Chapter 45 - Entering the P1 Grand Prix! Another Battle Evolution—Primeape’s Fierce Assault!

In the Black World—

Ash had decided—he was going to enter the P1 Grand Prix. Despite its name, the tournament wasn't limited to Fighting-type Pokémon. In fact, it was essentially a regular Pokémon battle.

Ash couldn't understand—if any Pokémon could enter, why call it a "Fighting Championship"? Just because it's held in a boxing ring? He didn't get it, but whatever—he'd already decided to sign up with Mankey. He hadn't had Mankey for long—barely ten days since catching him.

And even back then, Mankey had already been on the verge of evolving. Now, he was just one step away. Ash wanted him to evolve in battle—for a Fighting-type Pokémon, that was the best way to evolve! As luck would have it, the opportunity had presented itself perfectly. Even better—the P1 Grand Prix's prize wasn't just a golden championship belt, but also a generous cash reward! For Ash, whose wallet was running dangerously low, this was nothing short of a miracle.

Brock, inspired by his usual "romantic motivations," also decided to enter. So the two dove into intense training, while Misty took charge of logistics—buying food, fetching water, and making sure they stayed alive during training. In truth, Misty had always played that role in the team—a support member alongside Brock, ensuring Ash could focus entirely on his Pokémon.

Ash was deeply grateful to both of them. With their help, his training efficiency skyrocketed. Three days passed in the blink of an eye. The group arrived at the P1 Grand Prix Stadium, where the stands were packed to capacity. Ash was stunned. He'd never even heard of this tournament before—yet it had drawn such a massive crowd! Scanning the other contestants, he quickly spotted Anthony.

But almost immediately, something else caught his attention. He turned toward one particularly massive competitor—the one called "The Giant." True to his name, the man was huge. But that wasn't what drew Ash's attention— he sensed two Aura signatures coming from the man's body! No, not one man… two.

And those Aura signatures were very familiar. "Team Rocket… again?! Do they have to stick their noses into everything?" Which raised the obvious question—if they were here, where was the real Giant? Ash extended his Aura senses further, and sure enough—he picked up another presence in the bathroom. The pieces clicked into place instantly.

Those three idiots were up to their usual tricks. "Pikachu." "Pika?" "Head to the restroom—someone's tied up in there.

Free them. Then zap the fake Giant sky-high." "Pika pika!" Pikachu nodded smartly, leapt from Ash's shoulder, and slipped away without another sound. He didn't really understand the details—but following Ash's orders was always the right move.

[Lance: Aura powers are so useful! If I had them, I could level up my battling and my crime-fighting in one go!]

[Korrina: Me too! If I had Aura, Riolu and I would be totally in sync! He'd evolve into Lucario in no time!]

[Chuck: Heh, envy won't get you anywhere. That kind of gift's all about talent!]

Psychic power could be honed through training and mental discipline, but Aura mastery—that was something else entirely. No known method existed for training it systematically. Black Ash's Aura had only grown slowly, as a side effect of his physical training.

[Ash: Then I'll start training every day too! If the other me awakened Aura through training, I can too!]

In the end, Black Ash's Aura awakening had been a bit of an accident. Still, it was worth trying.

In the Black World—

Thanks to Ash's quick thinking, Team Rocket's trio were promptly exposed and sent flying out of the stadium. The brief commotion threw the arena into chaos, until the organizers came forward to explain— the "Giant" who'd been blasted off was actually an impostor.

The real Giant soon appeared on stage, and the competition resumed. There were only eight contestants total—so getting into the semifinals didn't take much effort. The matchups were: Ash vs. Brock, and Anthony vs. the Giant. In the end, Ash and Anthony advanced to the finals. Anthony laughed. "Didn't expect the kid I met on the road to be such a strong Trainer!" Ash's reply was sharp.

"I didn't expect the man I met on the road to be someone who'd abandon his family just to chase his own ambition." Anthony froze—that single line stabbed right into the wound he most wanted to forget. "Enough talk! Let's battle! Your Mankey might be tough, but it's nothing compared to my Hitmonchan!" "Then let's see about that."

At Anthony's command, Hitmonchan lunged forward with lightning speed! In terms of power and overall strength, Hitmonchan clearly had the edge. But Mankey was faster, more agile—able to dodge and weave with unpredictable movements. The two traded blows in a fierce deadlock. Still, if things kept going like this, Mankey would lose. He simply didn't have the stamina of an evolved Pokémon.

Ash's eyes glimmered blue—Aura flickering faintly within. "Left hook incoming! Dodge low and hit back with Cross Chop!" Mankey reacted instantly—ducking under the oncoming punch and slamming both hands down in a powerful X-shaped strike! The attack hit squarely, sending Hitmonchan flying across the ring! Anthony's eyes widened. He hadn't expected Ash to predict his attack pattern so precisely.

But what happened next stunned him even more— Mankey began to glow. Brilliant light enveloped his body as he grew larger, muscles bulging and aura flaring! When the light faded, standing in his place was— Primeape! "He—he evolved?! In the middle of the match?!" Anthony could hardly believe it. Ash, however, didn't even blink. He immediately shouted his next command.

"Now—Close Combat!" Primeape blurred forward like a living storm—his fists and legs turning into relentless weapons, hammering Hitmonchan again and again! By the time Anthony snapped out of his shock, his partner was already battered and motionless—completely unable to fight back.

The result was undeniable. Ash had won.
