Chapter 7 - Please, Give the Hyuga Clan Some Face!

The Flying Thunder God Technique—a space-time ninjutsu created by the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama—was recorded within the Scroll of Seals.

The Scroll of Seals contained every forbidden jutsu Konoha had ever collected since its founding. It was kept within the Hokage Building, guarded and managed by the Hokage himself.

By principle, only the Hokage had permission to read it.

The Fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato, had obtained the Flying Thunder God Technique by pure chance.

Even as a youth, Minato was already a prodigious ninja. Not long after graduating from the Academy and receiving his forehead protector, he stumbled upon an attempted kidnapping—Cloud-nin trying to abduct the future jinchuriki.

Relying on his extraordinary talent and strength, Namikaze Minato single-handedly rescued Uzumaki Kushina from the hands of the Cloud-nin, earning great merit.

Shortly afterward, Minato became a disciple of Jiraiya. From there, mastering the Flying Thunder God technique, he gradually made his name known throughout the ninja world.

Jiraiya himself had been a student of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, one of the core figures of the so-called "Third's Lineage."

Although Hiashi did not know the full details of the incident, he understood one thing—Minato's access to the Flying Thunder God must have been closely tied to his status as Jiraiya's disciple.

This, in fact, was proven decades later—after all, the clone created from Jiraiya's genetic material, Koji Kashin, successfully assisted Boruto's mentor in learning the Flying Thunder God. Jiraiya himself likely knew of the technique but was unable to wield it.

In the shinobi world, each clan and faction guarded their jutsu fiercely. Without blood relation or a true master—disciple bond, learning another clan's secret arts was virtually impossible.

Though the village ran a Ninja Academy and used a "team system" where a jonin led three genin, in reality, this did not change the way ninjutsu knowledge circulated.

The Academy only taught basic knowledge and the Three Basic Techniques. As for jonin instructors, their duty was mainly to pass down combat experience, not their personal secret arts.

At most, a jonin might occasionally favor a student and privately teach them a family technique—but such cases were rare.

The future "Konoha Twelve" were proof enough of this system.

In Team 7, the protagonist trio—Naruto trained under Jiraiya, Sakura under Tsunade, and only Sasuke learned a secret art—Chidori—from Kakashi.

In Team 3, among Neji, Rock Lee, and Tenten, only Lee inherited Guy's Eight Gates.

As for Team 8's Hinata, Kiba, and Shino—or Team 10's Shikamaru, Choji, and Ino—none learned any special techniques from their mentors, Kurenai or Asuma.

Those few who did—Sasuke and Kakashi, Lee and Guy—had relationships that went beyond "teacher and student." They were true master—disciple pairs.

So, when Satoru now wanted to ask Namikaze Minato to teach him the Flying Thunder God, it was, in some sense, crossing a line.

The Fourth could offer to teach, but to ask directly—that would be impolite. The Hyuga and Minato families were not that close.

As a transmigrator, Satoru lacked sensitivity to such social taboos, but Hiashi certainly understood.

Yet instead of scolding his son, Hiashi lowered his head, deep in thought. Though his training of Satoru was harsh, Hiashi secretly doted on his extraordinarily gifted son—he simply rarely showed it.

Now that Satoru wished to learn the Flying Thunder God Technique, Hiashi began considering whether such a thing could actually be arranged.

After all, if his son could truly master it—combined with the Hyuga clan's secret arts and the Byakugan's Bloodline Limit—Satoru's potential might even surpass that of the Fourth Hokage himself!

"The Fourth is a kind man," Hiashi mused aloud, "but making such a direct request… would be overstepping."

"The Hyuga cannot afford to act without propriety."

Then, his tone shifted.

"However…"

"We may not be able to directly ask the Fourth to teach us the technique, but…"

"Perhaps, by relying on the Hyuga clan's standing, we could request temporary access to the Scroll of Seals…"

Rubbing his chin, Hiashi's eyes gleamed with determination—as though a decision had just been made.

"The Scroll of Seals?!"

Satoru was stunned, caught completely off guard.

