Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

The night passed without incident until Logan returned home to rest.

Under Chris's arrangement, the warehouse security was almost comparable to that of the White House, leaving Logan with no new opportunity to act.

The entire night was remarkably silent; perhaps Steve and his team did not receive the signal, or maybe they did, but decided to wait for reinforcements.

In any case, Logan did not witness the conflict he had envisioned.

Logan could only watch and wait for a new opportunity.

Several days passed.

During this time, Logan received no further calls from Chris. The Lawrence family clearly remained wary of him; after adding enough guards, they stopped assigning him tasks, and everything returned to its former tranquility.

Previously, Logan had to work tirelessly for money, driving like an Uber day and night, but now his wealth was sufficient, allowing him to spend more time at home chatting with the Professor and providing him with more attentive care. This slightly improved the Professor's mood.

Although the situation seemed calm on the surface, Logan sensed that the Lawrence family was in serious trouble.

When he went into Santa Fe to buy supplies, he noticed that the streets were much less crowded than usual. The previously bustling streets had been unusually quiet these past few days, and even reports of robberies on the news had decreased.

Logan also noticed that all Lawrence properties (hotels, factories, and various logistics warehouses) were heavily guarded and patrolled. Ordinary people couldn't even get close to the warehouses; in severe cases, guards would simply pull out their weapons and chase them away.

With such a large-scale operation, Logan was sure that the Lawrence family was overwhelmed with problems, and the entire family was on high alert.

An atmosphere of tension permeated the entire city of Santa Fe.

Although Logan was also curious about the Lawrence family's troubles, he didn't ask anyone. He didn't want to get involved, and besides, the more chaotic the Lawrence family's situation, the better. A chaotic environment would provide him with more opportunities to escape.

After several days in this tense atmosphere, Logan finally found an opportunity on his way home after shopping.

Previously, after Chris discovered he lived in the old factory area, there were more pedestrians and parked cars around the area. Undoubtedly, these were all spies from the Lawrence family.

Now, however, all these spies had disappeared without a trace, and the area around the factory had returned to its previous desolate state.

Logan even circled the factory several times to observe the surroundings, finally confirming that everyone had withdrawn.

A sudden sense of relief washed over him; it seemed the Lawrence family was truly in distress.

The escape plan could now be put on the agenda.

Ding-dong.

His phone suddenly received a message. Logan picked it up and saw it was from Samuel: "James, where are you?"

"At home. What? Another mission?" Logan replied.

"No," Samuel quickly responded. "I guess Chris won't be able to assign us missions for a while. He's in serious trouble right now."

"—What do you mean? Was it just an attack on the warehouse? Just add more guards, right? Besides, the weapons weren't lost. It's not a big problem for the Lawrence family, is it?"

Logan wanted to elicit information from Samuel, but he didn't ask directly. He wanted Samuel to tell him himself.

"It's not about the warehouse," Samuel, in fact, proactively revealed the information. "It's the government. It seems they have offended them, and now the government is investigating the Lawrence family. They seem to be putting a lot of pressure on them. It probably won't be resolved soon."

Before Logan could respond, Samuel sent another text message. "We've worked for Chris before, so I don't know if this will affect us, but it's always good to be careful right now, especially since you... Anyway, watch out for the authorities."

Logan knew he was reminding him not to be found by the authorities. After all, the name Wolverine was still on the most-wanted list. "Thanks, I'll be careful."

Logan replied to the message and quickly hung up the phone.

He suddenly realized this was the perfect opportunity to leave!

The Lawrence family was entangled in numerous issues, and some powerful forces were secretly lurking after their lucrative assets. They had to deal with the authorities and, at the same time, be careful not to have their businesses devoured by other forces during this time.

It was easy to imagine that Mr. Lawrence and Chris were overwhelmed and had no time to deal with him, Wolverine.

It was the best time to escape!

With that thought, Logan quickly drove home.

As soon as he entered, he told Caliban, who was preparing lunch: "Drop that, pack your bags, and go find the Professor."

Caliban was stunned, watching Logan packing in the living room, and asked confusedly: "What? Is your boss moving us somewhere else?"

"No." Logan shook his head, still searching for things they might need during their escape, and said without looking up: "We're ditching the Lawrence family tonight and leaving here."

Caliban was a little bewildered, and after confirming he hadn't misheard, he asked in surprise: "Seriously?"

He was very concerned about his safety and hated that Chris and his group had found his address; he felt like a gun was pointed at his head, with the possibility of being blown away at any moment.

He simply didn't expect the day he could get rid of all this to come so soon, so suddenly.

"Mmhmm." Logan nodded. "The Lawrence family is in serious trouble; they don't have time for us right now."

"I've had enough of this place! You won't regret this decision!"

Caliban dropped his cooking utensils, his face beaming with excitement. "I'll get ready right away; I can have everything packed in half an hour!"

"No rush." Logan grabbed his wallet. "I need to go to the bank first."

He had almost all his money on his card and needed to withdraw everything.

After all, if he was fleeing, this card could be suspended for various reasons, and even if it wasn't, Chris could easily find his location through his transaction records.

Using cash would save him a lot of trouble.

With that, Logan rushed to the nearest bank, withdrew all the money from his card, and quickly returned to his car. He pulled out his phone, looked up Gabriela's number, and sent her a message to get ready; they could meet that night.

However, as soon as he sent the message, his phone instantly rang; it was Gabriela calling.

Looking at the constantly vibrating phone, Logan hesitated for a moment. They had always communicated via text message, never by phone.

That sudden ring made him slightly uneasy. He hesitated before pressing the answer button and said in a low voice: "Hello?"

"Logan, you really disappoint me."

Donald's voice came through the phone, accompanied by the painful groans of a woman desperately crying out: "Wolverine, save me and Laura!"
