The sun had climbed higher, filling the opulent bedchamber with a warm, golden light.
Lady Seraphine stirred in the massive bed. Her eyes looking at the empty bed beside her.
She was back in her room, yet her hand instinctively reached out seeking the warmth of the body that had been with her all night long.
But there was no one. She lazily sat up, clutching the silk duvet to her chest. The room was empty.
She looked at the pillow beside her, hoping it would smell the same like him.
But there was nothing, he was truly gone.
She stood up, clutching the robes on her body as she walked to the balcony doors and looked out towards the South Gate. In the far distance, a tiny speck of a cart was disappearing over a hill.
'Maybe that is him.'
She pressed her hand to the door frame. Her body ached.
A sweet, deep soreness radiated from her hips and her inner thighs.
Her back stung pleasantly from the scratches, and her skin felt sensitized, alive.