He had thought learning the Flying Thunder God from the mild-tempered Namikaze Minato might be feasible. After all, Minato was not a stingy man—he had even trained his personal guards, Genma Shiranui, Iwashi Tatami, and Raido Namiashi, in the Flying Thunder God.

Although those three lacked the talent to use it individually, together they could perform the technique, though nowhere near Minato's effortless level.

But in Hiashi's view, rather than "impolitely" asking the Fourth to share the jutsu, it might be easier to request temporary access to the Scroll of Seals, where the technique was recorded.

Though the Scroll of Seals was meant for the Hokage's eyes only, it was ultimately Konoha's shared heritage. For a great clan like the Hyuga, requesting a short-term loan was not entirely impossible.

And since they were already going to make a request of the Hokage, asking to "borrow the Scroll of Seals" would sound far grander—and could even serve to strengthen ties between the Hyuga and the Hokage.

"Satoru," Hiashi said at last, "I understand your wish to learn the Flying Thunder God. Leave this matter to me—you need not worry about it further."

"For now, focus on mastering our clan's secret arts. I have high expectations for you—don't disappoint me."

"Go on. Your daily training is not yet complete."

With a wave of his hand, Hiashi dismissed his son. Satoru nodded silently and left, not holding much hope for the matter of the Flying Thunder God.

After all, forbidden jutsu were not so easily obtained.

But what Satoru did not know was that, as soon as he left the tearoom and returned to the training yard, Hiashi changed into formal attire, summoned his younger brother Hizashi, gathered several elite branch-family shinobi, and hurried toward the Hokage Building.

Meanwhile, after leaving the Hyuga estate, the Namikaze couple did not return to the Hokage Building with the Third Hokage.

With Kushina's delivery approaching, Minato's top priority was caring for her. As for official Hokage duties, Hiruzen Sarutobi kindly took over most of them.

For that, the Namikaze couple were sincerely grateful.

Inside the Hokage's office, Hiruzen Sarutobi sat behind his desk, surrounded by piles of paperwork. He slowly took out his pipe, lit a match, and inhaled a few deep puffs.

Wisps of blue smoke curled upward as Hiruzen glanced around the familiar office, unchanged since his time in power. A faint smile crept onto his face, tinged with satisfaction.

In the final stages of the Third Shinobi War, border skirmishes occurred constantly. Even for the Hokage, there was no shortage of work to handle. After a short rest, Hiruzen once again buried himself in administrative reports.

Though Hiruzen had always possessed a strong desire for control, his handling of official matters was swift and decisive. Perhaps his reluctance to relinquish power to the young Fourth Hokage stemmed simply from a deep-rooted sense of distrust.

No one knew how much time had passed before a knock came at the office door.

"Come in," Hiruzen said, rubbing his tired face.

Without waiting for an attendant's announcement, the door opened, and Hyuga Hiashi entered with eight neatly dressed Hyuga shinobi in tow.

Seeing the man behind the desk, Hiashi paused momentarily, then quickly regained composure. Bowing slightly, he smiled and began his introduction:

"Third Hokage-sama, these are the Hyuga shinobi I have selected to assist the ANBU in the guard detail."

"This is my brother, Hyuga Hizashi. And these are Hyuga Daiki, Hyuga—"

After introducing each of them in turn, Hiashi faced Hiruzen once more.

Listening attentively, Hiruzen nodded approvingly and said with a smile:

"As expected of you—efficient as always! You've already chosen your men, and even came personally."

"On behalf of Minato and Kushina, I thank the Hyuga clan for your assistance."

With a courteous nod, Hiruzen approached Hiashi and lightly patted his arm in a gesture of familiarity.

"Hehe, it's only proper," Hiashi replied. "In fact, there's… another small favor I must ask."

"Third Hokage-sama, considering all the service and contributions the Hyuga have made to Konoha over the years…"

"…may I request permission for our clan to borrow the Scroll of Seals for a short time?"

The words came out direct and unvarnished—Hiashi had no talent for negotiation.

For a brief moment, both Hiruzen and the Hyuga shinobi behind him froze in stunned silence.
