Chapter 8 - 8: What a great day!

Burning with the desire to do nothing but read more about the system.

Theorize about the substats.

Wonder about the strange informal tone in the description of my title compared to it's usual more formal one.

Do calculations left and right, find the best way to improve, to abuse this system.

And more, soooo much more. It's with IMMENSE pain, and with a hard shove against this intense desire that I force myself up.

I can't abuse anything to my advantage if I'm litterally dead.

The first step of the tutorial right?

That's what it said.

The others in the room do the same as me, we all gather in front of the door as it shift and form, violently.

That's...

I would say that's quite the sight but the door design doesn't change.

Anticlimatic much?

Apart from the sound everything is normal. It's a really violent sound.

A deaf guy may just find us completly insane if they found us staring at the door like a bunch of crazy guys.

"The weapons make the fighting theory, practically an evidence now" malfoy point out, and he's not wrong. Ignore his weird way of speaking. He's just a weird guy.

But even then, he's not wrong, what did it say already?

To get accustomed with our new weapons?

Yeah, there is no secret here, we're gonna fight.

Whether we're ready or not.

Jenna try to hold her bow straight after she pocketed the dagger Annie gave her.

Annie sweet and more social than the...I have no example of something super social so, just imagine I said something super obvious and smart right now.

Anyway, annie gave one of the daggers to Jenna if she needed to defend herself. Jenna just doesn't feel...bow ready yet.

Is that mean?

That's the truth, why did she even took the bow?

The more time passes the more I'm reassured with my choice...spears are cool.

The sounds in front of us become more and more insistent.

Alright, time to take matter into my own hands!

I need a plan, we need a plan to survive whatever kind of abomination will get thrown at us.

"let's modify the formation a bit"

I cringe a bit at my own words. Formation? Really? Whatever whatever NO TIME FOR THIS!

"Me and malfoy at the front, you three do the same as earlier."

I ready my weapon and take a step toward the door readying myself for anything, but suddenly, badass grandpa himself grab my arm with his fucking strong ass grip, damn does he work out or something?

"I will join you both in the frontline"

He says, I blink to answer, and before I can answer he nod his head "those old bones can protect you, believe me."

Broooooo.

It's the first time we met.

I don't believe you.

Still

...considering the strength in his hands and his overall good looking fitness.

Maybe.

Even his cane looks more decorative than anything, he's not hunched over, he's...I mean, I guess I can give him a chance?

I look at the shield for a second and then the old man again. It's possible isn't it? And if he's completly useless...well he'll do a good meat shield.

For some reasons saying those words even in my head is hard, he's staring at me, those eyes are sure, steady, confident.

"I guess, we can try it out"

He nod and then malfoy get my attention by screaming "come here, we don't know when those will open!"

he's already against the wall, adopting our previous strategy, leaning beside the door and sticking to it.

Ready to ambush.

Seeing this, I turn and start running toward the right side to ready myself, talking to belrow at the same time. I feel like I'm forgetting something.

"sure, just, we'll figure out something later. Just protect the girls for now, Jenna especially."

I may or may not figure out something for the badass grandpa. Don't really believe in him to be honest.

After those parting words, the strange sensation come back, I feel like I'm forgetting something, it's just at the tip of my tongue, I'm almost at the door, I'll think later.

...Didn't I said we're modifying the formation?

Why?

looking at the doors one last time, my eyes widen.

Wide. Really fucking wide.

Anyone near me would be able to see the way they dillate.

The doors.

Ah, shit.

"THE FUCKING DOORS"

My feet carry me back for a complete one eighty, turning around toward belrow and the girls.

Time to scream at the confused blonde head.

"GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE DOORS"

Not understanding he shake his head, hands on the hold of his sword frowning, he start advancing in a snail pace compared to how he should move right now, just enough walking to hear my shouting over the sounds of the door, he shout back.

"WHY?" Not hesitating I shout again "THE DOORS OPEN ON THIS SI-!" I don't even have the time to finish my sentence as malfoy start running toward us.

Realization and fear showing on his face, not even a second later the door open toward our side with such violence that the wall of the room we're in tremble.

The room shake.

It barely graze Matthew shoulders but it still send him fly away to the left like a comet, straight beside the hearth, passing above the couch, I can hear the sound of crashing and metal clinging against the ground.

It looked like he weighted nothing.

but my attention get stolen by a system message.

[Prepare for the first step of the tutorial! Kill all the ennemies in the room, or escape to the next room!]

The second the message flash to my periphery, three small green humanoids, disgusting piece of biology, small like childrens, enter.

All showing off their bumpy heads like falling on their heads when they were nothing but newborns is something to be proud of.

They are pretty disgusting, their big noses are pointy and shifting. Smelling the fear in our bodies, trying to find the best possible prey to feast upon.

Their grubby sweaty hands cradle sharp piece of rocks.

Running like a kid that consumed way too many tons of sugar. The middle one, go straight forward, rushing in the middle toward me.

The left and right ones smell the air instead, turning, and guided by their instincts. They stumble and fight against each other to reach the left side of the room as fast as possible.

The side where the groaning Matthew is slowly recuperating from his one on one against the doors.

Just behind them, their family follow them.

One more, two more, more than two behind.

I can't count more I have a grubby green monster running toward me. The repeating sounds of his quick feet slamming toward the ground like a drum approach me with ridiculous speed, especially considering his small legs.

Not thinking too much about how to hold my spear, or how not too, I just follow my gut, and it tell me to thrust at this monster.

Raising the spear in front of me like it's a protection, I stare at the goblin, it stare back at me for some reason.

His eyes, black and beady meet mines for one second as he run.

Two seconds, as he slow down he keep staring at me, straight at me. Not at the big pointy deadly stick in his direction, just at me, he blink, his eyes widen, as if seeing me for the first time.

Sweat build against his brow as he visibly clench his teeth in a strange mix of determination and...fear?

Using my confusion as his advantage the goblin rush under my spear, panicking, I lift it up and wave it around trying to get the grubby little shit as far away from close range as possible.

He doesn't protest hard against the unability to close our ranges. Instead he tank a big hit of the wooden shaft against his ribs.

Sharply inhaling a breath, he push through, using the momentum he gathered to rush toward m....away from me, to my right, just far enough not to reach the tip of my spear.

He pass me, his eyes showing too much.

Way too much, but the clearest emotion I can see is how unwilling he is to fight me.

Instead he focus his gaze on the girls.

Jenna struggle to shoot an arrow that just fall down at her feet the second she try to release it. And Annie with two hands on the hilt of her daggers, shake. Not accustomed to the heat of battles.

Talk about winging it.

Fear leave his eyes as he pass me and rush toward the girls like a mad beast.

What just happened?

Looking in front of me reveal three more goblin entering the room.

Two catch my gaze and again, fear. Then determination, easily seeable in their human like face.

They start approaching me, the two together, staying close, strength in numbers.

The one in the middle suddenly grab the one on the left. The new one on the left. The one that was going to rejoin his two friends that are themselves rushing toward the spot Matthew has been thrown at.

The right one wave in my direction with wary eyes, the left one look at me, again, wide eyes, fear, then determination, they start closing up on me, together, warily.

What the fuck is happening?
