Chapter 32 - Failed Assessment

"Not good!" Tang San exclaimed softly. The moment Zhao Wuji moved, he understood his opponent's strategy.

Master had once warned him that if they ever faced an opponent from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan, their first priority should be to eliminate the clan's Soul Master immediately.

Zhao Wuji's attack wasn't aimed solely at Ning Rongrong, but his clear intention to unleash a wide-area strike was designed to disrupt the support effects of her Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda.

Tang San immediately flung out his Blue Silver Grass, preparing to rescue Ning Rongrong.

A muffled boom shook the earth violently. A ring of earthy-yellow energy surged outward from the epicenter, rippling across the ground toward Tang San and his companions.

Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing reacted swiftly. Xiao Wu leaped forward, while Zhu Zhuqing darted sideways, both clearing the shockwave. Tang San jumped almost simultaneously with Xiao Wu, their leaps reaching nearly the same height.

To everyone's surprise, Tang San's Blue Silver Grass struck empty air. By the time his vines reached their target, Ning Rongrong and Qian Renyue had already moved beyond Zhao Wuji's attack range, standing safely at a distance.

Tang San immediately turned his attention back to the battle, ignoring the other two. "Xiao Wu, go!"

Xiao Wu didn't even need to look to know where Tang San's hand was. After six years together, their teamwork was flawless. She tapped her toes against his palm, using his momentum to launch herself downward like an arrow toward Zhao Wuji below.

Offense was the best defense. If they remained passive and allowed Zhao Wuji to unleash his full power, they would have no chance. By attacking, they might buy themselves more time.

Seeing that his ground-pounding fists had no effect, Zhao Wuji's face broke into a grin. As Xiao Wu lunged at him, he didn't dodge. Instead, he clasped his hands behind his back, as if inviting her attack.

Xiao Wu seized the opportunity. She curled into a ball mid-air, rolling forward until she was about to reach Zhao Wuji. Then, she straightened her body, completing her Martial Soul Transformation in an instant. Her feet landed simultaneously on either side of Zhao Wuji's neck.

Two muffled thuds echoed simultaneously as Xiao Wu's feet landed precisely on Zhao Wuji's shoulders. Yet Zhao Wuji didn't even flinch, grinning widely. "Seems you're lacking strength, little girl."

Xiao Wu snorted coldly. *Lacking strength?* She'd show him. Her feet seemed to fuse to Zhao Wuji's shoulders as her toes suddenly curled inward, pressing against the carotid arteries on either side of his neck. With a powerful twist of her lithe body, she began to spin in mid-air.

Xiao Wu's strength alone might not have been enough to move Zhao Wuji's massive frame, but she wasn't working alone.

Ning Rongrong had granted both Tang San and Xiao Wu a forty percent power boost.

Zhao Wuji suddenly felt his entire body constrict. Thorn-covered vines had erupted from the ground, wrapping around his arms and legs in a suffocating embrace. The vines tightened mercilessly, releasing a potent paralyzing toxin. Simultaneously, the vines surged upward, lifting his feet off the ground.

No matter how strong a person is, they can't maintain their balance without solid footing. Zhao Wuji's body immediately began to spin in the air, propelled by Xiao Wu's feet. He was still completely entangled in Tang San's Blue Silver Grass, resembling a massive, blue-black zongzi.

With Ning Rongrong's Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda providing support, both Tang San and Xiao Wu were now wielding Soul Power far exceeding the thirtieth-level standard. As Xiao Wu's body spun rapidly in the air, she suddenly flipped backward, forcefully pulling Zhao Wuji's body along with her.

Planting her hands on the ground, she executed a scissor kick. Had this been an ordinary person, their neck would have been instantly snapped by Xiao Wu's legs, and they would have landed headfirst.

With the momentum of her backward flip, Xiao Wu had poured every ounce of her strength into this final strike.

"Spinning around is kind of fun," Zhao Wuji's voice echoed through the air. Suddenly, Xiao Wu felt her rapidly rotating body freeze mid-spin. Her feet could no longer move her opponent beneath her. A tremendous force surged through her, violently pulling her backward flip back to its starting position.

The vines binding Zhao Wuji shattered simultaneously, scattering in all directions, and his feet landed firmly back on the ground.

At that moment, Zhao Wuji's expression suddenly shifted slightly. With a low growl, his body abruptly expanded. His already terrifying muscles nearly doubled in size, and his height instantly increased by a meter, transforming him into a colossal figure.

Seven dazzling Soul Rings simultaneously rose around him, exactly as Dai Mubai had described: two yellow, two purple, and three black—seven terrifying rings of power encircling his body.

