"Chu-lu-lu."

Lopunny was still searching for her target when the pale-teal figure flickered behind her like a ghost.

Psychic.

Gardevoir lifted one snow-white hand. A surge of violet-pink force detonated with a keening gale and roared toward Lopunny.

"Chu-lu-lu."

By instinct, Lopunny glanced back. In that heartbeat, her graceful silhouette winked out of sight.

Boom.

A tree crashed down where she had stood. Ten meters away, Lopunny reappeared, breath quick but eyes bright.

Interesting. She had copied Gardevoir's movement to evade.

[Copycat: Mimics the opponent, using the move last performed.]

Noah blinked, impressed by her split-second judgment. Without any Trainer's call, she had found a solution on instinct alone. Given time, this little one's battle sense would not be inferior to Gardevoir's.

Unlike the four-move limit in the games, real battles were not turn based. With smart move usage, clear situational reads, and a little bond between partners, even a seemingly weaker Pokémon could sometimes challenge the strong.

As people liked to say, there were no useless Pokémon, only careless Trainers.

Well, except maybe sending a Caterpie straight at Arceus.

"Gardevoir, Telekinesis Art. Pin her."

Noah admired Lopunny's reaction, but the power gap was wide. Overwhelming force was the simplest path.

"Chu-lu-lu."

Lopunny had just felt relief when a wash of violet-pink light wrapped her from head to toe and held her fast.

She struggled, cheeks flushing, but Gardevoir rose lightly into the air as well, eyes serene.

"Moonblast."

At Noah's word, Gardevoir crossed her arms at her chest. A dim azure aura breathed out around her. For a heartbeat, even the farm felt still. Noon light dulled, the blue sky taking on a silver sheen. A pale full moon seemed to float across the sun, bathing the fields in liquid light.

Gardevoir's eyes snapped open, pupils molten-gold. Moonlight gathered above and poured down in a cascade like crystal rain.

The phantom moon burst into star-dust. Sunlight returned.

"Go, Poké Ball."

Click.

The ball rocked once, twice, three times, and stilled.

"Chu-lu-lu..."

The newly caught Lopunny slumbered, breathing softly.

In sleep, she felt a warm hand gently rubbing her head and, by reflex, snuggled closer to the Trainer's embrace. Heat lingered under her fur, the afterglow of battle and a strange new energy.

"Gardevoir, did you feel this when you first learned to transform?" Noah asked, puzzled, glancing at the pale-teal figure.

"Sha."

Gardevoir tilted her head. "Perhaps she needs a firmer nudge to stabilize her new form," she suggested calmly.

"Let me try."

Noah brushed a fingertip over Lopunny's cheek. Her long ears quivered. Thanks to the system's blessing, she had unconsciously shifted into a humanoid form while dozing, a flustered bunny girl bundled in his arms. She stirred, blinking awake, face flushing as awareness caught up with her.

"Trainer, you are terrible," she murmured, half shy, half complaining.

"It took a bit to wake you. Emergency methods for an emergency," Noah joked, then gentled his tone. "Welcome to the farm, Lopunny."

Gardevoir nodded a cordial greeting. Lopunny ducked her head, ears drooping with bashful delight.

"Back to work."

"Sha." "Chu-lu-lu."

"Gardevoir, Telekinesis Art."

Gardevoir raised her hand. Psychic blades threaded the weed bed. With clean, quick snicks, clumps toppled in rows. Noah followed behind, gathering the cut growth into piles. In short order, the last thickets were gone.

"Whew."

He wiped a sheen of sweat from his forehead and straightened his back. Being a farm owner was honest labor. Still, the reclaimed plots looked good. Next up was turning the soil.

Good thing he had just recruited the perfect helper.

"Lopunny, I am counting on you."

"Chu-lu-lu."

She nodded with bright confidence.

Noah pointed across the broad field. "All right, Lopunny. Use Rototiller."

[Rototiller: Turns the earth to help plants grow. Also raises the Attack and Sp. Atk of Grass types on the field]
