CHAPTER 0.04: THE REAPER ACADEMY

When humanity first accepted the Reapers as real, fear ruled the world. Nations, unable to control them, created a pact under the watchful eye of the Reaper Council — the ancient organization that has quietly governed reaperkind for over a millennium.

Out of that pact came the Academies — sacred institutions built to train, study, and regulate the next generation of Reapers.

Though there are dozens scattered across the world, only seven are recognized by the Council as official academies. The story of Grim Reapers: Descendant of the Absolute begins in one of them — the Reaper Academy of Izanami, the most prestigious on the continent.

Duration and Trials

Unlike human education systems, Reaper Academies last only one year.

One year of brutal, sleepless, soul-breaking training — enough to determine whether a student becomes a certified Reaper or dies trying.

Students face four major examinations, each one deadlier than the last

Graduation isn't determined by scores — it's determined by survival.

Structure of the Academy

The Academy resembles both a temple and a military base. Stone archways tower above steel combat arenas, each engraved with ancient death runes that hum when Quirks are unleashed.

Each division is led by an Instructor-Class Reaper, all Level 2 or higher, and overseen by the Academy's Head Reaper, a Level 1 whose power alone maintains the academy's barrier against stray spirits.

Reaper Bonds and Rivalries

Life inside the Academy is unpredictable. Some students come from ancient Reaper bloodlines, others are street orphans who unlocked their Quirk by accident.

Social hierarchies are vicious — lineage, wealth, and level decide everything.

However, true strength ignores blood. Many of the world's greatest Reapers were born as outcasts.

Still, to befriend or rival someone inside the Academy can define one's fate forever — because Reaper teams are often formed based on academy connections.

For students like Eiden, Renji, Kendo, and Sena, these friendships and rivalries aren't just school bonds — they're the foundations of their future battles, and in some cases, their eventual deaths.

Graduation and Certification

Upon completing all four Trials, survivors are marked with a Death Sigil, an ancient tattoo burned into the chest over the heart.

This sigil binds their soul to the Nether Veil permanently — granting them permission to use their Quirk in public, to join reaper agencies, and to bear the title of Certified Reaper.

The Academy is where legends are born — and where countless more are buried.

It is the crucible that forges every Reaper's beginning… and sometimes, their end.
