Chapter 122 - Chapter 122: God's Mural

Lin Mo didn't linger. He silently controlled "Little King" to infiltrate the tunnel leading deeper underground.

This tunnel was different from the previous passages; its rock walls were rough, covered in eerie purplish-red veins that provided dim light.

"Little King's" sensors received unprecedented interference here.

"Warning: High-intensity unknown energy field detected, continuously interfering with the unit's sensors. Mental link module experiencing 1.2% synchronization delay."

Lin Mo's brows furrowed.

A 1.2% synchronization delay sounded trivial, but in a rapidly changing battle, it could be fatal.

The tunnel sloped downwards, and the angle grew steeper and steeper, eventually becoming almost vertical.

"Little King" had to activate its anti-gravity suspension device to continue its silent descent.

There were no traces of Monster activity along the way, not even Wolf-level grunts.

This absolute silence was even more unsettling, as if even members of the Monster Association dared not easily set foot here.

After stealthily navigating this suffocating environment for about half an hour, when the number on the depth gauge had surpassed an astonishing value, the scene ahead changed dramatically once again.

At the end of the tunnel was a huge opening radiating a soft white light.

Lin Mo carefully maneuvered "Little King" closer to the edge of the opening, adjusted its optical sensors to optimal status, and peered inside.

The sight before him almost made him stop breathing.

It was an unimaginably vast underground cavern!

"No life forms detected in the passage, energy scan normal."

The system's prompt appeared before his eyes, but Lin Mo's gaze did not relax.

One had to know, this was very likely related to the "God"!

The cavern's dome was so high it was out of sight, adorned only by glowing fungi.

In the very center of the temple stood a simple altar constructed from massive black rocks. The altar was empty but exuded an ancient, heart-pounding aura.

However, what captivated Lin Mo's attention most was not the altar, but the colossal mural behind it, which almost covered the entire rock wall.

"Activate high-definition scanning and image recording, and perform data analysis on the mural."

Lin Mo looked at the mural, its upper half obscured, filled with anticipation.

As "Little King's" scanning system began to work, the overall appearance of the hidden mural was slowly reconstructed and filled in by the algorithm, finally appearing clearly before Lin Mo.

On the exposed lower half, a creature strikingly similar in form to Monster King Orochi was carved.

Below the Orochi-like creature were dense crowds of kneeling people, interspersed with various Monsters of different forms.

Without exception, they all seemed to be offering their loyalty to the being on the throne in the most humble postures.

And when the hidden upper half of the image was completely restored, Lin Mo's pupils trembled violently.

It was a colossal humanoid creature, occupying two-thirds of the mural's space.

It had no specific facial features; its face was a chaotic glow, but merely its outline exuded supreme majesty.

God!

Lin Mo suppressed the tumultuous waves in his heart, but "Little King's" scan was not yet complete.

Besides this largest core mural near the altar, there were also some smaller, more primitively carved auxiliary murals nearby.

They clearly weren't as refined as the main mural, but they recorded a terrifying history in a more savage way.

In the first mural, the sky was torn open by a massive, distorted crack, from which a gigantic shadow was slowly descending.

On the ground, countless tiny humans and animals were kneeling and sacrificing to the rift and shadow in the sky.

In the second mural, a shimmering substance descended from the rift. These substances scattered across the earth, permeating the bodies of animals, plants, and even humans.

Immediately following was a terrifying mutation.

In the painting, previously ordinary beasts began to grow extra limbs and hard carapaces; docile livestock became ferocious and bloodthirsty;

Even some of the kneeling humans, their bodies began to twist and swell, eventually transforming into various forms of... Monsters.

In the third mural, the creatures that had become Monsters, led by several particularly massive "leader"-class Monsters, began to wage war against humans.

In the painting, human cities were engulfed in flames, while the Monsters cheered and roared over the ruins, offering their "trophies" to the rift in the sky.

Lin Mo's eyes grew more solemn and shocked. Could this be... the origin of Monsters!?

These murals, linked together, were clearly telling an origin story of "Monsters"!!!

A story about an extradimensional being called "God" invading this world and transforming its native creatures into Its dependents and servants.

His gaze shifted to the last mural.

This mural was located in the exact center of the entire rock wall, directly above the black altar.

It depicted no specific scene, only a huge, abstract symbol—an asymmetrical spiral, seemingly composed of countless constantly writhing tentacles.

This symbol was filled with an evil beauty and an indescribable magic.

Merely observing it remotely through "Little King's" sensors, Lin Mo felt an incredibly powerful mental Impact, transcending physical distance, directly bombarding his mind.

Thousands of miles away, wearing his VR headset, he felt a needle-like sting in his temples, and his vision swam with golden spots.

Lin Mo immediately averted his gaze from the symbol, and the dizzying sensation slowly receded.

"Is this symbol... the emblem of that 'God'?" he muttered, his back already drenched in cold sweat.

Lin Mo had always believed that the emergence of Monsters in the One-Punch Man world was some accidental evolutionary phenomenon, a unique aspect of this world.

But everything before him completely overturned his understanding.

This was not a natural disaster, but a "man-made" calamity—except this "man" was a terrifying existence from a higher dimension.

For the first time, a heavy sense of worry for the future of this world arose in Lin Mo's heart.

Facing an enemy of this caliber, the existence of the Hero Association, and even all of humanity's struggles, seemed so small and powerless.

But soon, a figure wearing a yellow jumpsuit, a white cape, and a shiny bald head, suddenly appeared in his mind.

That man always had a deadpan expression, seemed unenthusiastic about everything, but could always, at the most crucial moment, solve all problems with the most unpretentious punch.

Lin Mo's tense lips suddenly curved upwards, eventually turning into a soft chuckle. He shook his head, feeling his earlier worries were somewhat laughable.

"What's there to be afraid of?" he muttered to himself, his tone relaxing. "With Saitama-sensei around, there's no real danger in this world."

Just as he completely relaxed, preparing to package and transmit all the data, then quietly withdraw, the previously stable VR interface was instantly covered in blood-red warnings!

"Warning!!!"

"Warning!!!"

"Super-high intensity energy response detected rapidly approaching! Target locked! Threat level assessment in progress... Assessment failed! Data overflow! Threat level... Immeasurable!!!"
