Chapter 16 - Chapter 11: Ranked First in School, Perfect Score on English for the Third Mock Exam!

After lunch, everyone returned to their dorms for a nap and little else was said.

The first class in the afternoon was English.

Lisa swayed her hips and walked into the classroom with a face full of joy, as if something delightful had happened.

"Good afternoon, boys and girls!"

"Good afternoon, teacher!"

Everyone was energized, not only because they enjoyed Lisa's class but also because they were looking forward to the announcement of the exam results.

"First, a piece of good news: the English test papers for the third mock exam have been graded, and Class 2 ranked first in the whole grade for the average score!"

Without making them wait too long, Lisa got straight to the point, smiling.

Cheers erupted in the classroom, and some even whistled. It was an honor for the entire class.

Lisa's teaching standard is quite high. Her classes, Grade 3 Class 1 and Class 2, often have top scores, but there's a fair share of competition. There's another English teacher in the same grade known for strictness; a famous teacher produces excellent students, and those two classes are formidable rivals. The second mock exam average saw them taking the first place.

This time, Class 2 getting the first in the grade wasn't only a win for the students but a boost for Lisa's reputation, so she was extremely happy.

"In this third mock exam, many students performed excellently, and the top student in the whole school is in our class!"

At this point, Lisa glanced at a particular spot in the classroom.

Following her gaze, everyone could pretty much guess.

Qin Shiqing sat in that spot.

She, the class belle, is also the class committee member and English class representative. Her English scores are top-notch, securing first place in both the first and second mock exams, and Lisa is very fond of this star student.

It seemed like Qin Shiqing had again taken the top spot in English this time.

However, they all failed to notice that Lisa's expression was a bit peculiar.

"Next, we'll hand out the English test papers!"

"Li Ming, 117!"

"Wei Yao, 122!"

"Lai Guangrong, 108!"

"..."

The students whose names were called went up one by one to the podium to retrieve their test papers, with the scores announced publicly. Almost every teacher is accustomed to using this method to motivate students.

Those with excellent grades naturally walked with their heads held high, very proud, whereas those who didn't do well remained low-key.

"Zhao Mingxuan, 136!"

Hearing his score, Zhao Mingxuan immediately felt proud.

His English scores were pretty good, rarely falling below the top five in the class and mostly coming in third place. This time he performed exceptionally well, getting a high score. There was also a very good chance of him getting the second place.

Getting the first place would be quite challenging, since Qin Shiqing scored more than 140 points in both previous exams unless this English class representative performed terribly, only then would the top spot be up for grabs.

Qin Shiqing had a very stable mentality, with little fluctuation in her English performance. Moreover, Lisa had hinted earlier that Qin Shiqing was undoubtedly first, so Zhao Mingxuan didn't dare to have high hopes.

Even though earlier, Lisa looked in the direction where Su Zelin was sitting, and some daredevil claimed his score in this mock exam would be higher than Qin Shiqing's, even daring to make a bet with her, Zhao Mingxuan considered this a joke.

If Su Zelin's English could surpass Qin Shiqing's, then I, Zhao Mingxuan, would eat two pounds of shit standing on my head!

The bespectacled boy made a vicious vow inwardly.

Like a victorious rooster, he took his test paper from the English teacher and, when returning to his seat, shot a condescending glance at Su Zelin from a high position.

The English teacher continued to distribute the papers.

It wasn't long before they reached the fourth group, where Qin Shiqing was, and everyone pricked up their ears.

Of course, they were most concerned about Qin Shiqing's English score.

After all, such is the treatment for the class genius and goddess, a prominent figure in their school.

"Wu Tao, 101!"

"Xie Pingping, 131!"

...

"Tang Yan, 119!"

Upon hearing her score, Tang Yan was not surprised. Her English was generally average, neither here nor there, so it was a typical performance.

"Qin Shiqing, 144!"

Lisa announced the top student's score, and the whole class was amazed.

An exceptionally high score, one point higher than the last mock exam!

Scoring over 140 in this subject is extremely challenging. Even many top students in the province score around 140, and only a few in history exceed 145.

If Qin Shiqing performs well in the college entrance exam, becoming a top student is not impossible.

"Impressive, as expected from Qin Shiqing!"

"Truly a leader, constantly stable in performance, posing no threat from others at all!"

"Perhaps the top scorer this year will be from our class!"

"..."

Compared to Zhao Mingxuan's prideful attitude, Qin Shiqing remained calm and collected. When she took her test paper from Lisa, she even slightly bowed her head.

"Shiqing, well done, keep it up!"

Lisa cherished her star pupil greatly—great at studies, pretty and graceful, and respectful.

"Yes, thank you, Ms. Lisa!"

Qin Shiqing returned to her seat, her expression serene, as if she had done something insignificant.

Her humility was one of the reasons she was well-liked in the class, not to mention with the boys, even the girls struggled to feel jealous of her.

"Lu Haoran…"

Upon hearing his name, Lu Haoran suddenly became nervous.

