Chapter 7 - Seven

SABRINA

I could taste his blood.

It was warm and intoxicating

So much better than alcohol.

It slid down my throat in fast gulps as I savoured each taste, I could feel his pulse faintly thumping against my mouth, he was getting weaker but I didn't stop feasting on him, it was like I had transferred my aggression to him.

I steadied myself. My hands were on his shoulders tightly as I drank from him. This was unlike me, that was usually what my brother Azrael would do, but the pressure and frustration were beginning to make me ruthless.

The man whimpered like a wounded puppy but I didn't care. Finally, I pulled away, letting out a sharp gasp as his body slumped to the grass. I wiped the blood off my lips. My hunger has been satisfied but not my mission.

" Nothing!" I snarled as I scanned every inch of his pale skin, his neck, his chest, his ribs, I tore his clothes apart desperate to find the mark, the tattoo that proved that he had to be the one, but all I saw were meaningless scribbles disguised as tattoos.

Sick!

Another day wasted, another wolf dead for nothing.

When would this ever stop!

"Impressive but not enough!"

Azrael's voice rang across the bayou, I turned to see him leaning against the bark of the tree watching in amusement, I knew he loved seeing me struggle, he was wearing a dark coat as usual, his red eyes glimmering in the dark.

I didn't respond, I forced myself to remain calm. Panicking does nothing.

"Let's talk, where have you been, Sabrina?" He asks moving closer not breaking eye contact.

I didn't respond, I couldn't possibly tell him what I've been up to.

"You have been going on missions without me, that's not fair."

"And now you are here, so quit whining like a child!" I retorted.

"Easy, I'm just concerned."

That's a lie, the only one he cared about was himself.

I cleaned the blood from my lips with the hem of my dress refusing to meet his gaze, I need to look for a plan. One that would actually work.

"Don't you dare ignore me, sister," he began a smile playing on his lips, his gaze fixed on my fingers. "Hmmm… fancy new ring you've got there, what happened to the old one?"

I rolled my eyes in anger and before he could smirk I was on him, my hands roughly gripping his collar slamming his back against the tree trunk with so much speed. I intended to shut him up, so I could think.

"Mind your business, Azrael!" I roared, my fangs flashing.

He raised his hands in fake surrender. " Of course, I will back up, no need to get all fiesty. Like I said, I was just looking out for my big sister!"

He winked at me and I let him go, stepping back totally disgusted now.

He smiled at me, straightening his already rumpled coat, "But the truth is, I'm tired of this. We've been wasting time hunting the wrong wolves for weeks now. I'm sure father's patience is running thin and you know it can't be good."

"So what do you suggest I do?"

"Let's switch it up,"

"How?"

He smirked before dragging out the words. "We move on to plan B."

I glared at him in anger. "No, we are not going with your plan."

"Oh please, it's obvious your plan is a huge fail," his grin widened. " Let's plant explosives in the bayou. Erase the pack in one glorious night. Omegas, pups, everyone would be gone. One fire and all of my father's problems would be gone like the dust in the wind."

I crossed my arms on my chest as I thought about it deeply, it was the easy route, no more endlessly killing just killing one stone with two birds, but,

"No, I won't kill innocent children, that's not war, that's a massacre, they have nothing to do with this!"

His smile turned into a cold frown. "Then you risk losing everything, because if you fail, Father gives your birthright to me. I should be encouraging you to fail."

I swallowed hard, and he smirked again, moving backwards.

" Don't worry, sister, I would never betray you. But in the meantime, I have… other things to attend to. Enjoy your little hunts by the way ." And with that, he vanished, his figure dissolving into the night like smoke.

Maybe he was right, time wasn't on my side and I needed to act fast, but then I won't endanger the life of innocent people, that's not the trait of a queen.

Meanwhile, two days had passed and it was time to reclaim my daylight ring from Artemis.

I've tracked down his girl Cressida, I know where her family stays, one wrong move and they all go down.

As I walked I spotted the small wooden cabin in the distance, my eyes caught the front porch Artemis was already seated as if he was waiting outside for me.

He was wearing a black hoodie and a face cap that made him look like a serial killer.

As soon as he saw me he rose to his feet. I sped across the clearing landing just a few feet away from him. I smiled wickedly flashing my fangs at him but he didn't appear frightened to see me.

"I hope you've got my ring!" I said my voice was laced with sweetness plus mockery.

He opened his palm slowly and something sparked between his fingers. My daylight ring. I try hard not to gasp.

"What do you think?" He said holding it up.

I didn't waste time snatching it from him, sliding it back onto my ring finger. Immediately I felt this satisfaction spread through me. I'd regained my power once again.

He was standing right in front of me. I could see his face clearly now. "You had to get your ass beaten just to get me my ring back? That's bold! I like it!"

He clenched his jaw but he remained calm. "I've given you what you demanded. Now leave my kind in peace."

I chucked softly, moving closer so I could smell him. "We are done when I say we are, you still owe me."

"How? I don't owe you anything lady!" He said roughly.

"You do," I smiled, circling him like he was my prey I was about to devour. " I could tear you into pieces but I won't until you help me find something…. Someone."
