating,' he thought, sitting down to eat his meal. 'I'm taking everything this second life has to offer.'

He clenched his fist, feeling the raw, undeniable strength coursing through his veins.

.........

The hospital's automatic doors slid open with a hiss sound.

Sung Jinwoo stepped outside, the late-morning sunlight spilling heavily over his broad shoulders.

The wind brushing past him felt different today—crisp, warm, and distinctly alive.

"Mr. Sung, please remember to take it easy for a few days," the beautiful nurse reminded him from the entrance, holding her clipboard to her chest.

Jinwoo turned back and smiled faintly. "Don't worry. I will."

He turned and walked away, carrying the small duffel bag of his belongings.

When Jinwoo reached his apartment, the front door was unlocked. As he stepped into the cramped entryway and slipped off his shoes, a familiar voice called out from the living room.

"Oppa? Is that you?"

Sung Jinah peeked from the kitchen doorway, her hair tied up in a messy bun. Her face immediately brightened when she saw him—only for her expression to freeze completely a second later.

Her eyes widened to the size of saucers.

"Wait… what happened to you?!"

Jinwoo blinked, feigning ignorance. "Huh?"

She abandoned her cooking and rushed over, circling him in absolute disbelief. "Oppa! You were like a walking stick before! But now—" She stopped, poking his shoulder and squeezing his bicep. "—you're solid! And your face… wait, did you get taller, too?!"

Jinwoo chuckled awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "It's just the hospital food, maybe? Lots of protein."

Jinah puffed her cheeks, glaring up at him playfully. "Hospital food doesn't make people look like *this*!"

She folded her arms and squinted, thoroughly studying the lean, sculpted lines of his frame. The perpetually pale, exhausted brother she used to nag to eat properly now looked sharp and incredibly healthy. His posture was perfectly straight, his movements carried a fluid confidence, and there was a quiet, commanding presence about him now.

"If I didn't know better," Jinah muttered, half-joking, "I'd think a magazine model just broke into our house."

Jinwoo laughed softly. "I wish. But I've just been… training a little bit while recovering."

Jinah tilted her head, her smile fading into a look of genuine concern. "Training? You nearly died, Oppa."

"I know," he said quietly, his dark eyes growing distant for a fraction of a second. "That's exactly why I can't waste this second chance."

For a moment, she saw something flicker behind his calm gaze—a bottomless depth of resolve that she couldn't quite understand, but it made her chest tighten all the same.

She forced a bright smile, grabbing his arm and pulling him toward the kitchen. "Fine, fine! But you better eat properly tonight. I'm making your favorite stew."

Jinwoo smiled warmly. "Sounds perfect."

As she hummed and went back to the stove, Jinwoo exhaled softly and looked around the small, cramped apartment. Nothing had changed. The same worn-out sofa, the same framed photo of their family before the tragedy—yet everything felt entirely new.

[ DAILY QUEST: PREPARATION TO BECOME STRONG ]

[ Status: Completed. ]

[ Rewards are ready to be claimed. ]

A faint, dangerous grin touched his lips.

*"Alright,"* he whispered to himself. *"Let's keep moving forward."*

That night, after dinner, Jinwoo sat on the edge of his bed in the dark.

His sister had already gone to sleep, her soft breathing barely audible through the thin walls of the apartment. The neon city lights outside painted his small room in a faint, colorful glow. In that quiet moment, Jinwoo opened his System window once again.

[ Daily Quest Reward: Random Box – Claimed ]

A small flash of golden light shimmered in the air, and a metallic object materialized, dropping heavily into his waiting palm.

It was a key. But it looked like no key he had ever seen. Forged from pitch-black metal, it had jagged, irregular teeth, with faint, glowing green runes carved along its length. The air immediately surrounding it felt heavy, vibrating with a strange, latent mana.

Jinwoo frowned, turning the cold metal over in his hand. "A… dungeon key?"

He tapped the glowing text hovering above it.

[ ITEM: Dungeon Key (E-Rank) ]

Rarity:E

Type: Consumable

Description: A key that opens an Instant Dungeon.

Location: Abandoned Underground Railway Station, Line 3.

Time Remaining: 23 hours 59 minutes.

His eyes widened slightly. "A dungeon? Inside an abandoned subway?"

He had heard rumors of irregular gates before—stories from drunk hunters in bars who claimed to have stumbled into strange, undocumented portals that the Hunter Association couldn't track. But most of those stories ended in missing persons reports.

Still, his heart thumped faster against his ribs.

*'An E-rank dungeon… could it be something I can handle on my own now?'*

He glanced at his reflection in the dark bedroom window. The eyes staring back at him were sharp and unflinching. The paralyzing fear that used to haunt his every waking moment as the world's weakest hunter was gone.

He closed his fist tightly around the black metal.

"If the System gave it to me… then it's meant to be my next step."

The next morning, after making sure Jinah was safely off to school, Jinwoo left the apartment. He dressed lightly for combat—simple black cargo pants, a breathable black shirt, and a thin windbreaker.

The city was bustling. Office workers rushed past him with coffees, and the sound of morning traffic echoed down the busy Seoul streets. But Jinwoo walked in the opposite direction of the crowds, following the glowing digital marker only he could see.

His steps took him deeper into an older, quieter district, until he finally reached a shuttered subway entrance. It had been sealed off by the city years ago, covered in rusted chains, graffiti, and faded warning signs.

The air inside the stairwell was cold, stagnant, and smelled of wet concrete. Broken fluorescent lights flickered dimly as he descended deeper into the underground.

When he finally reached the desolate, dust-covered train platform, he stopped. He took a deep, steadying breath, reached into his pocket, and pulled out the black key.

The green runes along its surface flared to life, resonating with his mana.

*Click.*

The sound echoed through the empty station, as loud as a gunshot.

The space directly in front of him rippled violently, like a stone dropping into a calm pond.

[ The Key resonates with the surroundings. ]

[ An Instant Dungeon has been created. ]

Right before his eyes, a tear in reality bloomed into existence. A swirling, liquid shadow formed into a rectangular gate, its edges crackling with a faint, eerie blue light.

Jinwoo's pulse quickened.

*"So this… is my very first solo dungeon."*

He hesitated for only a fraction of a second—and then stepped straight through the threshold.

The world twisted. The sounds of the subway vanished, replaced by the suffocating scent of damp earth, moss, and rust. When his vision cleared, he found himself standing in a massive, cavernous tunnel illuminated only by jagged blue crystals protruding from the stone walls.

From deep within the shadows, the guttural, wet growl of a beast echoed toward him.

Jinwoo smiled faintly, his eyes flashing with a cold, predatory light.

With a simple thought, he accessed his inventory, and the grip of a rusted, steel dagger materialized directly into his right hand.

"This time," he whispered to the darkness. "I'm not the weak one anymore."
