Chapter 22 - A Mother’s Name

Mei traces the lullaby via the local historian Renée calls in: the song is regional, tied to a midwife who ran a clinic in the 1990s. The midwife's son is alive and remembers a nurse who took a tiny bundle out at night and returned with a wrapped box. He gives Mei an address—one that points to a seaside cottage owned years ago by a woman who later worked as Eleanor's housemaid.

Cliffhanger: At the cottage, Mei finds a stack of pressed flowers and a name scribbled on a recipe card: Lin. It's her mother's real name.
