Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: Suicide

I just walked out from the office with a totally different expression. All that was in her eyes was boredom, lifelessness—like she cared about nothing in this world.

'Where is the best way I can end this? It gets by sleeping. Should I try hanging myself? Cutting my throat? Or jumping out of a building?'

No, no, no. I don't want anything that will cause a scene.

Iris kept thinking and talking to herself. She had been the quiet, lonely one who absorbed more pain than anyone realized. And now the pain was unbearable…so unbearable that she had given up on life. She wanted to commit suicide.

"Hey Kate, how was the appointment with Dr. Thompson?" the young man spoke as he walked towards Harris.

She only lazily looked at him, then stepped aside and kept walking, ignoring him completely. Severing whatever relationship they had. She didn't care who he, everything was all in vain.

"Ouch. That's... weird," Scott said to himself, watching her go.

---

Iris walked to the exit, and the automatic door slid open for her. She looked around.

"I wish the world was really peaceful," she murmured.

Then she walked toward the lady who had just stepped out of the fancy car.

The woman approached Iris and spoke. "You're back. I was about to reach out to you. We have an appointment at Top Notch Investment Company, and we should start moving if we don't want to be late."

'I guess this must be Fidelia's assistant,' Iris thought as she looked at Sarah.

"You know what? I'm not feeling so well. I think I need to go home and rest for a while. Cancel my schedule for today and take the day off," Iris said.

When she looked at the car, she knew there was no way Sarah her secretary, would be the owner. It had to be

"Hand me the car keys. I have to go," Iris added.

That caught Sarah by surprise. Fidelia wasn't like this. Her expression had really changed. What had happened to make her this sad? She came out of the office acting totally different in a strange manner.

"I understand… but let me drive you home," Sarah said.

"Don't worry, it's fine. I'll handle it," Iris replied.

Sarah was reluctant to let go, but Fidelia was her boss, so she couldn't argue. She handed the keys over to Iris, who walked to the car and got in.

For a while, she didn't move. Sarah just stood there, watching, trying to figure out what had happened to make her look this way.

Then Fidelia finally drove off.

"Wow… my boss just broke down, and I was told to take the day off. That's weird," Sarah muttered.

Then her phone started ringing.

"Sarah, where are you now?"

"Um… I'm at the hospital."

"Oh, great. Where's Fidelia?"

"That's it… um, she just left a while ago. She said something about being sick and told me to cancel all her schedules for today and take the day off."

"Where is she right now?"

"She just took the car and drove off. She said she was going home. But wait… that's not the direction to her house."

"Where did she go?" Mia asked again.

"I don't know, she just—"

"Where the fuck did she go, Sarah?" Mia's voice rose sharply. This was unlike her.

Sarah froze, shocked by the way Mia spoke. Her heart started beating fast. She quickly stepped aside, trying to recall the route Fidelia had taken.

"She passed Oxford Street. I think she's heading toward Stanley Bridge."

"Alright. I want you to do me a favor. Get a taxi and follow her now. Update me when you get there. I mean it leave now. Don't let her out of your sight," Mia instructed firmly.

Sarah immediately hailed a taxi. "Taxi!" she called out. After about three minutes, one finally stopped. She got in quickly and told the driver to follow the same route.

Her hands trembled slightly as she gripped her phone. She was anxious and scared. She didn't understand what was going on.

---

Iris kept driving as she avoided and overtook cars. Her phone kept ringing. Then it kept ringing again and again. She finally decided to pick up, but she kept quiet.

"Fidelia, where are you? Fidelia…

"It's Iris"

"Iris, where are you?"

"I'm going to where I can end it."

"Stop whatever you're doing. You don't have to kill yourself."

"Actually, I have to. I'm tired. The pain is too much. The pain is too much. I can't take it anymore. This is the best decision to make."

"No, Iris, think about this. If you kill yourself, you'll be killing three people you, Nyra, and Fidelia. Think about what they want. Don't kill anyone. Please. Fidelia is my friend. I'm begging you, don't do this. Where are you?" Mia spoke so fast but she didn't get a response.

'Actually it's four of us' Iris said In her mind.

"Where are you!!!" Mia shouted.

"Alright, I'll tell you. I'm going to Stanley Bridge, and I'll be jumping off it. In five minutes. You can't stop me now. Think about it."

Then she cut the call and threw the phone to the back seat.

'It's seems you do have people who care about you after all Fidelia'

After a while, she arrived at the bridge. She parked and walked out, then moved to the edge of the bridge. Although she'd given them five minutes, she wasn't planning on giving them any time to save her.

She stood at the edge of the bridge, looking up as if she was expecting someone to listen to her. She stood on the edge, frozen, staring at the water below.

Finally, everything went silent

She stood at the edge of the bridge, looking up as if expecting someone to listen to her. Then she let herself fall. The last sound she heard was the sound of tires screeching.

Then cold water hit her dragging her under and everything went dark.

For the first time in forever, Iris felt...she would be relieved of the pain.
