Sallie's POV

I thrashed like a caged animal, desperate to break free and get back on my feet. But those two gorillas held me down like I weighed nothing, crushing the breath from my chest.

Kane strutted over, smugness oozing from every pore. "Figured your bones were steel. Guess even you know when to bend."

He towered over me, chin raised like some conquering king. "Stubborn little thing, but your sorry's worthless now. Bow to Jill and me. Promise you'll never mess with us again."

I stayed silent, jaw locked tight, face drained of color. My eyes burned into Kane—the same look I'd given those backstabbing "classmates" who'd trampled over me to kiss up to teachers.

That stare hit Kane like a punch. I could see it in his face—he was remembering the Astoria Hotel, when I'd gone completely feral on him. Fury flashed across his features before his hand cracked against my cheek.

"What's with that look?" he snarled. "I've given you shot after shot. Stop being such an ungrateful bitch."
