Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Does This Count as... Basic Human Nature?

As it turns out, taking shortcuts never ends well.

However, the system's criticism inadvertently showed that Su Yuan's actions were not bad; in fact, he did a great thing, so he felt no guilt.

Though he couldn't complete the system task with the abandoned delivery, it wasn't a big issue; he could just deliver a few more meals in the evening.

Su Yuan shook his head, dismissing the thoughts, and stepped onto the shared Flying Sword to leave.

Just then, a sword light suddenly cut through the rain from afar, drawing attention.

Following the direction of the sword light, Su Yuan saw a plainly dressed, delicate-featured girl flying towards the dilapidated district with a fierce aura.

The girl's exquisite jade-like face bore a cold expression, surrounded by an aura Su Yuan was all too familiar with.

It was the resentment of a working person.

It felt like this resentment could resurrect ten Evil Sword Immortals.

To Su Yuan's surprise, the girl turned out to be someone he knew.

His classmate, one of the top three in Taihua High School, first in the class, a genius, and also the class president of Su Yuan's class, Chen Nuoyi.

Su Yuan stood in awe.

This was a prodigy with a monthly exam score of 685, a higher being with a reproductive isolation from someone like him who scored a mere 550!

"But why would Chen be in this old neighborhood?"

Su Yuan was puzzled.

He always thought that the sacred first place should be driving a luxury car and living in a villa, and Chen Nuoyi's usual aloof demeanor was no different from the wealthy heiresses on TV.

While pondering, Chen Nuoyi had already stopped at the entrance of an apartment building, her pretty eyes scanning the steps as if searching for something.

When she still couldn't find what she was looking for, the fierce aura on her face intensified!

Su Yuan: "..."

The apartment building where Chen Nuoyi was seemed a bit familiar?

If he remembered correctly, wasn't that where he found the pieced-together meal?

Could she be looking for that pieced-together meal?

Su Yuan felt a slight tension in his heart, glanced at the pieced-together meal bobbing in the dirty water of the garbage bin, and saw the customer's name at the end of the receipt.

Chen Nuoyi.

As if electrocuted, he withdrew his gaze.

Ah—covered in sweat, family members!

Although Su Yuan believed he did a good deed, seeing the aggressive girl not far away, he still felt a bit scared.

If the sacred first place found out the culprit was him, would she cut him down in a rage?

Su Yuan swallowed, slowly inching away, ready to bolt.

But no sooner had he moved, Chen Nuoyi's eyes swept over, and upon seeing Su Yuan's face, she paused slightly.

"Class president, what a coincidence..."

Feeling awkward after being discovered, Su Yuan greeted her.

Chen Nuoyi's Flying Sword flashed under her feet, and she was in front of Su Yuan in an instant, her voice as cold as winter lake water:

"Su Yuan, did you happen to see the delivery left at the entrance of that building just now?"

Su Yuan, somewhat nervous, blocked the garbage bin holding the pieced-together meal behind him, shook his head, and said:

"I didn't notice, I just got here a minute ago to deliver an order."

Chen Nuoyi nodded slightly, and the fierce aura in her pretty eyes grew stronger:

"That damned delivery thief, better not let me catch them!"

Forced to work overtime voluntarily during her part-time job, then drenched in rain on her way home, she had hoped to eat some hot food upon returning, only to find that the delivery she'd been yearning for had been stolen!

An accumulation of vexing issues had caused Chen Nuoyi's mentality to explode!

The boiling murderous aura made Su Yuan increasingly uneasy.

Faced with Uncle Wang, he could lie without a blushing face or a racing heart, yet before the sacred first in class, an instinctive fear lingered.

Perhaps this was the bloodline suppression of a 685 score over a 550 score.

And since he was in the wrong, it was time to make amends since the victim had come to confront him.

Cautiously, Su Yuan suggested:

"Class president, the delivery is gone, but if you're hungry now, why not go for a quick bite nearby?"

Again, Chen Nuoyi paused, looking up at the person before her, noticing Su Yuan's unnatural expression, she suspiciously said:

"Why do I feel like you're guilty? As if you did something wrong."

Su Yuan: ...Is this a woman's sixth sense? How terrifying!

He had to talk his way out of this!

In a crisis, Su Yuan's brain operated at unparalleled speed, and in an instant, he came up with a pretext:

"It's mainly because I accidentally made mistakes before, so it's normal to feel guilty when seeing you."

He often sneaked snacks and played with his phone during school, so feeling guilty in front of the class president seemed reasonable.

"Accidentally made mistakes?"

This vague explanation did not immediately remind Chen Nuoyi of school matters, but instead, she recalled the often-seen barrage comments when she recently watched short videos.

Made mistakes when I was young, made mistakes before.

Common human behavior, completely agree, understandable, never heard of it, Bush Gore incident…

Out of curiosity, she specifically searched for what these comments were about, and then the door to a new world opened.

And now, a similar comment appeared in reality, and the person involved was herself?!

With a slight jump in her heart, the fierce aura in Chen Nuoyi's pretty eyes diminished significantly.

After a moment of silence, she hesitated and said:

"This should count as... common human behavior?"

Su Yuan: "???"

After a good ten seconds of mental shutdown, Su Yuan analyzed the cause and effect of what he had just said and Chen Nuoyi's response, and was completely speechless.

Really, bro!

Class president, even with your innocent looks, you watch such videos?

This made the situation even worse!

So, this is your idea of common human behavior, huh? Quite confident in yourself!

Although she did have a point, the girl before him was indeed, well!

Su Yuan had to make himself clearer for Chen Nuoyi to realize her misunderstanding.

This almost broke her cold demeanor!

Chen Nuoyi, oh Chen Nuoyi, you must stop watching those trash videos because they've already corrupted your mind!

Also, thanks to Su Yuan's interruption, Chen Nuoyi had forgotten about the stolen meal.

She declined Su Yuan's offer to treat her and said goodbye before entering the building.

Watching the class president's figure disappear from view, Su Yuan finally breathed a sigh of relief and continued delivering food in the rain.

By evening, the rain caused by the Water Dragon had long ceased, and Su Yuan experienced another "losing a meal."

[Ding, novice demon task completed]

[Task reward "Brahma Purifying Demon Heart" has been issued!]

[Effect of Brahma Purifying Demon Heart: Mind remains ever pure and undefiled, significantly increases focus in any task!]

The moment Su Yuan gained the Brahma Purifying Demon Heart, he felt a profound tranquility in his mind, all the chaotic and useless thoughts scattering away.

This unparalleled state of focus was something he could only barely achieve after sitting in meditation for more than half an hour before.

Well, now my boss won't have to worry about me slacking off at work anymore.

Damn, does the system want him to be utterly dedicated to being a workhorse?
