Chapter 113 - The Silent Desk

Sierra sat at her desk, staring blankly at a spreadsheet that had remained unchanged for the last forty-five minutes. Her fingers hovered over the keys, but she couldn't bring herself to type. Every few seconds, her gaze would drift to the bank of elevators at the far end of the hall. Specifically, the glass-walled express elevator that bypassed the mundane levels and ascended directly to the "God Tier" of the building.

It had been three days. Three days since she had seen the back of Amara's head as she hurried into work. Three days since they had shared a quick, whispered coffee in the breakroom. Three days since Amara's phone had gone completely and utterly silent.

Sierra reached into the pocket of her cardigan and pulled out her own phone. The screen was a graveyard of one-sided conversations.

Sierra [Monday, 9:15 AM]: Hey! I can't wait to hear your story about the party!

Sierra [Monday, 6:30 PM]: Leaving for the night. You still upstairs? Boss keeping you late again?