"126!"

Whew, the little sweetheart breathed a sigh of relief.

Not bad, it's higher than I expected!

Lu Haoran went up to the stage to receive his exam paper, casually glancing at the next paper, which belonged to his deskmate, Su Zelin.

Seeing the number on it, Lu Haoran was first stunned, then his eyes widened so much that his eyeballs almost fell out.

Whoa, how is that possible!

"Su Zelin..."

When this name was read out, Lisa's expression became strange again.

She couldn't believe this student's score.

When she received the report card, she was also incredibly shocked.

To ensure fairness, the exams were graded by teachers from different grades, and they were sealed and bound right after the test, so the English teacher grading the paper had no idea which class the student belonged to. There was no suspicion of favoritism in the scoring.

Moreover, no matter how much favoritism, no one could give such a score!

Lisa herself checked it once and found that there was indeed no doubt about this score, even if she had graded it, it would be the same.

After pausing for at least three seconds, the English teacher slowly said, "150!"

Originally, no one cared, but as soon as Lisa announced the score, the classroom fell silent for a moment, so quiet you could hear a pin drop, and then it burst into commotion.

"What, 150!"

"Su Zelin got a perfect score, how is that possible!"

"Did I hear wrong, or did Lisa make a mistake?"

"Even Qin Shiqing couldn't get a perfect score!"

"..."

Lisa could guess the crowd's reaction, so she emphasized once again, "That's right, Su Zelin scored a perfect score in this third mock test, ranking first in the grade!"

Hiss!

Who knows how many people drew a sharp breath, incredibly shocked in their hearts.

A perfect score in the third mock English test, can you believe it?

And it came from Su Zelin, the slacker!

Su Zelin's foreign language talent was unusually high, but he was usually so lazy it was maddening. In every test, he could always get above average in this subject, but no one would ever associate him with first in the grade, let alone a perfect score.

Even Qin Shiqing, with her always composed and beautiful face, showed a look of surprise.

This result was genuinely unexpected for her.

Countless gazes simultaneously fell on Su Zelin, yet the slacker in question didn't care and leisurely twirled the Hero fountain pen in his hand.

He languidly went up to the stage to collect his paper, not even looking at it before tossing it onto the desk, as if it were just a piece of scrap paper.

If it were someone else, they would probably be grinning from ear to ear, flipping it over several times, and even taking it home to frame on the wall.

This was a perfect score on a simulated high school English test!

Zhao Mingxuan was dumbstruck!

He had thought his score of 136 would securely hold second place, not expecting to be so quickly ousted.

No, this can't be, he must have cheated!

Zhao Mingxuan felt as if he had eaten something awful.

Of course, he knew cheating was impossible, he just couldn't accept it.

Secondary School No. 2 treated these mock exams like real ones, with incredibly strict invigilation.

Moreover, even if allowed an open-book test, it was almost impossible to get a perfect score in English.

Composition was inevitably an area where points were deducted!

No matter how well a high school student wrote an English essay, it would basically be at the level of a primary school language essay, clear but lacking in flair, making it easy to lose points. This is why even top scorers in college entrance exams rarely exceed 145 in English.

Zhao Mingxuan wracked his brains and couldn't figure out how this slacker got a perfect score.

Tang Yan was also dumbfounded. She reached over to grab that English paper from Su Zelin's desk.

That bold red 150 was so glaring.

Listening, single choice, cloze test, reading comprehension, error correction, writing, all checked correct in red!

Everything her overachieving deskmate got wrong, he got right.

Most crucially, even in writing, he didn't lose a single point!

This is the hardest aspect of getting a perfect score in English, even tougher than getting a perfect score on a language essay by a few points.

Xiaoyanzi was extremely curious, wanting to see what kind of perfect composition Su Zelin had written.

However, after skimming through it, it was like reading some esoteric text, she didn't recognize at least half of the words.

"Shiqing, check out what this guy wrote, why can't I understand it?"

Qin Shiqing also leaned over with interest, glancing a few times and shook her head.

Even with her English level, she couldn't understand a single sentence of this composition.

Because, in the composition, Su Zelin effortlessly used vast amounts of vocabulary and advanced grammar not taught in high school, some even involved special grammatical applications.

The purpose was to tell the grading teacher one thing — I don't belong at this level!

Others at most are eternal diamonds, but I'm a glorious king!

As long as the grading teacher wasn't blind, there was no reason to deduct points for this essay.

As for the other objective questions, Su Zelin had no worries, absolutely standard answers.

After all, before his reincarnation, he had an IELTS score of 8, making high school English as easy as a high school student doing primary school math addition and subtraction problems!

"I saw Zelin's score when I went up for my paper, and I thought I must have seen it wrong, but it turns out to be true, Zelin, you're incredible!"

Lu Haoran gave him a thumbs up.

"Looks like those foreign language films you watched really paid off!"

Xiaoyanzi: "..."

Lu Haoran is good in every way, just a bit too honest.
