As she ended her statement, she sighed, saying, "Sorry to make you scared. Ruby just hates males. It's just a problem with her view. Alas, how does it feel to be awake after 6 months?"
"6 months," I breathed out, like it didn't shock me. But rather, after seeing that punch which almost seemed to kill me, reality now felt jarringly slow and things mattered less.
I replied finally, "What really happened? I can't remember."
Her blue eyes and golden hair shimmered like the moon in the clouds. I closed my eyes, asking, "Why did you save me? I don't even know you." Before I could finish, she pinched my nose, saying, "You ungrateful... I am the Curse Weaver, you know?"
Oh, okay...
Wait, what!?
"You? Who are you?"
"Curse Weaver. Did you lose your hearing too?"
"I... I was just shocked," Ryn replied, saying, "But still, I haven't served you, nor do I owe you. Why this much? And... and you, why are you helping me from the very start if the dungeon was just training imposed by your servant? What did I even do for you to help me to this extent?"
My throat was shaky, due to the fact that even a calm person like me had gaps in his words, like little sobs without tears.
She chuckled, her eyes expanding a bit as she patted my hair, saying, "I don't know what makes you think like that. Helping someone is a form of self-care."
At the same moment, Ruby entered. Her trembling arms were visible—not too much, but a bit—when the Curse Weaver looked toward her and said, "Ruby, Ruby," in an excited tone, "Why you get angry too much! Be a bit positive."
Ruby replied, her voice carrying agreement, "I... I will take... take care of i-it next time." Her voice was shaky, but it wasn't broken—maybe it was like that by birth.
Still, my body got shivers seeing her. Why am I too calm? I asked myself. Why can't my memory answer me?
The Curse Weaver said to both of us, "Now that Ryn has met Ruby and Ruby has met Ryn, I am going to cook for a bit. And Ruby, don't pop his bubble nor kick his butt. He is like a toddler with a philosopher's mind."
Ruby replied, "I... I... I will try."
With that, the Curse Weaver started to move outside the room with an elegant, steady, and diligent walk until all that was left was Ruby and me.
For the sake of formality and to answer the Curse Weaver, I tried to talk to her—not because I wanted to, but because how could I ignore a request from a girl like the Curse Weaver who healed me for half a year?
I asked, "What's your full name?"
She looked toward me as if I had asked something taboo, in a quiet, dead stare filling the room with nothing but silence. Clenching her fists and biting her lips, she replied,
"Roxana Serford... That is my name. And don't try to be friendly and clingy with me, and I ain't interested in finding out yours."
I whispered to myself in a very low sound, Am I supposed to communicate with an arrogant girl who only tries to play the victim in front of the Curse Weaver? Like... her voice was trembling before, but in front of me, it remains as straight as it can.
Roxana spoke, "At least I wasn't perverted enough to have the power to cast magic and pick up a blanket, but not to wake Master to protect her modesty."
I replied, "My hands were trembling."
She replied, "Oh, so humans start to tremble when they see a beautiful woman?"
I monologued to myself: How did she listen to that whisper and over-sexualize everything? Alas, let's just make it out. I can't continue to defend myself. If she wants to misunderstand, let her.
"Roxana, I apologize for my actions."
She stared at me for a while before replying, "Have I given you permission to say my name? Alas, it is a bit relaxing that a bastard like you has the guts to apologize for their actions."
Finally, I spoke to move the topic around so I wouldn't have to listen to continuous curses and loathing bombarded at me just for existing.
"Rox... I mean, whatever you are... What was that piece of wood in your hand?"
Her tone shifted for a small second when she said, "Oh, a wand... I mean, a wand. It is a tool to direct magic. Like, see, magic users like me, which is mostly projectile, or magic users who don't have a mana core from birth—a wand acts as an extension to help and direct mana."
I nodded in agreement, as what else could I do? Yet the smell of meat, a little frying, and spices could be sensed in the air.
