Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Evil Squadron? × Velociraptor

It was a very small Dinosaur, not even a real Dinosaur, but a plastic toy Dinosaur, the kind of Dinosaur model many people played with when they were children.

However, at this moment, the Dinosaur models were no longer rigid.

They moved as if they had been given life, and when Ivan poked his head out, they no longer hid their calls.

It was Nen Ability!

Trouble!

Ivan calculated in his mind; he actually had several options.

First, surrender directly.

It wasn't a true surrender, but rather using the moment the opponent grabbed him to make physical contact with their body.

The Scary Monsters's Nen Ability, besides allowing him to enter a Dinosaur-like state, could also turn any living being he injured into a Dinosaur, even a slight scratch, or even small things like fleas or mice; mere touch was enough to complete the Dinosaur transformation.

But Ivan immediately rejected this option.

Because this option had two drawbacks.

First, The Grateful Dead on his body would likely make the opponent act cautiously towards him; if the opponent chose a non-contact method of capture, he would have no way to deal with them.

Especially after seeing that the opponent could control toy Dinosaurs, the possibility of non-contact capture was maximized.

Second, the Dinosaur transformation of the target might require time, especially when dealing with people with strong mental power. It might not be an instant transformation upon injury.

Judging by Gyro and Johnny's Dinosaur transformation speed in the manga, Ivan felt that reserving 1 to 5 minutes for Nen users would be safer.

In other words, within these 1 to 5 minutes, the opponent could perceive their own changes and take corresponding countermeasures.

Ivan felt that the probability of the opponent directly killing him was over fifty percent.

So, the only option left for Ivan was to directly resolve the situation.

Nen Nen Ability, starting from the cultivation of 'Emanation', can be broadly divided into six major categories.

Enhancement, which enhances the inherent properties of oneself or other objects; Emission, which releases Nen outside the body and maintains its power even at a great distance; Manipulation, which injects one's Nen into a target to control it; Transmutation, which can change the nature and shape of Nen; Materialization, which can materialize Nen into real objects or substances; and Specialization, which is a unique Nen Ability not included in the five categories.

In battles, the most important thing for Nen users is to gather information about their opponent.

Just like now, from observation, Ivan could deduce that the opponent specialized in either Manipulation or Materialization.

If it was Manipulation, then the opponent's small Dinosaurs were likely purchased and carried, which would be more convenient; by injecting Nen into the purchased models, they could be controlled, but the quantity would be somewhat limited.

If the opponent specialized in Materialization, then their small Dinosaurs would be continuously available, as their Nen could constantly create model Dinosaurs; however, Materialization users might have some flaws in controlling the small Dinosaurs.

From the flexible movements of the toy Dinosaurs as they rapidly approached, their vivid expressions, and the piercing screams they could emit at any time, it could be judged that the opponent's control over the toy Dinosaurs was extremely precise.

Therefore, the opponent was most likely an Manipulation user.

And Manipulation users, according to the Renshan style of cultivation, would often have some achievements in Emission as well.

Because the two systems adjacent to Manipulation are Emission and Specialization, but Specialization cannot be cultivated casually.

In summary, the opponent was most likely using Manipulation in conjunction with Emission, which means these approaching small Dinosaurs might launch long-range attacks!

And putting aside the analysis from the perspective of Nen Ability, as someone who had read the first eight parts of the JoJo manga, Ivan also knew of a Stand very similar to the opponent's Nen Ability: Bad Company

The Grateful Dead controlled soldiers, and even armed helicopters, and its most effective attack method was long-range attacks!

However, long-range attacks weren't too much of a threat to Ivan, because as long as he maintained a certain distance, he was confident he could dodge all of the opponent's Nen Bullet attacks.

Now, the only problem bothering him was whether The Grateful Dead wrapped around him could block the opponent's attacks.

It's a long story, but all these choices and judgments were made in the instant Ivan poked his head out from behind the stone pillar and saw the small Dinosaurs.

