Chapter 22 - chapter 22 - Demon Castle Dungeon Key

Jinwoo picked up the crisp, high-end shopping bags, the paper crinkling softly in his grip, and stepped out of his bedroom. The savory scent of the stew was even richer in the hallway, pulling him toward the small kitchen.

Jinah was already setting the table, arranging the steaming bowls of rice and side dishes with practiced ease. When she saw him enter holding the department store bags, she paused, her eyes widening slightly at the logo printed on the side.

"What's that?" she asked, wiping her hands on a towel.

"Just something I picked up on the way home," Jinwoo said, his voice casual as he set the bags down on the edge of the dining table. He nudged them toward her. "Open it."

Jinah looked from the bags to his face, her expression a mix of curiosity and slight hesitation, knowing how tight their budget usually was. But as she reached inside the first bag and pulled out the winter jacket, her breath caught. The fabric was incredibly soft, lined with high-grade insulation that felt practically weightless.

"Oppa... this brand is incredibly expensive," she murmured, tracing the stitching. "You didn't have to—"

"You're always shivering when you leave for school in the mornings," Jinwoo interrupted smoothly, pulling out his chair and sitting down. "I have a new gig with the Association. The pay is good. You don't need to worry about the price tags anymore."

Jinah hugged the jacket to her chest, a radiant, genuine smile lighting up her face. "It's perfect. Thank you."

Then, she noticed the smaller, velvet box resting at the bottom of the second bag. She carefully lifted it out and popped the lid open. The delicate, elegant necklace caught the warm kitchen light, the silver chain shimmering softly.

She looked at him, completely speechless for a moment.

"Just a token of our love," Jinwoo said, his tone softening. "To celebrate things finally looking up for us."

"It's beautiful," she said softly, carefully closing the box and setting it safely aside before walking over to serve the stew. "But seriously, don't spend all your new money in one place. Eat before it gets cold."

Dinner passed in a comfortable, domestic warmth that Jinwoo hadn't felt in years. The food was perfectly seasoned, the atmosphere light. But even as he smiled and listened to Jinah talk about her day, a secondary track in his mind was running at blinding speed, analyzing the notifications that had just permanently altered his trajectory.

Level 24.

The jump in power was undeniable. But what occupied his thoughts completely was the item resting inside his spatial inventory.

Once dinner was finished and the dishes were cleared, Jinwoo returned to the quiet solitude of his room. He sat on the edge of his bed and opened his hand.

"Inventory."

With a faint shimmer of blue light, a heavy, ornate key materialized in his palm. It was forged from a dark, metallic material that felt oddly warm to the touch, adorned with intricate, jagged engravings that seemed to faintly pulse with red energy.

He focused his gaze on it, prompting the System to reveal its details.

[ Item: Demon Castle's Key ]

Rarity: S

Type: Key

Description: A key that allows entry into the Demon Castle.

You may use this key at the Daesung Tower located in Seoul.

Warning: The Demon Castle is a high-level zone. Entry is restricted to players who meet the required strength threshold.

Jinwoo's eyes narrowed as he read the golden text floating above the key.

S-Rank.

Up until now, the highest tier of anything he had interacted with through the System was C-Rank. An S-Rank item meant the dungeon it unlocked would be a completely different breed of nightmare. If he walked into the Demon Castle right now at Level 24, he might be throwing his life away.

But the System had awarded it to him for a specific reason.

Condition Met: Hunter Kill (Self-Defense).

Jinwoo leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, staring at the dark key. The System wasn't just a training program designed to make him stronger against monsters. It was designed to ensure his absolute survival, even if it meant forcing him to execute other humans.

It was a cold, calculating entity. And it had just handed him the keys to a kingdom of experience points.

"Daesung Tower," Jinwoo muttered, closing his hand around the key. The metal bit sharply into his palm.

It was a famous landmark, towering over the city. If the entrance to the Demon Castle was tethered there, it meant the System could overwrite reality in the middle of a populated area without anyone else noticing.

He wasn't ready yet. He knew that with the cold, hard logic of a veteran who had survived by the skin of his teeth for years. He needed a higher level. He needed better gear. He needed to test his newly acquired stat points in a controlled environment before he threw himself into an S-Rank death trap.

With a thought, the key vanished back into his inventory.

Jinwoo walked over to his window, pulling the curtain back slightly. In the distance, cutting through the neon glow of the Seoul skyline, the spire of Daesung Tower reached up into the night sky.

"Soon I will come," Jinwoo promised the glowing skyline because he knows how much dangerous it is.
