Chapter 10 - Repercussion

After the two groups, Pigsky, Red, Yellow and Coco, Fenrir, Zena, and Alex made it back to the Sinful Hunters guild hall after their expedition in The Glowing Crypt. They all walked over to the receptionists office.

Fenrir handed the bag of scute parts and the magic medallion over to Pigsky. Group one talked with the receptionist, traded the monster materials, and did some paper work. After a moment of idle chit-chat and the paper work was done, a total of twelve four silver pieces was handed over to Pigsky.

The mission itself was only worth twelve silver pieces, but with the monster part bonus, it doubled the income.

Pigsky walked back over the group and handed Zena six silver. "You might have won our little bet, but what you did was reckless, please never try and do that again."

"Tch."

Zena gave the coins over to Fenrir, who was currently carrying the other silver coins. The group now has forty one silver to their name.

Shortly after these exchanges, David walked through the front doors of the Sinful Hunters guild hall, walked up the stairs, and headed over to the large group standing in front of the receptionists office.

All eyes were glued onto him not only because he was the strongest member of the guild, but also because he was wearing his bright golden armor.

"How did the newbies do?" David asked, addressing Pigsky directly.

"Allow me to explain by making a formal request."

"Oh?" David said, intrigued.

"As a C ranked adventure, and the privileges granted to me by the guild, I would like for the party of Earth to be able to participate in this year's Greed Games." Pigsky said with serious conviction.

"Hmm? My games are only offered to C ranked adventurers and above. This is a big ask."

"Right, however, giv-"

"I love this idea! Everyone enjoys an underdog story. I will allow it." David said with full confidence in this decision.

Pigsky, not even trying to finish his sentence, just looked at David and nodded.

David took a deep breath and boomed his voice, "Everyone, who is ready to participate in this year's Green Games!?

Every adventure in the guild hall yelled in excitement "LETS GOO!"

"The Greed Games will begin in one month from tomorrow, please register and prepare accordingly!"

 "Will do."

 "Yessir!"

"God, how is David so cool?"

"I am so ready for this year's games!"

"These games are the only reason I joined the guild in the first place."

Murmurs from those in the guild hall began to erupt. With swarms of people now standing in line for the receptionists desk waiting to register for this major event.

"I just put Team Earth's and Team Party Rounders names down for the event." The receptionist overheard David and Pigsky's conversation so she went ahead and added their names down on the list of participants.

"Thank you." Fenrir said looking at the receptionist, who was already too busy dealing with the next customer. He then turned back towards David.

What exactly are the 'Greed Games?'" Coco asked, looking weary of David's smile, not seen, but felt through the golden helmet.

"My games vary each year, so I won't go into specifics, but it's just a series of three challenges that, if cleared, grant amazing magical items gold." Greed said with no hint of a lie.

His emphasis was on the word "just" making it seem like the challenges are easier than he lets on. Zena thought but didn't press the issue.

"Since my games take place a month from now, I will do you all the favor and have someone train you." Greed said almost in a sense of pity. "Come back to the guild tomorrow to meet your instructor, I can tell you are all hungry. Go get some rest."

"Right, anything else from us then?" Fenrir asked for clarity, making sure they were good to leave the hall.

"Haha, so formal. Yes you are good to go." Pigsky said before turning back to David and talking to him.

Coco, Alex, Zena, and Fenrir, all left the guild hall and walked the city streets for some dinner to celebrate their first mission together.

They came across a restaurant, it looked like a small cottage, a cozy little white and grey cafe. "This place looks good." Fenrir said, already heading into the door. The group followed behind him.

"Welcome. Pick where you like." A human looking elderly lady with grey hair and wearing a cat apron said with a slow voice.

The group sat at a booth next to a window on the left side of the cafe. They sat the same as they did at the inn. Alex was sitting next to Fenrir and Zena was sitting next to Coco.

"It feels nice to rest our legs!" Alex said excitedly.

"Couldn't agree more." Coco added resting her head on the table.

"That was just a warm up for me." Fenrir said confidently.

"What are you, a monster?" Zena said poking fun at him.

"Then I really would be a wolf."

The group chuckled at the joke, everyone except Zena, then the elderly shop owner walked towards them with menus and water in her hands.

Once they each had water and menus in front of them, the lady walked away giving them a moment to figure out what to order.

Looking over the menu, the group realized that everything this place offered was just different variations of gratin. A popular dish that was similar to a pot pie. A bowl with vegetables, potatoes, cheese, butter, herbs, and creamy sauce. There are variations to this like a seafood, a steak, a desert, and a seasonal gratin.

Once the group was ready they waved over the owner. "What can I get started for you?"

Fenrir asked for the seafood version. Coco asked for the seasonal version. Alex asked for the vegetarian version. And Zena asked for the egg and cheese filled one. The group decided not to order drinks since it costs more money, and water is free.

After ten minutes of sitting, resting, and idle chit chat, the lady came back with everyone's order.

Fenrir received his seafood gratin. Inside of his dish was raw shrimp, lobster meat, fish chunks, tomatoes, salt, bread crumbs, and parsley over the top. The smell alone made him start to drool with excitement since he hasn't had seafood in several months now.

Coco received her seasonal gratin dish. It was currently spring time, so the seasonal version came with a lot of herbs and vegetables including carrots, turnips, onions, zucchini, and green bell peppers. These various vegetables were brought together by goat meat and cheese. Coco didn't think much of the dish, other than it hit most of the major food groups so it would keep her mind and body healthy.

Alex was handed her vegetarian dish. It was the same as Coco's but lacked any meat. Alex isn't a vegetarian, but she missed fresh foods and wanted to get her fill, like she used to back in the elven village. She looked really happy that this grandma's cooking reminded her of home.

Zena received her egg and cheese filled gratin. It was more akin to a soup than a solid dish. It consisted mainly of egg yolk, cheese, and chunks of potatoes placed inside of it. Out of everyone's dishes, Zena's looked like the most out of place.

They each tried one another's dishes and bonded over food. "I like all foods, but I have a deep fear and hatred for pumpkins." Fenrir said to a question that Alex asked.

"You are afraid of … pumpkins?" Zena said mockingly.

"It is an embarrassing story really. When I was younger I fell in a pumpkin patch and my clothes got caught by the vines. For a few hours I was stuck and hundreds of pumpkins just stared blankly at me, like they were going to eat me. I couldn't help but start crying. Ever since then I have had a fear of pumpkins." Fenrir said, bearing his heart out to his party.

"Pfft! Of course they would stare blankly, they are pumpkins. They have no face, hahaha." Alex blurted out, unable to hold back her laughter.

The group continued down this line not letting up from the jokes about pumpkins. Once they finished their food, they paid the two silver for the food, and left the restaurant.

Eventually the group decided to call it a night and headed back to the inn they stayed at last night, "What Ales Ya?"

"Are you guys gonna be regulars?" The dwarven owner asked for clarification.

"Yeah, I think so." Fenrir answered.

"I'll cut ya a deal. Dinner and breakfast, plus free use of the two rooms from last night for ten silver a week."

Fenrir looked over to Coco making sure to take the deal. It wasn't hard math to figure out. It costs five hundred copper per person a night with dinner and breakfast included. For all four of them, it ran two silver a night. Fourteen silver a week.

Saving four silver was huge for newbie adventurers.

"Deal." Coco said with a smile.

The group headed up to their rooms, split the same way they did last night with Coco and Alex to one room and Zena and Fenrir to the other.

They fell asleep ready for the day ahead tomorrow.
