It was night. The neighborhood environment had returned to normal. Saru was sitting in his room, lost in deep thought. Maya the Spirit was idly fiddling with his school books.
Maya (To Saru): "You look tense about something."
Saru didn't respond. Just then, his mother's voice called out: "Dinner is ready, eat up, son."
Saru answered with a "Yes" and went to the kitchen to get his meal. His mother, Reena, was now less upset than before. She had been worried about the day's events.
Since Reena's mood was better, Saru sought to reassure her.
Saru (Softly, trying to reconcile): "Mom, are you still mad at me? I promise I won't make such a mistake again."
How long can a mother stay mad at her son? She smiled and said: "No, I'm not angry. I was just hurt that you lied to me."
Saru convinced his mother that he would never lie to her again. He then took his food and returned to his room, where Maya was still messing with his textbooks.
Saru spoke in a very quiet, suppressed voice: "Detective Kwen came right to our house today. Going forward, their eyes will be on us. Therefore... we will never speak to each other."
Just then, Reena's voice came from the hall: "Did you need something, son? You said something?"
Saru controlled his panic and said a little louder: "No, Mom! I was just... complimenting the food!"
Saru again looked at Maya with an extremely low voice.
Maya (Angrily): "So you don't want to find the Threshold? Or... do you want me to eliminate the Detective first?"
Saru (Explaining to Maya): "No. We need to understand each other using Gestures and Eye Language. If you can master the language of the eyes, half our problems will be solved."
Maya's scary form became slightly more normal.
Maya: "Eye Language? What do you mean? And Gestures—meaning talking by moving hands, fingers, and shrugging shoulders?"
Saru said "Yes" and showed Maya with an unambiguous gesture: "This means Yes. And this means No. This means We must do this. This means This must not be done."
A long discussion ensued between the two about understanding the Gesture and Eye Language. Saru was surprised to find that Maya was far more expert at understanding sign language than he was.
The next five days of Saru's school life passed peacefully. Meanwhile, Saru and Maya became quite proficient in the Gesture Language. They communicated everything to each other through gestures, hand movements, or even pupils of the eye.
Sunday arrived. Maya was quite excited that Saru was finally going to reveal the plan to find the Threshold.
Reena cooked breakfast and left for her job at the restaurant. Only Saru and Maya were left at home.
Maya (In gestures): ("So, you were going to tell me how we can find the Threshold?")
Saru closed his book and said calmly: "To find the Threshold, we will have to go to horror spots all over the world. And we'll need to collect data on paranormal activity and the fear index there. For that, we need—money. And that's what we don't have."
Before Saru could finish, Maya interrupted him: "What do you mean by money? The notes you use for transactions?"
Saru: "Yes, those notes. You can see the condition of my house. We only have two bulbs here. We don't even have a decent TV. Everything my mother earns is spent on my education."
Maya interrupted Saru again: "So what! We'll just rob a bank! You have no idea of my power."
Saru: "We can't do that. First, there's high-tech security and CCTV, and second, it's illegal."
Maya made her form slightly terrifying and said: "Then we'll 'eliminate' a random person and rob them!" Saying this, a creepy smile appeared on Maya's face.
Saru and Maya's bond was now quite strong. Any other person would have had a heart attack from her creepy smile.
Saru (Shaking his head): "No! Doing that will put the police and detectives right back on our tail. We have to earn money legitimately. And for that, I have a brilliant idea!"
Hearing this, Maya stretched her arm. Her arm grew longer than three meters, and she placed her hand on Saru's shoulder.
Saru placed his hand on Maya's extended hand and said: "You told me that you came from the Spirits Realm, and that all the spirits of this world are very weak compared to your power."
Saru revealed his plan: "We will now open a YouTube channel and upload 'Ghost Hunting' videos on it. Through this, without attracting the notice of the police, we can legitimately travel to every terrifying place in the world."
Maya laughed a spooky laugh and said: "As far as I know, something like YouTube runs on a device. And you don't have that device." (Here, 'device' means a mobile phone.)
Saru (Seriously): "I hope my mother has some savings, and I am also going to receive a scholarship from school next month. So, we will buy a phone, and after that, we will begin—The Ghost Hunt!"
