Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Shadows of the Past*

The moon cast eerie shadows on the orphanage walls as Kaia huddled in her narrow bed, her scar pulsing with a faint, otherworldly glow. Whispers of the wind outside seemed to carry the faintest hint of a lullaby, a melody that stirred long-forgotten memories.

Suddenly, the creaking door broke the silence. Sister Margaret's stern face appeared, seeing Kaia shivering in cold said

"you didn't wash the dishes, you will stay hungry again tonight, that your punishment for disobidence " she turn to leave, her voice dripping with venom "your lucky to be here'

She went out with disdain on her face murmuring and cursing out loud.

Kaia was already use to the torment she face in the ophanange, Her eyes drop as she welcome the feeling of familer ache of despair settling in her heart. She knew she will stay another night of loneliness and hunger, while the other kids receive kindness and care, but kaia scar face keep her isolated so she don't scared visitors and other children…..

As Kaia stood up from her narrow bed, the moonlight streaming through the prison-like window highlighted her scarred cheek. She touched the veil covering her face, a habitual gesture. The cold air bit at her skin as she walked outside to wash the remaining dishes. The water was icy, but she welcomed the numbness. As she scrubbed, she felt the gaze again – a sad, helpless stare. Kaia heart twisted, and she looked up,her eyes scanning the darkness for a moment she lets her self imagine the belong to someone who cares

The weight of the gaze lingered, a gentle sorrow that echoed through her chest. Kaia's hands moved mechanically, washing the last of the dishes. She rinsed them, the water's chill seeping into her bones. As she dried her hands on her worn apron, she caught a glimpse of herself in a fragment of broken mirror leaning against the wall. For a fleeting moment, she let her eyes meet the reflection of a girl she rarely acknowledged – a girl with piercing blue eyes and a scar that twisted her features into a map of pain.

Kaia quickly looked away, pushing the veil back into place. She didn't dare linger on such thoughts. Dreams were a luxury she couldn't afford. With a quiet resolve, she gathered the last of her strength and headed back to her narrow bed, the silence of the night swallowing her whole once more.

As she lay down, the darkness seemed to press in around her, but Kaia closed her eyes, her mind drifting back to the lullaby she sometimes heard in the wind – a melody that felt like a whispered promise, a reminder that there was more to her life than the cold, harsh reality of the orphanage.

The lullaby lingered in her mind, a haunting melody that seemed to weave itself into the fabric of her dreams. As she drifted off to sleep, Kaia felt a strange sense of calm wash over her, as if the music had temporarily chased away the darkness. But when she woke up the next morning, the memory of the lullaby felt distant, a fleeting whisper in the wind.

She rose from her bed, her body stiff from the cold stone floor. The other children were already up, huddled around the fire pit in the center of the room. Sister Margaret stood over them, a cauldron of thin porridge in her hands. Kaia's stomach growled at the smell, but she knew better than to hope for a full bowl. She took her place at the end of the line, her eyes downcast.

As the morning wore on, Kaia's tasks were assigned to her with a curt nod. She scrubbed the floors, her hands raw and red, The sun beat down on her, relentless, and Kaia felt her energy draining with each passing moment.

But it was during the afternoon chores, when she was out in the garden, tending to the vegetables, that she felt the gaze again. This time, she was certain she saw a shadowy figure lurking just beyond the trees. Kaia's heart quickened, and she spun around, but there was no one there. The wind rustled through the leaves, and she shivered, despite the warmth of the sun.

She once agin feel lonely…

"Why are you standing looking like a clown will you come over here and help me with the laundry, unless you wont get anything to eat in the night"

Sister margent said while looking at Kaia like a pest…

With people say she raised a monster

But there is nothing she could do because of the secret agreement she made with a the unknown woman who clamed to be kaia birth mother….
