Chapter 5 - Rebirth (5)

You see, the late Duchess died giving birth to the fourth young master. At the time, His Grace and the eldest Young masters were out to fight the monsters invading the border villages of the territory and couldn't get back in time to be with the Duchess.

Only the third Young master stayed back because the Duchess didn't want him to witness violence at such a young age. The Young master wanted to accompany the Duchess as well. He was also present in the delivery room speaking encouraging words to her and had heard her last words.

"....Mikhail, honey, promise me that.....that you will take care of your younger brother and.....love your family unconditionally...." The Duchess said between laborious pants holding on to the Young master's arms so tightly that her nails dug into his skin spewing trails of blood.

"Yes mom! I promise!" The Young master replied with tears streaked cheeks.

In spite of doing all that they could, the healers, doctors and midwifes were unable to save the Duchess.

This news devastated the Duke who loved the Duchess very much. He despised the child who took his beloved's life and almost killed the baby in his anger.

The Young master who was only eleven at the time protected the baby and reiterated the wish of the late Duchess.

This enraged the Duke very much. The Young master was taking the side of the very beast that killed his mother. It made the Duke hate him even more than he hated the baby and since then, the Duke's hatred seemed to have only grown.

The other Young masters took up an indifferent attitude towards this youngest brother of theirs, ignoring his presence like air.

In this way, the Young master managed to save his youngest brother's life but it came at the cost of his relationship with his other family members.

When the fourth Young master was little, he didn't even have a personal nanny or maid which cared for him so this responsibility was taken up by the Young master. He personally washed, clothed and fed him for fear that a new nanny would abuse him to satisfy the duke.

And until now, he still cared for them even after all that he was put through.

It was a quirk of his young master, to never break any promises and to never make any promises that he couldn't keep. If he made a promise then he would follow through with it until the end no matter the consequences he would face.

In a way, this quirk of his had led him to live a rather sad life. All he ever wanted was his family's approval and love but it appeared to be impossible to obtain in this lifetime.

Remembering his circumstances made Sebastian want to cry even more. His Young master gave his all to these people yet could not even receive the most simple "Thank you" or "You did well".

If his Young master succumbed to his illness, it would be the fault of these heartless people who ignored his desperate pleas to get them to invite High Priest Erix to heal his Young master.

And he would make sure that they regret it. No matter what it was that he had to do, he would make sure to send these ingrates to his Young master to accompany him in the afterlife.

There was cold glint in Sebastian's tear filled eyes as he hatefully imagined all the gruesome ways he could make them pay.

And so after a few long hours eventually passed, High Priest Erix finally finished healing Mikhail. With a sweat drenched back, the High Priest fell back, exhaustion evident on his face.

Seeing this, Davian and the other 5-6 followers surrounded the High Priest carefully tending to him and giving him a healing as well.

"Why didn't you call us earlier? Any longer and we would have lost him." The High Priest said in a weary voice.

At this question, Sebastian could only hold his head down feeling an overwhelming sense of frustration and powerlessness.

The High Priest seemingly remembering the identity of the person he had just brought back to life felt helpless and embarrassed.

"Next time don't wait till he had one foot in the grave before contacting us. Just use his name and we'll come."

He chided the visibly frustrated butler with a sigh knowing full well that if it was up to the butler he would have gone to get the pope instead of him but because of his master's awkward identity he had to suppress his emotions.

This child was the third heir to one of the Empire's founding families yet he almost lost his life just because his father did not want to contact us.

He's good child who has lived a hard life so far.

'I do not have the right to teach his father how to raise a child but at least I can help him by coming when he needs me.'

"Thank you Your Excellency, I will make sure to contact you if something similar happens in the future. I will urge the Young master to give a generous donation to the church of Sephtis."

Sebastian was extremely grateful towards the High Priest for this permission as it meant even without the having to beg the Duke, he himself can call him if any unexpected situation arises.

"No need, no need. Do we look like we're lacking in money?" The High Priest said in an annoyed tone.

"Of course not Your Excellency, This is simply because we're grateful for your help."

Sebastian said with tear streaked cheeks but with a contrastingly beautiful smile.