His movements showed no hesitation.

His head, which had poked out, did not retreat to hide; instead, his whole body emerged from behind the stone pillar, and in an instant, his tail grew, and his legs transformed.

The tensed muscles in his legs tore through his blood-stained jeans, and the burst of strength allowed Ivan to accelerate instantly after emerging from behind the stone pillar.

He seemed to ignore the approaching toy Dinosaurs, but in reality, his vertical pupils were fixed on every change on the field.

His incredibly strong dynamic vision allowed him to clearly see the mouths of every toy Dinosaur open after his appearance, and the Nen gradually condensing within their mouths.

As he had expected, these toy Dinosaurs had an Emission attack mode.

However, this situation, which he had already judged, did not worry him; instead, it made him feel at ease and relieved.

What truly worried him was the other person besides the one controlling the toy Dinosaurs.

The other person had not displayed any Nen Ability, but they were definitely not an ordinary person; this could be judged from the conversation he had overheard earlier.

Their conversation used an equal tone, not a commanding tone characteristic of a superior to a subordinate.

Of course, this judgment might not be accurate.

Most importantly, he judged from the opponent's expression when they saw him that they recognized him.

And recognizing him yet choosing not to stop meant only one possibility: the opponent was an enemy!

Even though he had already made this judgment when he heard the opponent's voice, Ivan, being meticulous, still needed more evidence to verify his conjecture.

As he rushed forward, he saw the young man with the toy Dinosaurs on him take a slight step back, yielding the space in front of him to his companion with black hair and a suit.

A well-fitted suit, paired with a meticulously groomed slicked-back hair, but in the next second, a scene of clothes bursting appeared in front of Ivan.

Bulging muscles, accompanied by a burst of Nen—this was the opponent's choice when facing Ivan's charge in his half-Dinosaur form.

Enhancement.

This was the first thought in Ivan's mind as he got closer.

Also, the fragments of the opponent's bursting clothes struck him, giving him a feeling of being cut by a small knife.

The clothes were torn, but his skin was not cut. From this, he could deduce that while The Grateful Dead was wrapped around him, it had no defensive properties; his skin not being cut was entirely due to his own defense being strengthened after his Dinosaur transformation.

There was no time for Ivan to think further, because with his explosive speed, he had already arrived in front of the opponent.

Velociraptor.

This was the Dinosaur species of Ivan's Dinosaur transformation.

This carnivorous Dinosaur, known as the "swift robber," had thick leg muscles and forelimbs that were not short compared to a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

In his half-Dinosaur form, Ivan's vertical pupils clearly saw the opponent's swinging fist, and even the twitching of every muscle when the opponent exerted force was crystal clear.

Having confirmed that Death Nen had almost no defensive power, Ivan chose not to clash head-on, but instead used the Velociraptor's agility combined with his extremely strong dynamic vision to dodge.

Being able to see every one of the opponent's movements, he did not extend his sharp claws; instead, he suddenly put strength into his legs, stopping not far in front of the opponent, and at the same time, twisted his body and swung his thick, long tail.

Bang!

A solid thud sounded.

It wasn't just one sound, but two. The first was Ivan's tail striking the opponent's chest, and the second was the opponent quickly changing tactics and punching his tail.

The immense force made Ivan's body slightly unsteady, but his leg muscles bulged, and his large, clawed feet sharply dug into the ground, keeping his body perfectly still.

The bursting-clothed youth, whom he had struck, however, retreated several steps backward while delivering a punch.

Ivan's pupils constricted, because just as his body stabilized, Nen Bullets were already shooting towards his position from behind.

Without time to check on the bursting-clothed youth, Ivan's body rapidly dodged like a pendulum.

The Nen Bulletss shot from the mouths of the toy Dinosaurs were all aimed at his vital points, but their speed, under Ivan's super dynamic vision, was not fast at all; it could even be called slow.

Combined with his extremely strong motor skills, dodging these Nen Bullets was no challenge for him at all.
