Chapter 83 - A Much-Needed Relief

"You should sleep."

Aria's voice cut through the darkness. Marcus had been lying on the cot for two hours with his eyes open, and his mind raced through everything that had happened over the past few days. 

"Can't," he said quietly. "Every time I close my eyes, I see their faces. All of them."

He heard movement across the small room, and Aria crossed to his cot and sat on the edge. In the dim light filtering through from Viktor's computer screens in the main room, he could see her face, and the concern in her eyes made something tighten in his chest.

"You're carrying too much," she said softly as she reached out to touch his face. "This isn't all on you, Marcus. You didn't pull the trigger or give the orders. A monster is doing this, and that's not your fault."

"Isn't it?" Marcus sat up, "I'm the one they're targeting, and other people are paying for it with their lives."