A series of rapid, crisp cracks echoed from behind Zhao Wuji. Seizing the opportunity, Xiao Wu lightly tapped her toes against his shoulder, her lithe body pressed against his back as she flipped downward. Her scorpion braid snaked down like a living serpent, coiling around Zhao Wuji's left ankle as she exerted her full strength.

The dense cracking sounds were Zhu Zhuqing's attack. From the moment she darted forward, her speed was fully unleashed, living up to her reputation as an Agility-Type Battle Soul Master. Even Dai Mubai was awestruck by her velocity. What made her truly terrifying was her complete silence. She moved like a shadow, striking without a sound, releasing no energy, and leaving no trace of Soul Power cutting through the air.

After possessing her, Zhu Zhuqing's eyes simultaneously changed color: her left eye turned emerald green, while her right eye became clear blue. Her long hair flowed naturally down her back, and as she moved, faint afterimages trailed behind her, making it nearly impossible to pinpoint her exact location. Her attacks were equally mesmerizing. Her razor-sharp claws targeted vital points with deadly precision, forcing Zhao Wuji to unleash his Martial Soul.

Zhu Zhuqing's timing was impeccable. She struck at the precise moment Zhao Wuji's power faltered—the instant after he shattered Tang San's Blue Silver Grass and pulled Xiao Wu back, when his strength momentarily relaxed. Otherwise, her attacks would never have pierced his defenses.

However, once Zhao Wuji fully manifested his Martial Soul, Zhu Zhuqing's attacks lost their effectiveness. His body became as solid as steel; even her full-force strikes with her cat claws could only tear through his clothing.

Xiao Wu's柔技 suffered its first setback. No matter how much force she exerted, she couldn't budge Zhao Wuji even an inch. Even when she flipped backward and struck the back of his knees with her hands, her efforts proved futile.

Xiao Wu was frantic, but she could find no way to break through Zhao Wuji's defenses.

When the Blue Silver Grass was shattered, Tang San's face paled. Without hesitation, he surged forward, and thick vines erupted from Zhao Wuji's body, momentarily immobilizing him. This was the effect of the Blue Silver Grass's Second Soul Skill, Parasitic Growth.

Seizing this brief opportunity, Tang San closed the distance to Zhao Wuji. Simultaneously, Zhu Zhuqing materialized behind him, her cat-like claws striking at his throat and the base of his ear—targeting the most vulnerable points on the human body.

Before Zhao Wuji could break free from the Blue Silver Grass, Tang San unleashed a sudden punch toward his chest. Abruptly, his fist transformed into an open palm, which retracted sharply. The Crane Control, Dragon Capture technique activated the instant Zhao Wuji's force faltered, yanking his body forward in a stumble. At the same moment, Tang San's right foot shot out, striking Zhao Wuji's toes. Despite Zhao Wuji's formidable Soul Power, he lost his balance in this precarious position.

"Lift!" Tang San roared, straining his arms as he abruptly hoisted Zhao Wuji's massive frame into the air.

"Xiao Wu!" Zhao Wuji was completely lifted off the ground for the first time, finally giving Xiao Wu's skills room to shine.

Her slender legs instantly wrapped around Zhao Wuji's waist, her hands gripping his ankles. Her first Soul Ring blazed with light as she violently spun him three times in the air, sending him crashing headfirst into the ground.

Though Zhu Zhuqing's earlier attacks hadn't dealt any damage, they had subtly disrupted Zhao Wuji's defenses. Combining their efforts, the trio had finally executed this coordinated strike.

Zhao Wuji's massive, Martial Soul-enhanced body slammed into the earth with tremendous force. His entire head was buried in the mud.

Xiao Wu floated down gracefully, landing perfectly on Tang San's shoulder. She balanced on one foot on his right shoulder, her arms outstretched for stability, gasping for breath.

She had poured all her strength into that attack. Without Tang San's skillful use of Crane Control Capture Dragon, she couldn't have executed her signature move—a devastating throw combining the skills of both her Soul Rings.

"Xiao San, do you think we went too far?" Xiao Wu asked anxiously.

Tang San shook his head. "Teacher Zhao hasn't even used his Soul Skills yet."

He glanced at the incense stick burning on the ground. Only a third of it had burned away so far. Yet, during their combined assault, Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Zhu Zhuqing had exerted themselves to the utmost, exhausting every trick in their arsenal.

Zhao Wuji brushed the dirt from his head and grumbled, "This is like an eighty-year-old mother being kicked over by her own child! Looks like I can't afford to hold back against you brats anymore."

"Alright, kids, let's continue." Zhao Wuji strode purposefully toward Tang San and Xiao Wu, their earlier coordinated attack having left a deep "impression" on him.

Zhao Wuji was momentarily stunned by the kick, a flicker of genuine seriousness finally appearing in his amber eyes. These children would soon be his students. If he let them continue to show him up like this, he'd lose all face. How could he possibly teach them after this?

Zhu Zhuqing didn't stand idle. Seeing Zhao Wuji charge toward Tang San and Xiao Wu, the two yellow Soul Rings around her body lit up simultaneously. Her heterochromatic eyes—one blue, one green—narrowed into vertical slits as she silently accelerated forward. Leaping into the air, she curled into a ball enveloped in Soul Power, spinning rapidly as she hurtled toward Zhao Wuji.

"Second Soul Skill: Netherclaw Hundredfold!" Within her spinning form, countless claw shadows materialized. Combining her body's rapid rotation with the razor-sharp, piercing power of her cat claws, she unleashed over a hundred strikes in a fraction of a second, all focused on the same spot with devastating force.

The moment Xiao Wu's kick struck Zhao Wuji, Zhu Zhuqing's Netherclaw Hundredfold slammed into his back. The attack resembled a rapidly spinning buzzsaw, tearing into his flesh with relentless speed.

"ROAR—!" A furious roar erupted as Zhao Wuji's eyes flashed with icy fury. His fists clenched tightly, and the first yellow Soul Ring among his seven rings instantly lit up.

A blinding golden light erupted instantly, sending Zhu Zhuqing, who had unleashed her Netherclaw Hundredfold, flying backward with a pained cry.

"First Soul Skill: Angel's Blessing!" Seeing Zhu Zhuqing injured, Qian Renyue activated her First Soul Skill. Golden light enveloped Zhu Zhuqing, and in an instant, her wounds were completely healed.

Zhu Zhuqing, who had been tumbling backward, flipped mid-air as her injuries vanished, landing steadily on the ground. She stared at Qian Renyue in disbelief. Though Teacher Zhao had held back, she knew her injuries were severe. Yet this First Soul Skill had completely healed her. It was beyond comprehension.

Xiao Wu suffered equally. The intense golden light rendered all her efforts futile. The violent shockwave forced her to cough up blood mid-air, her body going numb as Blue Silver Grass pulled her into Tang San's arms.

Tang San, though least injured, felt his insides burning from the Blue Silver Grass's recoil. But Xiao Wu's injury shattered his composure.

Just then, two golden beams enveloped them, instantly restoring their injuries to perfect health.

Zhao Wuji's speed suddenly surged, as if he closed the distance to Tang San in a single step. He raised his massive hand, his second Soul Ring glowing brightly. With a booming laugh, he channeled Soul Power into his palm, instantly transforming it into a golden, twice-sized hand that slammed down toward Tang San.

Xiao Wu was still in Tang San's arms. He couldn't let her take the blow for him, so he hastily pulled her away. But this simple movement cost him his chance to dodge.

Just then, Xiao Wu's second Soul Ring lit up. Her eyes abruptly turned blood-red as she locked her gaze directly on Zhao Wuji.

Zhao Wuji felt a sudden dizziness. Startled, his palm strike slowed dramatically, its Soul Power diminished by more than half. Golden light blazed in his eyes. "Impressive! A mind-altering Soul Skill!"

The crimson light in Xiao Wu's eyes clashed with the golden light in Zhao Wuji's. Without a sound, she collapsed unconscious in Tang San's arms, blood trickling from her mouth and nose.

Almost instinctively, Tang San seized this moment of reprieve. Activating Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, he swiftly retreated beyond Zhao Wuji's attack range.

"Xiao Wu, Xiao Wu!" Tang San called out anxiously, immediately channeling his Profound Heaven Art inner energy into her body. But Xiao Wu remained completely still.

Zhao Wuji didn't pursue further, standing his ground. "She's fine," he said. "While illusion-type Soul Skills are effective, the vast difference in our Soul Power meant she suffered a backlash from her own energy. It's the same reason your Blue Silver Grass's poison had no effect on me. Let her rest for the night; she'll recover by morning."

"Ning Yueyue, can you help heal Xiao Wu?" Tang San asked, his eyes filled with hope as he looked at Qian Renyue.

"I'm sorry, my Martial Soul can only heal physical injuries, not mental ones," Qian Renyue replied. "I can alleviate her pain, but her mental strength will need to recover naturally."

Tang San lowered his head, his voice hoarse. "Thank you for your help."

Qian Renyue nodded and activated her First Soul Skill: "First Soul Skill: Angel's Blessing."

Zhao Wuji turned to Ning Rongrong, smiling faintly. "No need for me to intervene again, little girl from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan. You've lost. You're all still too weak. You couldn't even withstand me for the time it takes an incense stick to burn. This is the difference in strength."
